Chapter #26: Bad Eyes

-----In the Hospital—Reader's POV----

"How's her condition doctor?" Pegasus asked as him and Cecilia's doctor left the room.

"It appears to be getting worse.....I'm afraid there is nothing much we can do for her but make her as comfortable as possible..." The doctor replies.

"I.....I see...." Pegasus looks down to stare at the floor. "Thank you for all that you've done...."

"I'll be checking up on her tomorrow....Goodnight Mr. Pegasus." With that, the doctor turned away and walked down the clean, quiet hallway.

Ishizu looked over at Pegasus, who was showing no emotion on his face. [We must be watching what happened shortly after their marriage....] After Pegasus and Cecilia left the chapel, all three of them ended up in some sort of hospital area. [This must be only a few years or months rather, later.....]

Pegasus, from the past, re-entered the room to see Cecilia.....sleeping....attached to one IV holder and one heart monitor.

"Oh Cecilia...Please hold on...Please...." Pegasus mumbled, taking her hand and sitting beside her next to her bed.

"Pegasus." Ishizu stated. "What illness was brought upon your wife that caused her to die?"

"Can....Cancer...." Pegasus choked out, determined not to cry anymore. [This happened a long time ago.....] "She had a tumor in her lung....Chemo therapy was not helping....there were no available donors.... she was in the hospital for a long time.....There was nothing else they could do....but watch her slowly slip away from the world....and me."

Shadi still remained emotionless. [Yami Bakura and Yami Marik are trying to make us all emotionally unstable so we won't be able to fight.....I just hope the others are not breaking down......]

"Maxamillion..." Cecilia whispered. Her eyes fluttered open.

Pegasus looked up from her hand to gaze into her face.

"Never forget me, my love."

"I'll never forget you because you're going to make it. You're not going to leave me." Pegasus declared.

"I'm sorry....But I can't stay much longer...."

"No...Cecilia!"

"I'm....sorry...Maxamillion...." Cecilia's voice got softer and softer....

"NO!"

"I.....love you.....dearly....." Her eyes fluttered open for the last time. "Goodbye my love...Never forget....."

Her hand went limp in Pegasus' hand. "Cecilia! Cecilia! NO! Come back to me! No..." Stray tears were shed from his eyes. "Wake up....My love...wake up!"

But the never ending 'beeping' noise of the heart monitor confirmed his worst fear. Cecilia is gone. Her heart no longer worked. No more blood or oxygen to the brain.....no more life...

"My love...." Pegasus' eyes were filled with sorry as he lent in to kiss his wife once more. "I'll never forget.......Goodbye...."

The image of the hospital faded to nothing but darkness.

"Pegasus?" Shadi asked aloud. "Are you--?"

"—I'm quite alright." He answered quickly. "Come now, we need to keep moving."

Pegasus walked a few steps to realize that no one was walking with him. [Why aren't they following? Don't they want to find those two spirits and put an end to this?]

"You never did forget her." Shadi stated. "You gave your eye to find her. You held a tournament to reach her. Even though you may have failed....She was always with you. In your heart."

Pegasus nodded. "Thank you, Shadi."

"Let us go in search of Yami Bakura and your possessed brother, Ishizu." Shadi walked forward to meet up with Pegasus.

"HEY! Who's down there?!" A male voice shouted to them. [Who is that?] They all thought.

[That sounds like....Yugi Motou!] Ishizu thought, recognizing the voice after quiet consideration. "Yugi! It is Ishizu Ishtar, Shadi and Pegasus."

Footsteps were heard. "Guys! Careful! Don't run too fast.....Do you want to hit some—OW!" A female voice, Téa's, said just as the groups collided.

"Okay....Where are you guys?" Tristan called out, moving his arms around. After careful grabbing, Yugi, Téa, Joey and Tristan were all attached with Ishizu, Pegasus, and Shadi.

"Is it really necessary to hold on to one another, Yugi-boy?" Pegasus asked. [I don't even know WHO'S touching me!]

"We can't get separated." The simple reply stated. "With more numbers, it'll be harder for them to take us down."

"Ready?" Joey cried. "Let's go kick some evil spirit butt!"

-----In the Palace—Atemu's POV-----

We rode towards the palace in silence. The only sound was the hooves beating against the stand.

"So, this is it?" Ryou whispered, looking at the massive stone pillars that separated the palace from the rest of the city. This is where I must have lived.....

We stopped in front of what appeared to be a stable of sorts.

"Haru!" An elder guard looked at us. "Put the horses away." That other solider must of recognized the armour and the horse we were riding on to be the man that Ryou killed....Haru....

"Yes sir." Ryou, as Haru, nodded, jumping off his horse and pulling on the reins. The other soldiers got off their horses as well and allowed Ryou to take them towards the stable. The others turned the opposite way and entered the palace with the Pharaoh. Where am I? Am I even born yet?

"Atemu, come on!" Ryou rushed me as we safely got out of the other soldier's eye sight.

In the stable, he put the horses away and sat down. "I need a plan to get into the palace...I can't exactly walk in there in my armour ALL the time....And if I just enter unnoticed, the others will get suspicious of the disappearance of 'Haru'....."

After some thinking, Ryou suddenly sat upright. "I got it!" He grabbed his helmet and put it back on. "Atemu, stay here! I need to retrieve the body of Haru from my village and stage his death in the stalls......This way, everyone will know what happened to Haru and not get suspicious and so I can make my way into the palace.....Stay put!" He grabbed the horse he was riding on when we came into the palace and made his way to a back door.

"Don't move...I'll be back." He jumped on the horse and rode out of the stable, leaving me alone....

That's when things started fast-forwarding again....The remaining light from the make-shift windows disappear, signaling that it is night time. All the horses are asleep. From inside the stable, I can still hear hooves outside...Ryou has come back!

"Atemu...I'm back....I hope I wasn't late...." He whispers, putting the horse away and carrying the body of Haru. "I found him easily...."

"Then what took you so long?" I ask.

The scene changed from the stables to Ryou's village where three sticks poked out from three large bumps in the ground. He....he had to bury his family. Every grave had one flower on it....Except the last one.

His fathers....

"Oh..." I muttered, as the scene returned to the stables. Ryou looked at me with his one good eye and began to undress Haru's armour. He had to stage a death....

When he finished, Ryou got the knife, soiled with many people's blood, and placed it in Haru's wound. "There. Now, when people find his body tomorrow, they'll think he was alive when they first came here....leaving me, undiscovered."

Ryou's voice was started to turn more menacing. "Come on.....I need to find a way to get into the palace." He began to dig a tunnel in the soft sand underneath the wood that held up the stable. Time began to speed up again and as the white light from the moon became the yellowish-orange colour from the rising sun. This occurred several times—indicating that days went by—before it stopped. It was now morning of about a few weeks later.....

"Ryou! The sun has risen!" I call to him, finally able to move. I looked inside his tunnel to see darkness! Ryou's tunnel was far deeper than I thought. "Ryou!" I called as I began to crawl in the tunnel. I saw that he put pieces of wood along the top and sides to prevent caving.....I bumped into him about a foot into it.

"Atemu, put this wooden platform where the opening is....So no one will travel in this underground area!" Ryou ordered, shoving a piece of wood into my hands. I turned around with ease—the tunnels were very wide—until I met the stable grounds again. I stuck the platform to conceal Ryou's hard work. I crawled once more towards him.

"How far have you tunneled, Ryou?" I ask, seeing the outline of his face.

"I'm not sure....But pretty far. The sand was dry and easy to move.....I also had help from my knife...." He answered. "Wanna help?"

I nod, and use my hands to move the soft sand. Why can my hands touch the sand but not other people?

"Because I asked you to touch it, so you can." Ryou whispered. I said that out loud?

"Oh...." The air got thick....That slab of wood, concealing the tunnels was obstructing our oxygen flow. "Ryou....It's getting hard to breathe...." I choke out as the loose sand fills my nostrils.

"Don't worry....I've started to dig upwards. We're bound to be in a clearing now." Ryou declared. We both began to use our hands as the sand got very thin. "We're almost there!"

The sand broke, spilling a large amount of dusty sand our way. When that cleared, we saw an inner chamber of the palace. Ryou looked up and saw no one. "Come on, no one is here!" He climbed out and helped me to get out as well.

This room.....It looks like a dining area..... "Come on!" Ryou pushes me towards the entrance. Looking around and seeing no guards, we run in the empty hallway. "This is perfect! No one is here!"

"YOU! SLAVE! STOP!" Voices shouted from behind us.

"Shit!" Ryou cursed. But suddenly, he stopped running and slowed to a walk.

"Ryou! Come on!" I shout, trying to get him to move. But the guards caught him easily. "NO!"

"Don't worry Atemu. If they think I'm a slave in the palace, I can have access to all the rooms without being suspicious....Get it?" He says, looking at me one last time before the guards take him away.

"Don't you have some cleaning to do?" The guards mocked and pushed him into the hallway, walking him the opposite way. "Stupid little brats...Trying to escape....Your first time, eh? I'll make sure you break your back for punishment...."

I blinked slowly and felt the scene change one more time under my closed eye lids. Now, I was watching Ryou dust a room.....A very elaborate room....It must be for someone very important....

"Atemu!" Ryou cries, dropping his broom to run up to me. He appears a lot older now......taller, and more toned.....His eye has healed.....he just has a large scar over it and it twitches a bit. His hair has grown out; long and silvery. "I now work for the palace! No one suspects me at all! I'm very close to becoming the leader of the slaves!"

I nod. "Have you done anything?"

"Not yet." He smiles. "But I know exactly what to go after!"

"Who?" I cringe. My father? Or me?

"His precious 'Millennium Items'.....He treasures them dearly and they hold infinite amounts of power when all seven of them are collected....I want to harness that power and bring destruction to that bastard and everyone HE loves...." Ryou explained, eyes glinting with rage. His eyes got darker.......

"Ryou....." I whisper....but he didn't hear me. I changed the subject. "Whose room are you cleaning?"

"His son's.....Stupid brat.....The way I see it is: if he came from a cold hearted bastard, he's probably the same! He holds the most powerful Item, the Puzzle. I guess I can kill two birds with one stone, eh?" He smiles and laughs mischievously.

"Have you seen his son?" I ask.

"No. I've just listened from the opposite wall, if you get my meaning..."

"I see...." I hope this memory ends soon....If Ryou—or Yami Bakura—finds out that I'm the Pharaoh's son, he'll harm me!

"Excuse me, slave." A voice calls from the entrance. "Bow before your Pharaoh!"

Ryou sneers at the man at the doorway. That's—That's my father! Pharaoh Akunumkanon and....me!

Ryou bows slightly and turns to exit, but when he meets my gaze, he stops. "You're—You look like him!" Ryou shouts. The background fades to nothing but darkness and I'm left with Ryou.

"Atemu! Is that you?!" He demands, fists clenched at his sides, eyes darkening to a black colour.

"Yes." I bow my head. I still cannot believe that my father did such a thing to Ryou's family......but if it was for a ritual to save the world from destruction.....

"You bastard! And I trusted you! You fucking bastard! You used my family's blood for your own selfish needs!"

"No! Ryou, stop! It was for a ritual to stop the destruction of the world!" I shout at him, trying to get my point across. "Some have to be sacrificed for the many! I know this wasn't right, but in order to—!"

"—SHUT UP!" Ryou lunges at me, tackling me to the ground. "They're dead! Because of your stupid 'predictions' they're all dead! They would have been alive if not for you! They're dead! Dead!" Tears poured down his cheeks. "I wouldn't be angry, I wouldn't be a thief, I wouldn't be evil if wasn't for you!"

He held me down with his arms, legs on either side of me. "You brought our tension between us on to yourself......" The Millennium Ring began to show up on Ryou's chest and the Millenium Symbol on his forehead. His clothes changed from his peasant robe to the green stripped T-Shirt and jeans.....It was Yami Bakura!

His arms went up over his head and that bloodied knife appeared there. Yami Bakrua kept his hands raised. "Die Atemu!"

-----Reader's POV-----

Kaiba walked alone in the darkness for some time after talking with Joey. [That mutt does have a brain that functions.....Interesting actually.] He snickered to himself and listened as the sound echoed off the walls.

Even though he joked, he couldn't get those words out of his head. About how much they were similar.....how they're going through the same thing.... [Wheeler hit the nail on the head.....] Kaiba mused, trying to get it out of his head. [Focus on something else. You never used to listen to Wheeler in the first place, why start now?]

"Don't become an unforgiving, bastard of a man like Gozaburo was....." Joey's voice echoed in his mind. [You're not like him.....] Kaiba repeated in his mind over and over again. But the similarities between the man who raised him and what he had become were rising. [Fuck! Stop thinking about it!]

Another light came towards him. [Good. This'll take my mind off him.]

He was brought to a palace of sorts. It was very elaborate. [I must be in Egypt. Figures....all that stupid talk from Ishizu about my past life...Whatever...]

The walls were made of sand stone; the floors of part sand, part stone. He continued walking until he saw a room entrance. Everything beyond that room was shrouded in darkness. [I guess this is the door 'they' want me to go in.....] He thought, partially amused.

He walked up to the entrance and stared inside. It was a very dark room; light only come in from a few candles. Two people sat on some sort of bed in the center of the room. From the faint outline of the candles, he saw that the figure closest to the candle had orange hair and green eyes.

[ELAYA! What is she doing here? Why is she sitting on a bed next to....] Kaiba's eyes looked at the other figure. The outline of tall spiky hair was the only thing he needed to identify the person beside his girlfriend. [Why is she sitting next to Yugi?! Or Yami....whatever that guy's name is! Why is she sitting with him on a bed?!]

"Atemu..." Elaya whispered. "I am ready to do what you want."

[What is she saying?!] Kaiba's mind scrambled for an answer but couldn't find one. He continued to stare at the two.

Elaya gulped and continued. "To keep your silence. To keep him safe."

[Who the hell is she talking about? Me? Or who else?]

"Good." Yugi stated. Through the light, Kaiba could see that he was smirking. [What is he planning to do?!] "I would be honoured if you spend the night with me, my love."

Kaiba backed up from the entrance a few steps. [What?! What is she doing?! What is HE doing?!]

His heart stopped when Yugi leaned in for a kiss.

And when he saw that she was enjoying it.

Yugi's hands traveled to the back of her head to deepen the kiss and after a few moments, they both tore away breathless. Yugi pushed Elaya down on the bed and began to kiss her again.

What sickened him the most was that she was kissing back. His Elaya was kissing him!

"GET OFF OF HER!" Kaiba shouted as loud as he could. He ran towards the kissing couple only to watch as the memory exploded into tiny fragments.

[How could she--? Why?] Kaiba's mind was filled with sadness; to soon be consumed with rage. [That bitch. After everything we've done together! I trusted her with everything I had.....and this is what she does? How could she do this to me?!]

He curled his fists in rage. [How dare she.....] Kaiba stood still in the darkness, not moving. [She....I can't believe her!......Gozaburo had some sense....Don't trust anyone....Look what happened when I did....That slut....] He growled loudly in his throat.

[She'll pay for that.]
