Chapter #21: Truth, Love and Poison
----The Dueling Arena—Yugi's POV----
"Now, Buster Blader!" Atem shouts loudly as his powerful monster drew his sword. "Attack all THREE Blue Eyes White Dragons!"
The sword came down with a loud 'swoosh' sound as me and Téa were left eyes opened. Even though this was pretty much the same thing we saw at Battle City, it was just weird to see it again........kinda like those freaky déja- vues that you get. Well, I don't know, it was probably just me.
"NO!" Priest Seth cries as his three Blue Eyes vaporized along with his life points.
"Priest Seth, this duel is over! Now, remove yourself, your goons, and your trickery from my kingdom." Atemu cries, eyes narrowed.
Seth was broken, but managed to keep his cool. "And if I don't?" He asks bitterly.
"Then I'll dispose of you myself."
"You don't have the guts to do it, Atemu." Seth smirked. "You would never draw the blood of your cousin. You're too soft for that."
"SILENCE! Do not talk to me like that!" The Millennium Eye glowed on his forehead as Seth insulted him.
"Why don't you get your army to fight it for you, hmm? Like your wife for example."
Atemu stopped breathing for a moment. "You keep her out of this."
"You are not a ruthless king, Pharaoh....why?"
"I do not believe in your ways, Seth. Everyone is deserving of respect, no matter how little they appear in stature." Atemu explained. Priest Seth huffed and straightened up.
"Such a pity that your reign is over, my Pharaoh." Priest Seth said that last part mockingly.
Now, it was Atemu's turn to get all eyes-wide. "How?! I defeated you!"
"Look around you! The destruction of our duel destroyed everything!" Priest Seth cried. "The scriptures write that the powers of the God Cards will leave the loser dead and the winner wishing he was......Our God Cards were matched! Nothing stands anymore, Atemu.......and it's all because of you."
"Don't listen to him, Atemu!" Téa cries. "He's just being mean!"
"Yeah! He's lying! It's his fault! He started it!" I shout, getting involved. Hey, it may be first-grade, but it's true!
Unfortunately, Atemu looks around him to see total and utter destruction. I was too caught up in the duel to even bother to look around! The town he ruled was covered in a dark fog.......people were screaming.......fires were going strong.......
"No....." He says softly, filled with grief.
Priest Seth, on the other hand, laughs. "Some kind-hearted Pharaoh YOU are!"
Atemu's head snaps back. "Silence!" Instead, Priest Seth continues to laugh. "The power of our God cards colliding is enough to destroy the world you fool!" He shouts.
"Oh no! Yugi, do you think he's bluffing?" Téa turns to me, worried as hell.
"I hope so--AH!" Suddenly, the ground begins to shake, lightning begins to crash and the fires get out of control! "Téa! Hold on!" I grab her hand with one of mine and put the other on the balcony.
"Priest Seth!" Atemu cries over the noise "What did you do?!"
He stops laughing for a moment. "Our Egyptian God Cards caused this, Pharaoh. Your kingdom is gone! You are nothing!"
The crash of the Gods must have triggered something that would go off when the duel was finished! Is this what lead to the sealing of the Seven Millennium Items?
"YUGI!" Téa screams as the stone balcony we stand on gives way.
"NO! TÉA!" I tighten my grip on her wrist and shut my eyes.
It's only a memory, right? I can't be hurt, right?
Right?
-----Tristan's POV-----
I don't know how much more I can take of this. This 'Mr. John Matthews' is SO trying to pick Téa up!
"Now, I think that I can score you a performance." He says.
I can feel Téa's heart skip a beat. She really must believe in dreams. "Really?"
He nods and smiles. Dude, stop doing that! You're creeping me out! "Well, Ms. Gardner, your talent and skills are quite profound. I'm surprised you haven't made it to the big stage yet."
Téa's face starts to heat up. Is she blushing? Oh man! Don't forget, Téa! Yug' is your boyfriend! "Thank you for the compliments."
"I say what I think is true, Ms. Gardner." The loser 'John' says. "Now, let's go over our contract...."
"I'm getting a contract? Like, one of those things all those movie stars have?!" Téa asks trying to control the pitch of her voice. Hey, don't forget Major League Baseball players and hockey stars....they get contracts too, ya know.
'John' chuckles. "Yes. A contract. Basically, just an agreement about our plans about getting you on stage--performing dance--on paper. Nothing to get hyperventilated over."
What kind of dances, huh? Is that ALL she'll be performing for you, you sick bastard?
"Sorry Mr. Matthews--I mean, John--but this is the first time I've been asked to sign one of these things. I'm just really excited that my dreams are an actual reality!"
'John' chuckles again. "I get a lot of that. Not to worry. Anyway, tell me a bit more about yourself."
"But I've handed you my resumé with all my credentials on it--" Téa begins to say. Good, whatever you do, DO NOT engage in this conversation.
"--Consider this your.....your.....interview." He smiles. I want to punch that guy SO hard.
"Oh...um...." Téa stumbled. "Okay. I'm nineteen years old......uh.....Born and raised in Domino City in Japan.....Wanted to become a dancer since I saw the Nutcracker on stage when I was five......I wished it was me being the sugar plum fairies....."
Okay, this is good. Just don't tell him your phone number.....
"....uh....that's all I can think of on the spot...What else would you like to know?"
"I would love to know everything about you, Ms. Gardner....." He says, placing his elbows on the table and leaning towards Téa.
"O-Okay...um....but I don't see what that has to do with anything......" I think Téa's getting the picture now! I think it's finally sinking in! Alright! Go Téa! Now get your rear in gear, make like a fat man's pants, and split!
He's giving her a weird look! He knows that she knows what he wants to do! GET OUT OF THIS ROOM!
------Reader's POV-----
"Oh Cecilia! This portrait is coming out fantastic!" Pegasus cries from his position in the memory. Both Cecilia and him were sitting in a room; Cecilia was on a pedestal in a simple pose with Maxamillion in front of her and behind a canvas--pencil in hand.
"Pegasus, is this your wife?" Shadi asked, looking at Pegasus who was in a trance. He nodded slowly, his eyes fixed on his love that he had tried to revive all those years ago.
"What happens Pegasus?" Ishizu asks.
But Pegasus was too out of it to answer her. "My darling Cecilia..." He whispers. [All this time and I finally get to see you again......Maybe not the way I initially wanted, but just to see you alive in this real-life memory......]
"Pegasus?" Ishizu looks at him.
"Do not disturb him, Ishizu. He needs to.....find some sort of closure." Shadi explains, but was still unsure. [Hopefully, once Pegasus realizes that this is nothing but a memory from his own mind, he'll snap out of it.]
Both of their heads snap back to the picture when Cecilia coughed.
"Honey, is there something wrong?" Pegasus asked.
Cecilia smiled. "No. Probably just a little cold....Oh shoot....I've lost my position."
"Not to worry darling. Your beauty is etched in my mind forever." Pegasus compliments sweetly. Cecilia blushes and giggles.
"Maxamillion....." Cecilia sighs. "You mean so much to me."
Pegasus smiled from behind the canvas and dropped his pencil. "Oh, you don't want to continue?" Cecilia asked.
"No no. I just want a little break. Would you like some lunch outdoors?"
"Certainly!"
Pegasus smiled. "Of course, that's what picnics are for, right?" He grabbed a lone straw basket that contained sandwiches and drinks....and also a small red box.
He poured her a glass of wine and unwrapped her sandwich before she noticed the red box. "Maxamillion, what's that? What's in that box?" Cecilia inquired.
Pegasus picked up the box and resumed his gaze towards her. "Cecilia.....?"
"Yes Max?" Cecilia blinked, but her eyes opened to their fullest when the box was opened. "Oh goodness!" She gasped as her eyes feel upon a shiny gold band with a simple circle cut diamond on top. Her hand covered her opened mouth as Pegasus took her free hand and guided the ring on the third finger.
"Oh my goodness......Oh my......" Cecilia was lost for words at the moment.
"Cecilia.......Would you do me the honours of becoming Mrs. Cecilia Pegasus in holy matrimony?" Pegasus spoke softly before looking into her eyes lovingly. Cecilia, speechless, nodded several times, making her blonde curls bounce enthusiastically.
"Yes! Maxamillion Pegasus, I will marry you!" She jumped on him as she hugged him, pushing him to the ground. She was crying and smiling and so was Pegasus.
"Oh Cecilia, you don't know how happy you've made me!"
Ishizu looked back at the Pegasus in the present. He too was crying. "That was the day we confessed our love for one another....." He whispered.
"What else happens, Pegasus?" Ishizu asks once more. Shadi turns as well and waits for an answer.
[Should I tell them now? Or should I wait and watch it again...?] Pegasus's mind filled with grief could not come up with an answer. "I.....She....." He then broke down with tears. "My Cecilia.......my darling Cecilia.....Why did she have--have---have to go?"
Ishizu laid a comforting hand on his shoulders. [This memory must be filled with grief if this is how Pegasus is acting....Maybe Cecilia was unfaithful? Maybe she......passed on......] Her last thought stuck with her; her instincts told her it was most probable.
"We shall see, won't we?" Shadi asked. They continued to watch as Pegasus returned to his painting with new feelings of happiness to continue.
[That painting marks the day when we brought our love in the open.......and it will haunt me as the picture we had showed at her funeral......] Pegasus thought sadly as he recognized the picture instantly. "Cecilia....you made me so happy.....why did you have to go?"
-----Elaya's POV----
So, now we're all in the bodies of our past-selves.....and we can talk through thought. Man, I didn't know Joey could use 'fuck' so many times in sentence.
"A slave boy?!" Justi cries as her eyes---and mine---come in contact with Jounouchi's. "Tell me that this is not true, Jou!"
But Jou continued to stare sadly at me--uh, us.
"You've heard me the first time, Justika. Your 'friend', Jounouchi, has been recently added to my list of slaves." Priest Seth continues.
[Elaya, I don't understand what is happening!] Seto's voice says in my head.....and probably Joey's too.
[And you think I'M the stupid one. We are in other people's bodies for the BILLIONTH time, you jackass!] Joey shouts back.
"What deeds has he done to deserve his punishments?" Justi asks.
"He does not seem to understand that when I order him to do something, he needs to do it."
Justi's eyes return to Jou's. "Jou.....what--?"
Jou collapsed in our arms. "JOU!" He fell on to his knees, bringing us down with him. He was.......crying?
"Help me.....It hurts....." He mumbles into our shoulder.
"Shh....Jou, stay still." Justi cradles him into a hug but slowly lowers him to the ground in a laying down position. She stands quickly and runs over towards Priest Seth. "What did you--?!"
"--I did nothing that I wouldn't do to any other of my disobedient slaves." Priest Seth scoffs.
Justi continues to glare at him. "But, in case, I throw in a little something extra. Would you like to see?" Priest Seth grabs his Millennium Rod from its holster around his waist and holds it out in front of him. It begins to glow.
"Stop this at once! Jou has done nothing wrong!" Justi shouts.
[Kaiba, point that thing away from me!] Joey shouts.
[I don't have any control.] Seto replies.
[You're enjoying this, aren't you, you sadistic asshole!] Joey cries.
[Both of you, SHUT UP!] I yell as loudly as I can in thought.
Priest Seth laughs as the Millennium Rod continues to glow brighter. Justi turns to see the Millennium Symbol glow on Jou's forehead.
[What am I gonna do now that I have the mind control going on?!] Joey's worried voice hits my brain fast. He must have already had an encounter with the Rod in the near past....
"Slave. Stand." Priest Seth orders. Jou's body obeys almost soullessly.
"Jou! No! Snap out of it!" Justi cries.
"He can't hear you, stupid wretch." Seth mutters coldly. His smile returns suddenly. "Show me your scars."
Jou removes his simple robe......and I'm grateful that ancient Egyptians had a form of boxers.......Holy crap.
"Jou! Your......Your.....chest....." Justi is as shocked as I am. Jou's chest is covered in scratches, bruises, welts and dried blood. Most of his wounds are infected, but I doubt that no one can see that but me. She--well, we-- walk over to him and look at them closely. Justi brings her hand and traces a really long one.....going from under his left breast all the way down to his belly button........
Almost like the one I healed from his body that day we went to the movies with the others.....
Jou's hand smacks ours away. Justi pulls her hand back quickly and watches Jou look around aimlessly for something.
"Find it, mutt. Find it." Priest Seth smiles coyly.
[I guess some insults don't die.....] Seto mutters softly, hoping Joey doesn't hear. Finally, Jou grabs something from the nearby wall.
A knife.
"Jou! Put that down!" Justi tries to run towards him, but a hand holds us back. Seth's hand to be exact. He leans in near our ear and whispers evilly, "Watch."
Jou grabs the knife and makes another large cut going horizontally around his midsection. Suddenly, just as the knife is about half way through its next cut, the Millennium Symbol disappears from Jou's forehead. But the knife is still scraping the skin and letting fresh blood flow over old ones.
He screams and falls down again. I guess he couldn't feel anything while under the influence of the Millennium Rod.
"That little extra thing was that I let him punish himself." Priest Seth smiles and lets go of our shoulder.
"You vile bastard!" Justi cries as she raises her hand and I watch as it comes in contact with his face.
[Yeah! Slap him good!] Joey cheers.
A loud 'smack' echoed in the corridor as Seth's head snapped to the right. He gasped in slightly pained breaths. "You bitch!"
Justi glared and turned on her heel and rushed to Jou's aid.....who was still on the floor. "Jou....Can you hear me?"
Jou looked at me slowly. "Behind......you....."
Priest Seth grabbed our waist and lifted us off the ground. "LET ME GO!" Justi managed to land a couple of good kicks on him, but none of them fazed him.
"You stupid bitch! How dare you mark me!" He tightened his grip.
Justi's eyes widened as Priest Seth's hand rose to hit her. She shut her eyes and waited for the pain to come. But it didn't.
"Don't....touch her!" Jou's voice shouted. His bloody fingers grabbed the hand that was going to strike us.
[Take that Kaiba!] Joey shouted triumphantly.
"Slave, let go!" Seth cried as he pretty much threw him aside. Unfortunately, I was still in his grip.
Suddenly, things got dark again
Joey separated from Jou's body, and I realized that it was Seto's arm holding me—and I was wearing my own clothes and so was he.
But Joey's body was fading.....He was going somewhere else!
"JOEY!" I cry, trying to grab onto his translucent self.
"ELAYA! AH!" He shouts, before darkness consumes him.
"No....Joey...." I mutter. Where is he now? I look at Seto....He's so calm.
"He'll be fine."
How can he be so sure?
