Chapter #10: Interruptions

*~*~*The Ishtar's Room--Reader's POV*~*~*

"Sister, what do you mean? How are Bakura and I a part in all this?!" Marik asked, taken back by his sister's knowledge. [How can I be the evil she is sensing? I no longer have the Rod in my possession......]

"And you mocked Pegasus......" Ishizu spoke, shaking her head. "Do YOU not remember the power of YOUR Item--or shall I say the spirit within it?"

[What?! No! It can't be! After the Battle City Finals, Yugi banished the evil in my soul and in the Rod to the Shadows! How can this be?!] Marik's mind scrambled for answers, but came up with nothing. "How?! TELL ME!"

"I am not sure."

Marik grabbed her by the shoulders and narrowed his eyes. "How can we stop it?"

Ishizu, looking up solemnly, said, "Before it starts whatever it has planned."

Letting go of his sister, Marik stormed towards the door. "Marik, where are you going?!" Ishizu called from the bed, starting to stand.

"I'm going to find it. It will never take control of me again, nor will it take what rightfully belongs to the Pharaoh's tomb.....including his Items."

Just as Marik was about to turn the knob, Ishizu reached out her hand to him. "Wait! How do you know where to find him?!"

Shaking his head, the younger Ishtar repeated the familiar phrase. "I'm not sure." He quickly exited, slamming the door behind him, leaving Ishizu alone.

[My dear brother....] She thought. [That evil once lived in you, from the days of when you were first 'initiated' into the Tomb Keepers.....that pent up anger fuelled your desire to harm the person you were sworn to protect-- the Pharaoh himself--because you believed that it was his fault for your painful memories......I pray to the Gods that your evil side will stay away from you.....please, my brother, do not revert to your evil ways once again. Fight it. Fight the one that makes you do your evil deeds. We must protect the Pharaoh at all costs....Please, my brother, don't be trapped again.......]

*~*~*In the Hotel--Elaya's POV*~*~*

I bet any money that Joey and Tristan are watching the hockey game. I also bet that Joey has MADE a bet on this game.....knowing him, he'll lose. The Lightning are getting their assess kicked tonight! Ha!

Téa's been fast asleep for the last half hour. It's almost 10:00 pm....but, hey, it's been a long ride.....

Shutting off the television, I scoot over to the washroom and take a shower. Careful not to make too much noise, I did not bother to dry my hair with the hair dryer--just used the towel....

Getting my pyjamas--a Beatles T-Shirt and a pair of black pyjamas bottoms-- I crawl into bed. Man, that pillow and my aspirin work wonders for my migraine......ah...

A slight rasping on the door jumbled my thoughts. "Elaya?"

Getting up, I walk over and open the door to see Mokuba--in his blue and green pyjamas. "Hey, what's up?" I whisper.

"Why are you whispering?" Mokuba asks

"Just 'cause Téa's sleeping..." I smirk when Mokuba's face gets all apologetic for talking loud and knocking on the door. "What can I do you for?"

"Well, Seto is busy.....Wanna keep me company?"

Even though that pillow and bed look so inviting...I can't say no to Mokuba...."Keh, sure." Walking to the room beside mine, I get lead into his room to see that the two Kaiba brothers have already unpacked and everything.

And that someone was in the shower. And THIS time, I am NOT going in there.

*~*~*In the Puzzle--Reader's POV*~*~*

Laughing manically, Yami Bakura leaned up against one of the stone walls to support himself.

"What's so funny?!" Yami Marik asked, scowling at him. [If he doesn't stop the Pharaoh will find us for sure!] They had just past him in the corridor by using some of the Shadow Realm magic.

Smirking, the white haired spirit looked at his 'partner' "I've successfully taken over my hikari's [1] body. Now with me in the outside world, I can make Yugi and the other fools to fall right where I want them."

"What makes you so sure?"

"You see, now that I inhabit and control Bakura's body, I now have a connection to the outside world--where the ritual will be taking place. And once I am in the sacred Pharaoh's Tomb, the remaining Items will be at my disposal.....of course, the Rod will be yours once again." Yami Bakura explained.

"I'm glad that you haven't given up on your promise."

Facial expressions changing from happy to mad, Yami Bakura narrowed his eyes. "Shut up."

"It appears that you have grown soft." Yami Marik chuckled.

"THAT'S ENOUGH!" Pulling Yami Marik by his cape, Yami Bakura brought him within inches of his face. "You forget that I am the one who has the Ring and Eye in my hand...and also a human body. YOU are nothing." Letting go of Yami Marik's cape, Yami Bakura pushed him away from him.

Yami Marik stumbled backwards, but didn't fall. "What the fuck are you smiling at?!"

The spirit of the Ring was indeed wearing a smile. "You ARE nothing."

Gritting his teeth, Yami Marik stood in anger.

"You are nothing more than a loose piece of Marik's hatred towards the Pharaoh. The rest of you lies within the Shadows."

"Thank you for the update." Yami Marik mumbled, already aware of his state.

"What a predicament. Here I am, your enemy, someone you cannot stand to be around, and there you are, nothing but the remains of the hate towards the Pharaoh." Yami Bakura smiled further.

"That's not a predicament, you idiot."

"You better watch what you say, partner" Yami Bakura hissed, spitting out that last word as if it was poison. "The predicament is that even though you do not trust me nor do you want to be a team, I can help you....."

"Really?" Yami Marik's eyebrow rose. [I cannot trust this thief.....]

"What a simple mind you have.....Don't you remember? I have two Items.....And I am most certain that that is enough power to......bring you back from the Shadows....."

[WHAT?! This fool could have helped me from the beginning!!] "You.....Why didn't you tell me this sooner?! I could have taken over Marik's feeble mind by now!" Yami Marik shouted voice thick with anger.

"You were getting on my nerves." The simple reply from Yami Bakura only heightened Yami Marik's anger.

Something struck the lesser spirit. [Wait.....he wants something in return.....He's not that stupid to grant me the power of a full spirit......What is he planning?]

"Ah, correct you are, Yami Marik." Yami Bakura said, reading his thoughts from the help of the Eye. [Pegasus' Item, even though it is with my human body, still affects me here.....Interesting.......] "Now, what do I want?.....Hmm.....Let me think....."

"Just. Tell. Me!" Yami Marik shouted, pausing between each word to show his impatience with the incompetent white haired spirit.

"I think the real question is, 'do you want your full spirit back?' Or, more importantly, 'will you keep your word?' Hmmm....Interesting." Yami Bakura thought aloud. "What to do? How will I be able to trust you? After all, you double-crossed me back in Battle City AND used your own tricks against me in here......Hmmmm...." He began to idly walk around the distressed spirit of the Rod in circles.

Grabbing him out of step, Yami Marik pulled Yami Bakura towards him by the collar of his shirt. "Look! The faster I get my body back, the faster I'm able to help you!"

"But, will you help me?" Yami Bakura asked, looking up, totally unfazed by the other spirit's actions.

Gritting his teeth until they could break--if they were real--Yami Marik hissed back at the spirit of the Ring. "As much as I hate to admit it, Yami Bakura, you are my only hope out of the Shadows and back into the real world. So, in your best interest, I'd advise you to bring my full spirit back from the damnation that the Pharaoh has placed it in!"

"Now, now, Yami Marik." Yami Bakura said calmly. "Remember, if you go refuse to help me, I can send you back to the same place you came from. Understood? Release me."

Letting go of the spirit slowly, Yami Marik growled at him. [He has complete control over me. That bastard.....]

"Watch what you think." Yami Bakura hissed.

"Whatever. Give me my spirit back!"

Smirking, Yami Bakura's Items--the Ring and the Eye--began to glow as he summoned more Shadow powers. "I have your word in carrying out the plan MY way in order to destroy the Pharaoh, correct?"

Already, Yami Marik could feel his spirit growing stronger. But he still hadn't given Yami Bakura the answer he needed--or wanted--to hear. Growing impatient, Yami Bakura shouted louder, "Do I have your word?!"

Frowing, Yami Marik answered--against his will--"Yes."

In a blaze of blackish purple smoke, Yami Marik's full spirit was released from the Shadows and placed in the Puzzle to where the fragments remained. Grunting, Yami Marik relished the feel of his new power.

"Well now, are we ready to get to work?" Yami Bakura asked. [As soon as this bastard shows one sign of resistant, it's back to the Shadows for good....and this time, I won't summon him again.......]

Keeping the same frown, Yami Marik followed Yami Bakura down another corridor, opposite to which the Pharaoh was currently in.

[What was that?!] Atem thought wildly as a massive cloud of dark energy was felt behind him. Remembering the days of Battle City with the duels against Marik, he identified the feeling instantly. "The Shadow Realm."

But this 'smoke' was not the same as when they played the Shadow Duels.....it was different. [What is this? What did it hold?] Atem's mind was scrambling for answers, but only another question came to him when he felt that the 'smoke' was somewhat depleted of something important. [What has escaped?]

*~*~*In the Hotel--Elaya's POV*~*~*

"And then, the evil purple dragon laughed at the knight." I recited from a fairy tale that I just made up now. Changing my voice to suit one of a dragon, I continued. "'You fool!' it said 'You cannot win!' But the knight was confidence that he would save the princess from his evil claws."

Mokuba, under the covers, asked. "Then what happend?!"

Grabbing my glass of water to take a sip, I realize that there was nothing left in it. "Gah. We're out of water, Mokuba." I have successfully drunk .5 litres of water in the past couple of minutes.....What am I? A camel? Jeeze. I'm drinking all this water but my throat stills kills, my head is spinning and my eyes are still watery!

"Okay, lemme go down to the front desk and ask for one." Mokuba was practically out the door before I could manage to say, "Hold on! Someone needs to go with you!"

"Nah, don't worry about it. Joey and Tristan will be down there."

"How do you know that?" I asked, eyebrows raised.

Giggling, Mokuba opened the door and ran out. Knowing those two, the lady at the front desk must be 'a major babe'....Gimme a break! Laying down on the bed again, I smile. Finally, that stupid dizzy feeling is gone......Man, these beds are just as comfy as mine! Shutting my eyes, I waited until Mokuba returned.

*~*~*Reader's POV*~*~*

Opening the door from the washroom, Kaiba nearly had a heart attack. [What the--?! Oh, it's just E.] Surprised to see her in his bed, he shook off his feeling of fear and sat down. He nudged her. "E? Where's Mokuba?"

[Who the heck is waking me up?!] Elaya's subconcious thought. Opening a heavy eyelid, a blur of blue and brown colours were in her line of sight. "Water." She said, as she heard the question it had asked. [Now shut up....and....let...me....sleep..........] Her mind drifted farther and farther away from the unfocused colours from seconds earlier

Kaiba sat up and walked over to his neat pile of clothes. Finding his pyjamas--which were a black T-Shirt and a pair of pants--he went to go get changed. But he didn't make it to the privacy of the washroom. Elaya stirred in her sleep as she began to cough violently.

Dropping his clothes on the foot of the bed, he rushed over to her. "You okay?" But he got no answer as she continued to cough. [If she keeps doing this, she won't take a breath....What the heck is wrong with her?]

Elaya had already turned over on her side--facing Kaiba--and her legs were currently curled up in the fetal position. "Elaya? Elaya!" Kaiba cried, looking down at her. But she would not stop coughing.

[Water.....] He remembered that Mokuba was off to fetch some, so he headed to the sink in the washroom, grabbing her glass from the table. Coming back to Elaya, who had finally stopped that violent coughing and was now gasping to take in a breath, he sat down next to her and held her sleeping form up. [She shaking.....] Kaiba thought. Bringing his hand up to place it on her forehead, he realized that she was hot to the touch. [Fever.....I hope this hotel has some kind of emergency room....]

**************************************************************************** ********************

"Hey! Guys!" Mokuba shouted, coming towards the front desk. [Ha! I knew they'd be here! Joey and Tristan can never pass on a girl until they're shot down!]

The two older teens, who were currently talking to the lady, were startled when that peppy little voice came. Joey, who was trying to keep his cool to impress 'Rina', looked over. "Hey Mokuba!"

"May I help you sir?" Rina asked, leaning over the desk a bit so she could at least see the boy's face.

"Can I have another bottle of water?" Mokuba asked politely.

"Of course." She left the desk for a brief moment to get some more in the back, and returned with a bottle. "Here you are sir." She handed Mokuba the bottle. "Have a nice day."

Tristan was baffled. "Hey! I thought you didn't speak English!"

Rina smiled at him, but didn't answer as she returned to her paperwork.

"Well, that went smoothly." Joey began to say, as the three of them walk back to the elevator. "At first we think she doesn't understand us; and that that was the reason she wasn't going along with our pick-ups......And THEN we find out she does! If she didn't like us, why didn't she just say it?!"

"Beats me..." Tristan mumbled. [Wait! Wasn't the whole point of coming down here was to get water too?] "Dude, we forgot the water!"

Staring at him, Joey replied, "Keh, you go get it. The chick doesn't like men like me."

"And what type of man would that be?" Tristan asked, already turning around to go back. [Probably the type of man that is the direct descendant of the monkey] He snickered to himself before saying, "Just leave the door open for me, 'kay?"

"Sure thing." Joey called out as Tristan returned to the desk. "Come on Mokuba, I'll take ya upstairs."

Taking the elevator again, the two boys arrived at their floor in a few seconds. "Which one's yours?" Joey asked.

"This one..." Mokuba pointed at the door and took out the key to open it. "You know Joey," Mokuba began to say, looking up at Joey, "Yugi says that this trip is for him and his 'past-life'--whatever that is--and he needs important people here.....I'm here because my brother needs to be here.....Why is he here and why are you?"

[Hmm, good question....] Joey thought. "I guess that--" He's sentence didn't make it out of his mouth as he saw Kaiba and Elaya cuddled together. [What the--? Kaiba's wearing a robe.........Elaya's hair is wet........His clothes are on the floor.......She's in her pyjamas--OH MY GOD!] His conclusion from the sight in front of him, made him put a hand over Mokuba's eyes.

"Hey! Joey! I can't see!"

Kaiba looked up to see Joey and his brother at the door. "Wheeler, what are you--?!"

"Sorry to interrupt! I'll leave ya two alone!" Grinning like an idiot, Joey pulled Mokuba away from the door, with his hands still over his eyes, and shut it.

Kaiba was about to jump off the bed and kill Joey in the hall where there were no witnesses. But a light weight on his chest told him to stay. [Stupid mutt....] He thought. Elaya had finally quieted down, but her fever was still present. Placing her on the bed--and tucking her in--he quickly changed out of his bath-robe and into his pyjamas. [Thank God these beds are double beds....]

He got in the bed and did not stay too close but not too far from her. [If she starts going into a coughing fit again, I'm calling a paramedic--if there are any here.....]. The little lights on the digital clock told him that it was half past ten. Kaiba's eyes then shut as he fell asleep...

Hope you enjoyed that!

[1] 'hikari' is Japanese for 'light'.....I've read it in several fanfics so I thought I'd give it a spin! If I've spelt it wrong, don't sue, do tell!

Yup....ah....Another chappie down. BTW (By The Way) Tampa Bay Lightning are actually a very good team....them losing against Atlanta is one of those 'bad days' that some teams get......Yes! Playoffs are starting!
Also, BTW, that whole scene with Joey walking in was inspired by a
good pal of mine (pirate_gurl: hey!) Thanks for the tips!

Anyhow, mind all spelling and grammar mistakes....and don't forget to:
