Chapter #16: Way Back, Back in Time
*~*~*Reader's POV*~*~*
Rubbing his head, Pegasus awoke in the same darkness as the others. [Ouch...Where am I?] He thought. Slowly, he got up and decided to look around. [Hmm. Maybe the lights went out in the tomb....] A soft laugh escaped his lips and echoed in the vacant corridor.
"You who!" He called out, keeping his cheery voice intact--even though his gut was wrenching with worry. "Anybody home?"
[I guess I'll have to find them, won't I?] Pegasus thought. He moved down the corridor placing himself very close to a nearby wall. [Wouldn't want to bash into something....] Suddenly, a crashing of light appeared again. [Huh?!]
And he was in Egypt again. He was in one of the local marketplaces. [How did I...?]
*~*~*Atem's POV*~*~*
Finally, that boy has stopped running. But, this makes no sense, why did he stop in the middle of nowhere? From what I can hear, the next town or market is at least a few meters away. The boy crouches down in the sand.
I manage to stand right behind him; he is still unaware of my presence. His back is turned to me so I can't see what he is doing. I cough a bit to make him realize I am there, but he doesn't stir--to preoccupied to care. I cough again, louder.
And the boy turned to face me again. He knew I was there. He was looking right at me. But he didn't say a word. Taking the first move, I ask "What is your name?"
At the sound of my voice, he flinched. The boy cradled his stolen loaf of bread as if it were a baby. He did not answer me as he looked away from me and began to rock in his crouching position.
Keeping calm, I ask him again. "What is your name, son?"
The boy sighed loudly, before looking at me again. He turned and stood. "I....I'm sorry that I took it.....Please, don't bring me back there! Please!" His brown eye looked into mine fiercely. But I could tell he was actually sorry for doing it. He was being honest with me. He was sorry for taking the bread.....but what is his reason for doing so?
"Why did you do it?" I ask him, keeping a mental check to ask him for his name later.
"My family is hungry. We don't have any money for food anymore." He answers, clutching the bread closer to his chest.
"Anymore? What happened?"
"A mean man came into our village and asked for our money. When the man saw what little we had, he took everything--home and all." The boy explained, gaze dropping to the floor at the mention of his family's condition. "I need this bread....My family and village needs it...Don't bring me back there....."
Poor boy..... "Don't worry. I will not tell anyone." I reassure. The boy nodded and turned away again. "Where are you going now?"
"Home." He whispered, gripping the bread tightly. Looking around quickly and noticing that it was only me there with him, he pulled off his cloak that covered his face. Long, silvery-white hair fell down on his simple beige robe as his cloak came softly into his right hand.
Eyes wide, I instantly recognized this boy. But, it couldn't be him! Yami Bakura is much older and not this sincere. Remembering what I meant to ask him in the first place, I put a hand on the boy's shoulder, turning him to face me again.
"What is your name?"
"My.....My....name......Ryou [1]."
*~*~*Elaya's POV*~*~*
"Justi! Over here!" I cry out, waving my hands from my position half a mile away. I don't get it, she knows that I'm here, but she doesn't see me! Doesn't she realize that Dieen is standing right behind her? "Get out of the way!"
"Come little sister, let us go." Dieen mumbles; her voice carrying down the corridor. Wait....this must have been before Dieen went crazy.....Wait....how far back in the past am I?
It was odd though; how Justi reacted to it. Her body went with it, but her eyes remained locked on mine--as if she was not in control of what she was doing. The two siblings continue to walk down the hall and, of course, I follow them closely.
You know what else was odd? No one seemed to care that I was wearing my "I have issues" T-Shirt.....I was totally out of style. Talk about being the odd man out! The two that I was following walked into this beautiful garden; filled with flowers that I'd never seen before in my life! Butterflies and other little critters were everywhere....It totally took my breath away.
"Go Justika, get a bouquet for mother." Dieen said, releasing Justi's hand that I had no idea she was holding. Justi then headed off into the garden-- and once again, I followed her.....Dieen never seemed to notice I was there....If Justi can see me, why can't she?
"Justi! Hey! Justi!" I call to her as she picked up a long stemmed yellow flower. She looked right at me and said, "Mother is sick."
What the heck? "Justi, what are we doing in here?" I ask her.
"Mother is sick and flowers will make her feel better." She continues to say in a child-like voice. It's then I realize how young she is. Holy shit.....What time era am I in? "Dieen said flowers will make Mother feel better. Yellow is her favourite colour, so it will make her feel best!"
She plucked another yellow flower from the soil and placed it in a small basket. Frustrated, I pulled her by the shoulders. "Justi! Get a hold of yourself! We have to find a way out of this time machine!" Something is seriously going on! First I'm in Egypt, then in the dark, and then BACK in Egypt in a different time! Those two freaks with the Rod and the Ring are up to this. But what do they want? What do they 'hope' to accomplish with all of this?
"If Mother does not get her flowers, she won't feel better. How many should I get?" She put another one in her basket. Well, that was three of them. Rolling my eyes, I decide to follow along. "Five. Get her five flowers."
She picked up two more of the yellow ones and put them in her basket. So she CAN hear me! Man, she must be no more than five years old! She's only as tall as my waist!
\\ Elaya! \\
// Justi! What the heck is going on with you and your 'flowers'? // I said into my mind-link. It's about time she used this thing!
\\ My child, this is nothing more than a memory that was locked in my mind that the spirit of the Ring took out! \\ She informed.
// What? //
\\ The spirit of the Ring took out all possible memories from all the Items and placed them inside the Puzzle! Now that all of us are inside here, we will all get lost and there will be no doubt that they won't use that to their advantage! \\ Justi continued to say.
// I'm--along with everyone else in the Tomb--are in the Puzzle? How the heck does that work? // I ask.
\\ I do not know....must be a form of Shadow magic....Now, Elaya, I am inside my younger self's mind--unable to do anything but watch what I did over 3000 years ago. I have no control over what I do. \\
// So that's why you didn't answer me the first time I called you! // I understood! Finally something sinks in! My Justi is actually inside there, but she can't get out!
\\ Yes....I'm not sure if my condition is the same for everyone else....You need to find-- \\ She was cut off as her sister called to her. "Justika! Come now! We need to get going!"
A pair of reluctant green eyes looked at me, as her body skipped away. \\ Be careful! We'll meet again! \\ It all faded out after that.
// Justi.... // I mumble into our mind-link as the only connection for some of my answers were cut short. Everything starts to get dark again. Oh no. Am I switching memories? Where is Justi going? Who will I meet next?
Where will I end up?
*~*~*Reader's POV*~*~*
"Wait a minute Tris," Joey began to say, "That can't be Elaya.....That girl is younger than she is!"
"Who else can it be?" Tristan asked, looking at the girl that was so familiar to them. "It has to be her!" [Green eyes, orange hair.....extremely pissed look on her face....It has to be Elaya!]
Joey looked around the classroom as more kids came in. [I don't recognize ANY of these other kids....If that IS Elaya, this must be from the years before she came to Domino City Public High School....] Looking at the windows near the back of the class, he noticed a red and white flag with a red leaf in the middle swaying in the wind outside. [If my geography's correct, that's the Canadian flag.....Didn't Elaya say she went to school in Ontario before coming to Domino City?] "Uh, Tris, I think we're in Canada..."
"Who cares WHERE we are, we need to know how to get back to where we were!"
"Class, class, settle down..." A teacher, with blonde hair and brown eyes, said as she entered the room. Since no one noticed they were there, Joey and Tristan made their way to the back of the room, sitting in two empty chairs a couple of seats away from 'Elaya'.
"Who's the broad?" Joey asked.
"I'm not sure...Maybe if we put our heads together, we'll figure it out." Tristan mumbled sarcastically. "Hmmm, who works in the school and TEACHES children?"
"A teacher--Hey! Shut up!" Joey pushed Tristan off his chair and was surprised that no one turned around to see where the loud banging noise came from. "Dude, why can't anyone hear us?"
Tristan looked around nervously. "I dunno...." [If we're seeing Elaya's past.....? What the heck is going on?!]
"Now, today, we'll be having two more people present their CPT [2] presentations. Then, we'll continue our work on our Shakespeare play: Hamlet." A few groans and mumbles of profanity were heard amongst the room; including ones from Joey and Tristan. [Great.] Joey thought. [We're going through an English lesson at Elaya's old school...what a memory...]
"Okay, today's presentations will be done by Ms. Miranda Williams [3] and Ms. Elaya White. Miranda, care to start things off?" The teacher sat down as the girl known as Miranda Williams stood up and walked to the front of the class with a poster in hand.
"Did she say, Elaya White?" Tristan asked Joey.
"Get your ears checked man! Of course she said that!"
"Alright....Once this 'Miranda' character is finished, we'll know if that orange-haired girl is really Elaya at a younger age." Tristan planned.
"Then what?" Joey asked. [So what if we know who's who. What'll that accomplish? It still doesn't tell us where exactly we are.]
"Uh.....Then we'll know that we're seeing an old memory of Elaya." Tristan concluded. He sighed soon after. "But it won't tell us anything of how or why we're seeing this..."
"Let's ask Ms. White ourselves." Joey grinned. [Hey, maybe SHE can hear us....]
"My CPT book was 'The Joy Luck Club' by Amy Tan....A brief synopsis...." Miranda seemed to drag on and on about her book--in a non-attention holding way--and by the end of it, most of the class, including Elaya, Tristan and Joey, were half-asleep in their chairs.
"Very well done Miranda." The teacher complimented as she scribbled things in her book. "You may take your seat."
By this time, Joey had woken up and was watching the girl take her seat. He saw a grin appear on her face as she passed Elaya's seat. His friend's leg was extended out and Miranda noticed it as well. [What is this chick planning? That grin on her face is tellin' me she's gonna get E in trouble!] Being the trouble maker he was, he could pick these things up; it was his second nature.
Miranda walked over the foot of the semi-aware Elaya and tripped herself. "OW!"
Everyone woke up after that. Eyes alert, the entire class--including Joey and Tristan--looked over to the fallen Miranda and the confused Elaya.
"Ms. White!" The teacher cried angrily.
"Huh?"
"Miranda, are you alright?" The teacher walked over to the fallen teen. She helped her up and frowned at Elaya.
"What?" Elaya asked, full of attitude.
"You did it on purpose!" Miranda accused. Joey stood up in his chair and shouted, "You're a liar! That was a self-fall!" Of course, no one but Tristan heard his conclusion.
"What are we, in preschool?" Elaya asked.
"Ms. White, I'll speak to you after class." The teacher scolded.
"For what? I don't get what happened!" Elaya threw her hands up in the air. "Someone please tell me!"
"You tripped Miranda!" A few more voices in the back shouted. Joey was shouting too; about what a dirty, rotten liar Miranda was.
"Ms. White, you'll have to pay for your actions, understood? After class." The teacher repeated.
"But you didn't hear my side of the--!" Elaya began to protest.
"Ms. White, just do your presentation and we'll talk after class."
"Fine. Fine!" Elaya jumped up, grabbed her cue-cards and stormed to the front of the class.
"That's unbelievable!" Joey shouted from his position in the back of the class. "Miranda just got Elaya a detention for something she didn't do!"
Tristan, who was also aware from Miranda's fake fall, nodded. "Why didn't the teach just give her a warning?"
Joey snorted. "Knowing Elaya, she probably picks fights with those guys. You know, a bad reputation..." Both boys watched Miranda 'limp' to her desk, but smile and high-five her friends when she sat down.....[Too bad the teacher can't see her now...] Joey glared at Miranda.
"My CPT was Animal Farm. Basically about corruption at a farm with real idiotic animals who can't fend for themselves. Lemme use this school as an example. Many people in this school all believe in the brown nosers--"
"--Ms. White!" The teacher began to say. [Oh man, this isn't going in a good direction!] Tristan thought as he gulped, watching Elaya tell off her teacher.
"No interruptions please." Elaya said, smiling sweetly. "As I was saying, everyone believes in the selected few in this school; never asking why they do something or check up on if what they're saying is true. These people are totally trusted....No one EVER blames them....this--"
By then, the teacher was fuming. "--This is totally unacceptable--"
"--can be seen, in the novel, as the rest of the farm animals totally trust the pigs--never questioning their doings or actions. Shall we go into specifics?" Elaya was grinning mischievously at the teacher; both Joey and Tristan knew which example she was going to use.
"Ms. White! That is enough! You have no right to stand up that and criticize--"
Elaya's face then was surprising. She was a mix of angry, fed-up and any other adjective to describe really, really mad. "You know what?! You can just piss off you bitch!"
Her sudden outburst left everyone open-mouthed. "I have no right? I HAVE NO RIGHT?! What I say is true and everyone here knows it! You only listen to your 'favourite students' and don't give a flying fuck about anyone else's stories! You just take their word for it and never let the other person explain! This whole school is corrupted! You can't stand there and tell me that what I said was a lie! You're nothing more than a hypocritical bitch who--"
"--GO TO THE OFFICE NOW!" The teacher shouted. Joey's and Tristan's eyes were out of their sockets. [If we did that at OUR school, we'd be killed!] Joey thought. He gulped as a staring contest began between the two fuming women.
Elaya walked over to her desk, grabbed her black trench-coat, her backpack and her books and slammed the door shut on her way out.
"Whoa." Tristan gasped. "I've never seen Elaya so angry!"
"She must be really pissed off.....This thing--with the teach being nice to her favourite students--must of happened a few times beforehand..." Joey reasoned. Just then, the bell rang. [Must be lunchtime or something....] Joey thought. Both boys followed the students out the door; they were looking for Elaya.....and so were Miranda and her friends.
*~*~*Pharaoh's Palace--Reader's POV*~*~*
"Yugi, where are we?" Téa asked, looking around. [I could have sworn that we passed this hallway earlier.]
Not wanting to admit that they were lost, Yugi didn't answer her and instead continued to walk straight ahead. [Maybe we'll get lucky and find Atem....]
As the two walked forward down another familiar path, they began to hear voices. "What was that?" Téa asked with a gasp. [I hope they aren't those guards I've seen in the movies!]
"Shh!" Yugi put a finger to his lips to say 'Be quiet!' He pulled her to the wall and waited for some more sounds.
"My Pharaoh, you must reconsider!" A voice pleaded. [Reconsider what?] Yugi thought.
"I am afraid I cannot, Isis." Atem's voice rang in their ears. Yugi's eyes widened at the realization. [That's Atem! But who is 'Isis'?]
"It is too dangerous! Think of your people!" The woman named Isis said, begging.
"If I do not take action, it would be even more devastating." Atem reasoned. Both of their footsteps were getting louder. [Oh no! What if Yugi and I are found?!] Téa's mind was racked with worry.
"Isis, if you can see into our future, what do you see?" Atem asked, his movements stopping.
[Future? Is 'Isis' Ishizu?!] Yugi thought. A long pause in the conversation was present. A loud gasp was heard and a thud.
"Isis, what is it?!"
"Everything was dark and desolate, my Pharaoh....no one was left! And in your palace walls was where you and your cousin were dueling. Priest Seth had summoned his most powerful dragon....and you, your most faithful magician...." Isis explained. "That is all that my power would allow me to see..." A sigh was heard as Isis fainted from her use of her powers.
"Isis...." Atem mumbled, as he shifted his feet and carried her somewhere. Soon his footsteps were no longer heard.
"What was that all about?" Téa asked.
"This thing must take place when Atem and Kaib--I mean Seth--dueled!" Yugi declared softly, as he remembered the stories Ishizu had told him at Battle City.
"Come on Yugi, we have to move!" Téa said, grabbing his arm. "We have to catch up with Atem to see what happens!" [This is the most important duel in the world! We can't miss it.....It has to answer some more questions.....] She thought as she ran towards the shadow of Atem.
[It has to answer them.....]

[1] Ryou is the name other people use to call Bakura (the good one) in their fanfics! The way I see it, Yami Bakura didn't become 'Yami' (or dark) until the Pharaoh did something very bad to him (can't tell you yet!).....so, technically, when he was younger, Yami Bakura was still nice!
PS. On this note, many other people will have names different to their names in the present. (Ishizu=Isis) Don't worry, I'll clarify them when the time comes.
[2] A CPT is a HUGE project usually given to English classes in high school. It stands for 'something Performance Task' (forgot what the 'C' was) It was once called 'Independent Study Project' or ISP...
[3] Made up name!
Phew! Finally! Done....sorry for the long wait...fanfiction.net wasn't working....
That AND the fact that my mom wants to kill me because I 'supposedly' lost something I didn't know was lost! ANYWAY, I hope you all are enjoying what my mind is thinking for the memories! If you have any more ideas, leave 'em in the review.....Anyone have any Téa or Tristan memories? I'm kinda stuck with those two....

PLEASE REVIEW!
