Chapter 12: Masks

*~*~*Hotel Room--Elaya's POV*~*~*

"Téa?" I call from my bed. "Do you have the brush?"

From the washroom, a muffled, "No."

Shoot. We had to meet the guys in less than ten minutes downstairs to go 'shopping' and Téa has been hogging the washroom ever since we got here. Was she taking a shower?

The door opened seconds later to reveal a well groomed/dressed Téa. Plain, but a simple pink tank top with navy blue shorts and a pair of sandals that matched the colour of vanilla ice-cream....Speaking of which....

"Where's the brush?" She asked, rummaging through her bag.

"I was wondering the exact same thing!" I stood up and helped her look. I've done this three times already, but, hey, never hurts to check four times. And besides, four is my lucky number.

Flustered, Téa sighed. "Forget it, we'll just do what Joey does in the morning."

"And that would be....?" I smiled and stared.

"Run your hand through it."

Laughing, I quickly brushed my teeth and grabbed my trench coat. Not sure why, it's just a force of habit....I had on this black T-Shirt that had the slogan 'I have issues' in white. Corny, but seriously true! A pair of beige cotton pants completed, as some French guy would say, 'the ensemble'

"Ready to go?" Téa asked, pulling on a light white jacket.

"Yup. Guess so." Retrieving a pair of sunglasses from my luggage and a bottle of sun screen, I dropped them in her purse and opened the door.

But I also distinctly heard the hinges of a door closing too......

Turning, Téa and I see Joey and Tristan had just exited their room too. "Hey guys!" We both said.

"Hey. Do we meet Yugi's gramps downstairs or what?" Tristan asked, fidgeting with the wrinkles in his blue T-Shirt. He, like Joey, was wearing a pair of blue jean shorts. Joey, on the other hand was wearing a white shirt.

Nodding, all four of us walked towards the elevator.

"I don't get it..." Joey mumbled as we walked. "What the heck are we gonna buy in Egypt? SAND-whiches? Get it?" Laughing and nudging us in the ribs, the rest of us let out sighs, as we pushed the button to go down.

"Hey, where's Bakura?" Téa asked. His two roommates looked dumbfounded.

*~*~*In Yugi's Room--Yami Bakura's POV*~*~*

Too close....I thought those fools were still downstairs....Never mind that.....I have retrieved the memories from each of the Items. While the Pharaoh and the others went to eat, I seized the oppurtunity to sneak into his room and take what I need....Like a true thief would.....But it wasn't a walk in the park. The powers or the Spirits inside the Items would not give in so easily.

But they did. And I stole what I needed before any of Spirits could tell......

Smiling, I contact Yami Marik. The stupid fool is still trapped within the Puzzle. [[[ Yami Marik? ]]]

{{ About time. Have you acquired the memories to trap the Pharaoh and the Pharaoh's friends as well? }} He asked quickly.

[[[ Why of course. You obviously did not think that I would fail, did you? ]]] I mocked.

{{ Actually, I did. And if you don't mind, you better get moving or else you'll miss your ride to the Egyptian bazaar. }}

What the hell is he talking about? [[[ What do you mean Yami Marik? ]]]

{{ What I mean is that since I am still in the Puzzle, I can hear what the Pharaoh says aloud. And he just so happened to mention that they were waiting for the others to go out. I suggest you hurry up. }} He explained.

That bastard. If I knew about this earlier, I would of worked faster! Grunting, I open the door a crack to notice that those boneheads are gone. Good, half the battle is done.

Closing the door quietly, I walk smugly towards the elevator, press the button to go down and wait for my ride. Hmph. I need a plan that I can help me fool the others into thinking that I am their friend 'Bakura'........

Smirking as my cart arrived, I step in and do not bother holding the door to the man who says to. "You'll have to wait." I mutter, and smile as I see he face--all red and worn out from running across the hall to get the elevator that happened to close in front of him.

Using the power of my two Items, I cast the entire elevator into the Shadows--making it stationary. [[[ Bakura? My Light? I have a favour to ask of you...... ]]]

Walking into the dark abyss in which I placed him, I find him curled in a corner, shaking like the weakling he is. "Don't come near me!" He threatens, but I can hear, see and taste the fear in his words.

"What will you do? Call for your friends to help you?" I mock, smiling and walking closer. "Well, this is the place where no one can hear you scream. So fret all you want, no one but me will hear you. And I love to ignore the phrase of 'mercy'...."

Looking up at me with scared eyes, my light continues to shake. "What's wrong Bakura? You don't trust me? You thought that I was gone, didn't you?"

"I hate you." He answers, eyes narrowed.

"Now, now, now Bakura. Watch what you say.....What goes around comes around...." With that, I close the gap between us and pull him up by the collar. Quickly spinning him around, so his back faces me, I pull on one of his wrists; bringing it back behind his back in an upward motion.

"AH!" Bakura cries, as the pain comes.

"There is a LOT more where that came from." I smirk, highly confident. "Now, be the good little light you are and listen carefully.....I need you to do me a favour...." I whisper, leaning close to his ear.

"NO!" He tries to get free, but my strength is superior to his. I simply pull up on his wrist further and watch him try to escape. "I hope you know that if I keep doing this, you'll lose your entire arm..." I grin, waiting for him to stop resisting.

"Good. Now, I need your face." I explained.

"What?" He asked, shaking more now than ever.

"Your face.....F-A-C-E....I need you to put on a little disguise for me....."

"NO! I won't let you hurt my friends!" He shouts some more, but I simply roll my eyes and pull on his wrist even further. "AH!"

"The human skeleton.....Strong enough to keep you standing, but brittle enough to crack so easily.....so very easily...." With a sharp twist, I hear the satisfying *crack* as his wrist snaps from its joint. [1]

After he had finished with his screaming and sobbing, I ask him again. "Will you do this favour for me, Bakura?"

"NO!" His body was shaking with sobs. It made me want to vomit whatever I had left in my stomach....well, his stomach anyway.

"You can break all my bones, but I won't let you hurt my friends! LET ME GO!"

"Talk, talk, talk.....Will you ever just shut-up about all that friendship garbage...?" Still holding him with his back to me, I make my hand rigid and hit him on a special part on the back of his neck--not to hard to kill him, but hard enough to knock him unconscious.....I'll need him alive for now....Feeling him go limp, I push him to the ground.

"Oh yes. I forgot to mention that we could either do this the easy way, or the hard way.....Guess you can't choose now.....So, I'll pick the easy way...." Grabbing his light head from the ground, I use some more of the magic that two Items have given me to make a duplicate of his face and voice. Saying words in my own ancient language from my tribe, I chant and watch as the spell takes place.

Smiling as the chant worked, I remove the Shadows from the elevator and watch as the body of 'Bakura' fade again--as he is still locked inside the darkness. Waiting until my doors opened, I look at my reflection in the metal doors.

Perfect. No one can tell the difference......I'm just normal, innocent Bakura......Or seem like it anyway....

The doors open, finally, to reveal Yugi and the rest of those buffoons waiting at the front desk.

"There he is!" I hear one of them cry.

"Yo! Bakura! Finally!" Joey calls.

"Sorry about that! I woke up a little late!" Sickened by my new voice, I let my disgust slide as I run over to them.

They'll never suspect a thing.....

Until it's too late....

*~*~*In Egypt--Reader's POV*~*~*

[Hmmm....] Pegasus thought. [Where is Shadi? The Ishtars informed me that he would come for me....And I must say, I've been very patient....]

Pacing around his room, Pegasus waited anxiously for the Spirit. "Come on now Shadi....Do not keep false promises...."

Looking out the window, he remembered the things that Shadi told him when he first received the Eye.

"This Item can unlock the world between the living and the dead. It can also seek deep into the minds of others..." Shadi said, looking down on him.

[That Item gave me the power to read into others mind and almost made me beat Yugi and get my darling wife back....] Pegasus thought. [Unfortunately, that Item made me loose my left eye.....And since 'Bakura' took it, I have been wearing a patch to conceal my fate...]

Fingering the black strap that held his patch in place, he sighed. "Where is my Eye now? Does 'Bakura' still have it?" [Will I ever regain the sight that I have lost in my real eye, once the ritual has taken place?]

Noticing a bright light coming from the window, Pegasus knew instantly that Shadi was coming.

"Is it time yet Shadi?" He asked into the window.

"Not yet. But soon." Shadi's monotone voice echoed in Pegasus' head. But a feeling of worry etched his words.

"Is something the matter, Shadi?"

"I feel a disturbance......Something is taking the Items...." He explained.

"What do you mean? Have they collected them all?" Pegasus asked, knowing what would happen if and when all seven Items were in the same place....

"No. Not the Items themselves. But the things deep inside them...."

"I'm afraid that I don't understand...." Pegasus admitted, gaze fixed on the spirit in the window.

"Their thoughts and their most recent actions..." Shadi paused for a moment before continuing. "....and even the actions they do not know about...."

*~*~*Egypt's Bazaar--Reader's POV*~*~*

"Alright kids!" Solomon shouted as they all got off the bus. "Today, to relax, we'll take a stroll down the market place! This is a great place for souvenirs! Well, now, let's get rolling!"

Kaiba muttered something under his breath that no one caught. [Rich-boy thinks he's all that.....] Joey thought. [Thinks he's too good to go shopping!]

"Hey, Kaiba!" Joey taunted. "This is where your crappy 'attire' comes from! It's called a mall!"

"Get a life Wheeler." Walking ahead, with Mokuba by his side, he led the rest.

"What the hell was that all about?!" Elaya asked Joey, rolling her eyes.

"For fun."

"Oh God...." Not knowing if Joey's comment had anything to do with his previous jokes, she ran forward to catch up with the Kaiba brothers.

Coming up to the first line of shops, Professor Hopkins and Solomon looked over what looked like an artifact, while the girls headed for the clothing aisle.

"Hey, Téa! Look!!" Elaya shouts, holding a black leather skirt and a tube top of the same material. "All I need is some music and a dancing pole and I'd have my own show!" Laughing, she throws the outfit back on the pile, not interested. Joey however, was very amused.

"What's wrong with this? I never would of guessed that Kaiba was into this kinda stuff!!" Getting two fists, one from each of the girls, to the head, he shuts up as Tristan laughs.

"I KNEW Elaya would get you good!"

"Ah, shut up Tris." Joey mumbled, rubbing the sore spot on his head.

Yugi, however, was walking in another area of the shops--but he still heard Joey get punched in the head. Chuckling a bit, he turns to Bakura.

"Bakura, isn't this where you said your father got you the Ring?" He asked.

Yami Bakura quickly sorted through the memories of his fallen hikari [2] and answered quickly, "Yes. He found it in a shop in a similar market." [This fool does not know who he is dealing with!] The spirit thought, trying to control his anger. [The Pharaoh will not know what hit him! I can't wait to wipe that smile off his face.....]

Yugi was indeed smiling as he rounded another corner of the market. "Yug'! Bakura! Over here!" Tristan waved.

[Great....] Yami Bakura thought. [I've found the geek's friends too.....Just great....]

{{ Patience spirit of the Ring..... }} Yami Marik's voice boomed in his head. {{ It is better to have them all in one place, is it not? }}

Grunting in response, Yami Bakura choose not to answer. Instead, he seemed somewhat amused. [I am standing next to the Pharaoh, and not even He can see through my disguise.....]

{{ That's because I am distracting him inside here you fool. }} Yami Marik announced, proud of his 'accomplishment'

[[[ Then keep up the good work. ]]] Rolling his eyes, Yami Bakura smiled sweetly at his light's friends as they continued to goof off in the stores.

*~*~*Inside the Puzzle--Atem's POV*~*~*

"Over here, Pharaoh...." The same mocking voice called out to me, as I desperately tried to find it.

Turning a corner, I hear it again. "No, no...wrong way...."

"I demand you tell me where you are!" I shout at my invisible opponent.

"Right now, you are very cold."

I climb another set of stairs and take off into another darkened corridor. "Nope, you are still very cold Pharaoh..." it repeats.

"Tell me: who are you?!" I shout at it again.

"An old friend who is ready to take back what is rightfully mine, Pharaoh!" It says, increasing the volume in its voice as it continues. That phrase.....'take back what is rightfully mine'.....Marik! Or more accurately, his Yami.....

"Marik! Show yourself you coward!" I shout smirking as I finally knew who was stalking me in my mind.

"Now that wouldn't be fun." He echoes.

"Enough of your games! Show yourself!"

"You'll have to find me Pharaoh...." Yami Marik mocked.

"You spineless coward!" I yell "Once I find you, you'll regret ever coming in here! Do you hear me?!"

"Yes, I do. But am I really listening?" He laughs cruelly, and the sound of it continues to echo off the walls of my mind.

"Where are you?!" My angered voice even surprised me as I tried to pinpoint where the voice was coming from. "TELL ME YAMI MARIK!"

"By the time you find ME Pharaoh, it would be too late for you AND your pathetic friends."

"What do you have planned? What?!" I yell back at him, but hear nothing in return. After a few moments of silence, I realize something.

I have no idea as to where I am.

Or how to get back to the entrance of my mind chamber.

*~*

[1] I always thought Yami Bakura would be the sadistic type.....and yes, he did technically break his own wrist....but Shadow magic can do wonders on broken bones.

[2] Once again, for translation purposes, 'hikari' means 'light' in Japanese!

WOOWEE! And, this chappie is done, done, done.

To all readers and/or reviewers, thank you for selecting TMS III: Quest for the Items....and I excuse any errors grammatically/spelling wise....and I also excuse how totally gay this sounds...

ANYWAY, I'll have the next chappie ASAICM! (do I REALLY need to spell that out again?)
