A/N: Yeah, this new editing system does not allow me to put the stars and the swirly lines whenever I have a POV change....So, unfortunately, I'll be using '---' instead...Boring, I know.... (unless..)...OH! And, I've figured out how to use bold and italics too! After I'm done my fics...I'm SO editing ALL of them so they all look the same.....stupid editing system.....first with my stars, now with my slashes...--

Chapter #27: Confrontations

-----In the darkness—Elaya's POV-----

I touch my lips faintly, remembering that kiss I gave Seto when I was like ten. So cute....Aww...

((( Elaya, come on, we need to keep moving. ))) Justi nagged in my mind.

(( Okay, okay...Calm down, I'm going.... )) I mutter, taking long strides into the darkness for about the billionth time that day.....Feeling around for walls, my hand eventually hits that cold stone surface. Thank God. I have a guide now!

"Hello?! Anyone there?!" I shout loudly. I remember my pocket flashlight and whip it out. The faint glow doesn't really do much for my sight, but hey, it's still good.....Hey! I think I see Seto! "Hey! Seto! Sorry for losing you that time!"

He whispered something to me.....His voice was cracked with anger....Is he turning a corner? "Seto! I'm over here! In front of you!" I shout. Why is he angry? Is it because I left him?

I continue to run up towards him, yelling out his name, but I trip over a loose stone in the ground. "AH!" Losing my balance, I fall head first into something....But it wasn't the ground.....It was soft and felt like cotton.....

"GET IT OFF!" Is that Joey's voice?

"Joey?" I ask. Don't tell me that I just landed in Joey's chest like one of those 'helpless girls' from the movies.....Dammit....I have....Why am I such a klutz?

"ELAYA?!" Wow...since when has Joey's voice gotten so loud and filled with different octaves? I look up with my pocket flashlight and notice that Joey is arm-linked with Yugi and Pegasus, who are arm-linked with Ishizu and Tristan, who are arm-linked to Téa and Shadi....Cool!

"Come on E, attach to us!" Tristan called from the right.

"Uh, why?" I asked, somewhat confused. Hey! Where did Kaiba go?!

"So we can kick some evil ass back to next Wednesday!" Joey cried, breaking the link for a second to help me up.

"Oh. Okay...." I stutter out. "Hey, Yugi, did you find Atemu?"

With the dim light, he looked at me puzzled. "No. Why? Have you found Justi?"

I nod. "Yeah...She's in my 'mind chamber' right now." Yugi's eyes got really wide but I didn't really know why....

((( Elaya! Don't you understand! If the Yami's are separated from their Hikari's that means that Atemu's spirit could be in the hands of Yami Bakura or Yami Marik! ))) Justi shouts in our mind-link.

Oh crap. She's right! "Yugi! If—" Before I could explain, he had already caught on!

"—Guys! We need to move! Come on! If Atemu is the Pharaoh that both Bakura and Marik are after, he's in serious trouble!"

"But Yugi, Atemu doesn't have a body of his own." Téa reasoned.

"I know, but our bodies are here either! We're more like spirits in the Puzzle...And Atemu is a spirit.....There's no doubt that he's lost and confused...." Yugi explained. "We have to find him before those two dark spirits do!"

"Yugi, don't forget, the Pharaoh is the only person who can free the good sides of both Bakura and Marik from the slavery of their evil Yami's....He is more powerful then they are." Ishizu spoke urgently.

"Regardless of his powers, the Pharaoh does not know the extent of them...We need to move. There isn't much time!" Shadi started to walk again, making all of us follow suit.

But Kaiba....He's still lost...

I break free for a moment and try to run towards that corridor that he turned towards before I hit Joey in the chest. I'm just about to make it to the entrance when a hand pulls me back. "Girl! Watch out!"

Shadi pulls me backwards, taking me off my feet to land on my butt. I look at the dark entrance Seto walked into....to see that a stone wall—that must of came from above--had slammed down, covering it.....No way in...

No way out.

"NO! SETO! He's in that place! He's trapped!" I shout frantically, trying to make my way back to the door.

"Girl! Stop. If we find Yami Bakura and Marik, we'll save ourselves and Seto as well." Shadi's reassuring voice does nothing. He's trapped! He's FUCKING trapped in there! Shit.

"Come on E! The faster we find those two freaks, the faster we can get Kaiba! Come on!" Tristan shouted.

Téa linked arms with me and pulled me towards the end of the chain. "Don't worry...Kaiba's the most mature person for a nineteen year old I've ever seen....he'll be fine!"

We all begin to run in sync with one another away from the place where Seto is....

------In the Darkness—Seto's POV-----

Stupid twit. She acts all happy, even after she.....Don't think about it. If she thinks I'll let it slide, she's wrong. I don't even know where I'm going....But you know what? Who cares? As long as I'm as far away from them as possible, I'll be fine.

That memory continues to play out in my head and I can't seem to get rid of it. That slut. To make matters worse, she just happens to collide head first into that mutt's chest.......

A soft, menacing voice breaks up my thoughts. That sounds like that friend of theirs..... Ishizu's brother, Marik....

I bring my body as close to the wall as possible to not be seen. Looking around those familiar sand stone walls, I see him, a few floors down from where I am currently standing. Shit. That's a big drop.

"Hey, where's your partner in crime?" I whisper softly, mildly amused at seeing Marik all alone.

"Yami Bakura?! Come back! Our defenses are down because of you!" He shouts. Huh. My mistake. He wasn't just standing around......he was looking for this 'Yami Bakura'? It appears that Mr. Bakura was the brains in this scheme and poor Marik is left alone.

I'm taking my chances. If I don't stop this freak now, Bakura will come back and bring me somewhere else. Looking down at the big drop, I sigh. Now or never. I take a few steps back and run towards the opening.

Falling too a lot longer than I thought it would. Everything was in slow motion.....

I land with a roll since being taught that landing on your feet just straight down can snap your ankles in two. Marik, hearing the sudden clatter, turns my way. "Well, if it isn't the all high and mighty Seto Kaiba. I'm surprised YOU found us."

"Please, don't flatter yourselves." I snort, getting up and brushing myself off. "This ends here and now."

"And what would you do to threaten me?" Marik smirks, looking at his nails in an 'I'm-not-interested-in-what-you-have-to-say' manner.

"Nothing really." I admit truthfully, folding my arms across my chest. "But what do you have against me to keep me here?"

"Good point." Marik scoffs at me. "But I can't just let you leave."

"Why not?"

"I'm under an oath of truth." He sneers. "Sorry Mr. Kaiba, but don't you have friends to go help?"

"Friends? Help? I never heard of that."

"Really?"

"What makes you think I'm not serious?" I scowl. This is testing my patience. Can this moron see that I mean nothing to this whole thing? I'm just here for that stupid ritual; I don't have time for this crap. I barely know Marik and 'Yami Bakura'. All I do know is that they're nuts.

"Answering questions with questions will get you no where Kaiba." Marik states. "So, you do not care what happens to your friends?"

"I'm surprised that it's not obvious that I don't care." I muster. Idiot. Doesn't he get it? I don't belong here. "Just let me go Marik, and I won't come back."

He glares at me. "You help me, I'll help you." Marik smirks.

"Fine. What do you want me to do?" I roll my eyes.

Lifting up his cloak, he reveals that 'Millennium Rod' we all became familiar with back in Battle City. "Catch, Mr. Kaiba."

I catch it with one hand easily. "What do you want me to do with this?"

"Distract the others with it." He instructs. "Don't make them interrupt."

"And how, may I ask, will I do that?"

"You know." He smiles. "It's in your past......Don't take me for a fool Kaiba, if you go back on your word, you'll be in for a pleasant surprise."

I grip the Rod tightly. If this is what I have to do to get out of here, so be it.

I know what I need to do. I smile as I head back towards another door, certain that I would find them in there.

-----In the Darkness—Atemu's POV-----

The bloodied knife came down hard and fast. With my free arms, I manage to grab the hands of Ryo—Yami Bakura—and stop the first attack. With both of our hands shaking, the knife stays a few centimeters away from my face.

"You brought this upon your self, stupid Pharaoh!" Yami Bakura shouts at me, putting more pressure on the knife. His eyes were in a tight frown and were tinged with red.

"I did nothing wrong, Yami Bakura!" I struggle out, wincing as I see the blade coming closer.

"You used their blood, didn't you?!" He shouted at me. "That ritual to save the world during your reign—you know, the one with Priest Seth and the God Cards—was what they were talking about!"

A brief image crosses my mind to Battle City; my duel with Kaiba and that flashback we went through.... "I had no choice!"

"You had a choice! You made the wrong one by using them!" He shouted at me.

"I had to sacrifice the few to save the many, Ryou! What don't you understand?!" The blade was getting closer.

I can feel the sharp steel at my throat. I shut my eyes.

Then, it stopped.

Opening them up, I see that Yami Bakura has leaned back and was now sitting on me. The knife was in his left hand and his face was covered with his white bangs. "Why do you call me by that name?"

I continue to stare at him, eyes wide, unable to speak.

"Why do you call me that?! WHY?!" He flung the knife aside and lunged at me. Bony fingers wrap around my neck, but don't squeeze.

A bit confused as to why he wasn't strangling me, I manage to answer, "It is your name."

"No. He died! You killed him!" My throat was pressed inwards and I struggled to breathe. I try to pull at the hands, but my attempts were feeble.

My vision blurred slightly. Everything was getting into doubles. But I could see Ryou's face: dark brown eyes, short, spiky, untamed hair and the scar. The scar was visible now. Yami Bakura was not there anymore. It was Ryou. This was Ryou's anger. This is what Ryou wanted to do to me because of what my family did.

"R...you...." I gasp out as my vision continues to blur. But I see his face clearly. "If...it...wasn't your....village....someone......else....—"

"—I don't care about 'someone else'! This happened to me! There is nothing that can change it!" He interrupts. "It happened to me! Me! Not someone else!"

"R....you..." I stutter out. Black dots dance in my vision.

"Don't call me that!" Ryou shouts. I repeat his name softer. "Stop it! Don't call me that!"

My gasps for air are doing nothing for me. The surroundings soften to a light gray with lots of tiny black and blue dots all around. But Ryou's face doesn't falter. It doesn't get covered up.

"I...I'm...I'm sorry....R...you..." My eyelids feel so heavy now.....

His grip lightens a bit. "No. You're not sorry, Pharaoh."

"Yes....If I could have stopped it, I would. But I couldn't.......and I can't change the past now." Since he loosened his grip, air was returning into my lungs. "If it wasn't your village, Ryou, someone else would have lost their family. Unfortunately, that person was you, not someone else. To save the world from the evil, we had to sacrifice the few for the many...."

His eyes still burned with anger, but he understood. "You may be justified, Pharaoh......But you should have killed me when you could. I'm 'the one that got away'. Why did you seal me away in that cursed Ring?! Why did you make me live forever? Why did you create your own demise?!"

"That was the ritual." I spoke clearly now, my vision almost returning to normal. All these new facts were flooding my mind. All the memories of my past where behind open doors! No more mysteries.... "Everyone who had a Millennium Item was sealed away inside of it to stop the Shadows from escaping. It was like a shield against them. As long as the Items remained locked, the shield was in place.....But when the Puzzle was re-formed, the seals began to break, and the Shadows returned again....

"You were not meant to have the Ring, Ryou. You got placed in there because you had it in your possession at the time."

Yami Bakura's predatory smirk edged through Ryou's face. "I stole it from that Priest."

"If you didn't, you would have been with Aria and your mother—" I began to say.

"—Shut up!" He shouts at me. "Don't bring them into this! Because of their deaths, I swore revenge! Revenge on everything that Pharaoh Akunumkanon loved! And that included you AND his precious Millennium Items! In death, I could do nothing! I'd rather die knowing that your soul was eaten away by the very monsters you sealed! I'd rather die knowing that you are going through the same torment I did!"

"Ryou...I..." I stutter out. His fingers grip my neck tighter.

"Don't. Call me that." Ryou growls. "Say goodbye, my Pharaoh. Your reign is over. Your power belongs to me." Reaching at my chest, he pulls hard on the Millennium Puzzle.

The chain snaps easily in his grip. "NO!" I grab for it, but he holds me down with his free hand. Placing the Puzzle next to him on the floor, he returns his hands to my throat.

He looks down at me with a smile. "Your friends and your people will be the next to suffer. They were also something else both you and him loved....right?"

I glare at him. "No...Don't....." Please, don't hurt Yugi....Not my friends...

"You're begging...How pathetic. Honestly Pharaoh, I would have expected more of a fight." His hands grip my neck tighter. "You WILL die at the hands of me, Atemu!"

The black and blue dots return to me again. Waiting for me to dance with them. Most everything gets blurry.....

A tear escapes my open eye.....I'm sorry my friends.......The darkness looks so much better now. But the only thing not turning into darkness is Ryou's face. His sinister smile does not fade and his laughter echos. I'm sorry........I have failed.....

OMG! I don't know what I was writing! HOLY CRAP! I didn't mean for it to come out this way! 'shakes head' What have I done?! {You've done nothing wrong. I like it when it's all evil} [Hey! I thought I got rid of you from TMS II!] {Nope. Still here. I managed to break free of that cage and infect your mind.} [Curses....You gave me writer's block?] {Yup. And I'm proud!}

Well....it was probably because I had MASSIVE writer's block this week and I was like, "Ugh....What am I doing?" Honestly, I didn't even know Kaiba was going to the dark side! It just happened! (kinda cool how it did, eh?)

Hopefully, this will all get sorted out in later chapters....'sigh' I don't even know how I'm gonna end their trip in Egypt yet!
