Chapter #31: Coming Home

-------One Day After the Ritual--In the Hotel.....Yugi's POV------

"Come on Yugi! Get packing! Our plane leaves tomorrow at seven in the morning!" My grandpa shouts at me. With only one more day left in our vacation--after the ritual--the others and I just hung out around the hotel; you know, in the pool, in the lobby.....After a long night of 'partying' we finally arrived home....at a quarter to midnight. That was the same time we got back from the ritual last night.....

"Yeah yeah....I know." I stretch a bit and walk to my bed, pulling the half empty luggage from under the bed and throwing on top. Folding my clothes and placing everything in the correct place, I kept thinking about Atemu and what he's doing now. I look out that same window that I looked out a couple of nights ago.

He's there! Just like that night! He's in the window as my reflection! Jumping over the bed, I race towards it and see him. He has darker skin now and wearing his Egyptian clothing with the Puzzle hanging lightly on his neck. I watch him take the Puzzle piece where the Dark Magician card is and take it out. He shows it to me. Peering closer to the window, I see that underneath 'YUGI', someone wrote, 'My light'

Atemu smiles at me and places his hand up against the glass. I do the same. He nods at me and then vanishes.

:::: I'll always be there for you, Yugi. Just believe and I'll be there. ::::

A tear escapes my eye as I smile back to the window.

"Yugi, come on now. I know the Egyptian scenery is beautiful, but it's almost midnight and you're not done packing." Arthur nags at me, bringing me out of my state. Wiping the tear away to destroy the evidence of my crying, I turn around and continue to pack.

Thirty minutes later, I sat back on the bed exhausted. "Done." I whisper to myself. Arthur and my grandpa already went to sleep. Taking off my clothes and changing into my pyjamas, I went underneath the covers. I was about the grab at the Puzzle around my neck to put it away, but stopped when I only grabbed air. Sighing at the loss, I shut my eyes and tried to sleep.

But the image I saw in the window kept showing up at the back of my eye lids. I miss him so much. :::: I'll always be there for you, Yugi. Just believe and I'll be there. :::: My mind repeats his last words....and it gives me some comfort, I guess.

Looking at that stupid digital clock with the green flickering numbers, I notice that I've been in bed for almost fifteen minutes. And I still can't sleep! I have to wake up at--most likely--five o'clock! Groaning, I shift to the other side of the bed. As I stare at the yellow pillow cover, my mind goes through everything that happened after Atemu said goodbye.

------Flashback-----

When I placed the Puzzle in the correct spot on Atemu's coffin, all the Items began to react--glowing all their colours. Shadi, Marik and Ishizu began to chant things in Egyptian while the rest of us looked on.

The room where the tomb was began to shake; many of the statues fell to the ground. But only a few seconds later, it stopped. No more coloured lights, no more shakes, no more anything.

Shadi was the first to speak. "The ritual has ended. The Pharaoh and all the other spirits have returned to the afterlife."

"Good. Can we go now?" Kaiba asked.

"Ya know what Kaiba?" Joey said, turning to face him. "Do us all a favour and honestly, shut the fuck up. No one wants to hear ya."

Ishizu stepped forward and looked at all of us. "The last thing my Necklace showed me was a replay of everything that has happened in my life and with the Pharaoh. This vision could mean that the events of your lives," She motioned her hand to us before continuing, "will be repeated once more many, many years from now."

"Again?! I can barely stand living my life now, let alone one more time!" Elaya slumped forward.

"No Elaya. It is not you who will be redoing these events. It will be your descendants over 3 000 years from now." Ishizu explained to us. "I'm not sure if the Necklace showed me a vision or just random events, but from what I've been taught, history will repeat itself. A man like Pegasus will lose his wife and find comfort in re-creating Duel Monsters. A man like Kaiba will deny everything.....and a man like Yugi will protect the world."

"And a dude like Marik will go crazy." Joey whispered under his breath. Ishizu heard him and frowned slightly.

"Joey, NOT the time!" Téa grumbled.

"My predictions may be false, but your lives could be repeated as this tomb is found once again." Ishizu concluded. "But if fate changes, the Pharaoh and the Items will not be disturbed for eternity."

-------Flashback End------

I roll over on my bed, throwing the itchy covers off my body. Facing the ceiling, a smile plays upon my face. "If fate changes....If Ishizu's Necklace didn't show the future, Atemu and the others will stay with their memories until, well, forever..." I whisper out loud to myself. "They'll be in the afterlife and they won't forget a thing..."

Maybe the Shadows are sealed for good. Maybe mankind won't be disturbed by the Shadow Games any more......All I know is that I won't be around to see if Ishizu was right or wrong. In fact, I probably won't see Ishizu in a long time! Pegasus and the two Ishtars are staying in Egypt and didn't exactly tell us if they'd be returning to Domino any time soon....

Shutting my eyes again, I drift into sleep. But the last thing I see is Atemu's smiling face.

-----Morning—The Girl's Room....Reader's POV-----

"ELAYA!" Téa shouted, noticing that her friend was still in bed even after she was done taking a shower. [God! Does this girl EVER wake up on time?]

"Ughn..." Elaya mumbled. "Go away....Give me a few minutes..."

"We don't HAVE a few minutes! GET UP!" Téa shoved Elaya's body hard, causing her to roll over and fall on the floor.

"OW!" Elaya cried as her body made contact with the hard floor. [Crap....my head.....]

"Sorry."

Grumbling, Elaya got up and went into the bathroom. "I'll be right out, Ms. Shove-a-lot!" [Ow...That really hurt....]

"I said I was sorry!" Téa cried after her friend, feeling a bit guilty for shoving her friend off a bed. [Well....if I hadn't did that....she wouldn't of woken up!] She thought, finding reason. A knock at the door, startled her a bit. "Who is it?"

"Jason from Friday the Thirteenth....Who do you think it is?!" A voice that sounded like Joey muttered sarcastically. "We told ya we'd come a knockin'.....You two up yet? Yugi's gramps woke our room up at the crack of dawn!"

Téa opened the door a little to see Bakura, Tristan and Joey standing there with their luggage neatly at their feet. "Elaya's in the washroom. I'm ready though."

Bakura laughed. "She hasn't changed much in sleeping patterns." [Elaya ALWAYS woke up late....I remember that time she arrived in Chemistry in her pyjamas.....]

"Well, when she's out of the washroom, tell her to get her ass in gear and meet the rest of us in the front lobby." Tristan instructed.

"For your information, she's only tired because YOU two," Téa began, referring to Joey and Tristan, "wanted to stay out past curfew at that stupid bar thing!" [We got the worst lecture of our lives...] She thought, recalling the yelling between Yugi's grandpa and her friends.

"Just tell her to hurry up, okay?" Joey asked, tiredly. [I'm in no mood to argue Téa...I'm tired...and I think there was something funny in my piña- colata...or whatever it was called...]

As the boys left and turned the corner, Téa only had to wait a few more minutes before Elaya came out of the washroom, all ready to go. "Got an Advil or something? My head hurts.....You know, from that shove that landed me on the floor!"

Practically running down the stairs, the two girls met up with the other three and together, they half-walked-half-ran towards the lobby.

"It's about time you guys got here!" Solomon said. "We've been waiting for quite some time." [Teenagers these days.....always late.....]

"Sorry gramps." The teens said in unison. Yugi, his grandfather and Professor Hopkins were already there, sitting on the couches in the lobby.

"Are we all here an accounted for?" Arthur asked. Looking around, he noticed that someone was missing. "Where are Seto and Mokuba Kaiba?"

"Get your eyes checked, we're right here." Came the cold voice from the elevator doors. The two Kaiba brothers were slowly walking towards the rest of the group, luggage in hand. "Can we go now?"

"Yes yes....Let's go. Our ride is waiting outside." Arthur replied, not responding to Kaiba's rudeness. Everyone was too tired to speak as they boarded their taxi. After throwing their luggage sluggishly in the trunk, Solomon took the passenger's seat—next to the driver—Arthur, Yugi, Kaiba and Mokuba were squished in the next row that should only seat three people, and Elaya, Joey, Bakura, Téa and Tristan were painfully close in the row behind them.

"What's up your boyfriend's ass this morning?" Joey whispered to Elaya as the taxi took off towards the airport. [I know he's a jerk, but after that ritual, he's been even a BIGGER jerk than before!]

"How the hell should I know, he hasn't spoken a word to me since....since two days ago!" Elaya protested. She honestly did not know why Seto acting ruder than he usually did. [Maybe that ritual got him a bit ruffled.....with the whole past life thing.....] Telling her idea to Joey, he shrugged, but agreed.

"Whatever it is, he sure is being a pain in the ass." Joey muttered.

"That's how he usually acts." Tristan put in.

"He does not!" Elaya defended tiredly.

"He does and you know it!" Tristan and Joey mumbled back.

"Guys, please," Bakura pleaded, "it's six-forty in the morning. Shut up....Téa's sleeping and I'm trying to get some extra sleep too! That party yesterday night—to celebrate our last night in Egypt—was one of your worst ideas yet!"

"And you're saying those two numbskulls have GOOD ideas?" Téa asked groggily, being stirring awake from the talking beside her.

------On the Plane—Reader's POV-----

"Good morning. Our current time is four fifty-five p.m. This is your captain speaking. We are headed towards Domino City Airport on schedule and should arrive in half an hour's time. Thank you for selecting Domino Air and I hope you enjoy the rest of your flight."

The statement over the P.A. system was heard by the select few who were not sleeping on the early and extremely long flight. Bakura heard it however and nudged Elaya in the plane seat beside him. "E. We're gonna land in thirty minutes." He normally hated to bother people, but she had asked him to do so when there was only thirty minutes left of the flight.

Stretching, she mumbled an "Okay then." and sat upright in her chair. [Man....I didn't know I slept so well on planes.....Especially for over five hours.....] Looking over the rows in front of her, she noticed that Joey and Tristan were asleep, sprawled out, almost covering Mokuba who was unlucky enough to be given the seat between them. He was also asleep. Téa, sitting in the same row as Joey, Tristan and Mokuba, was already up, reading a book.

She couldn't see the seats were Seto, Yugi, Solomon and Arthur were sitting but she could bet that Seto wasn't asleep. [He's probably working on something.....or working on his mind and how that 'mumbo-jumbo' was actually right.....] Elaya thought tiredly. It was only her and Bakura in the last row—she had the window seat. He, on the other hand, had the 'pleasure' of being next to a balding, overweight man who apparently does not understand the concept of deodorant. The other person in their row was another man, in his early twenties, with dreadlocks and a Hawaiian T-Shirt, also asleep.

"Thanks for waking me up 'Kura." Elaya whispered. "So, now, by the time the plane lands, I'll be up and at them!"

"Good. Everyone else will need an example when we get off this plane." Bakura smirked. "And please, don't call me 'Kura', I don't like nick names."

"Sure, whatever." Elaya blinked slowly. [God....I can't wait to be back in my apartment. I wonder how my mom is doing.....I wonder how Justi is doing to...Too bad I can't ask her that....] Thinking of her Yami, she thought of something. "Hey, Bakura?"

"Yeah?"

"When you took off the Ring, what happened?" She asked. [I wonder if he got the same stuff me and Yugi went through....with the goodbyes and such.....]

Bakura looked at her for a second, and then stared at the floor. Breathing in a deep breath after a minute of silence, he sighed. "Before I took off the Ring, I was kinda in this dark, dusty place....I can't describe it.....I was awake, I knew I was in the tomb, but my eyes were telling me otherwise....

"It was very dark and cold and when I looked up—I arrived on the floor, crouching for some reason—I saw two of me! It was like, me, and two other people who looked like me! Anyway, one of them was very mean looking.....He looked sinister with his eyes narrowed in a tight frown and he was glaring at me, I think. One of his eyes was covered in blood and his hair was too. His hands were in tight fists.

"The other one, looked more gentler.....He looked more innocent, less.....uh....vengeful. He was a lot calmer and was smiling happily. Then, the two of them merged together really fast.....And there stood the Yami who was always trying to hurt my friends and the Pharaoh. My Yami shook his head and began to walk past me. Before he left, he stopped at my side and said,

'I leave no regrets. I was born a thief. I'll die a thief.....And I'll continue to be a thief until my judgement. Stealing things......was the only thing I was good for.' He smiled softly....It wasn't his usual evil smirk....but it was a smile, nonetheless. Then, he left. When I blinked, I returned to the Tomb with a slight headache...." Bakura finished his story and looked back at his friend. [Why is she looking at me like that?]

Elaya's eyes were fully opened and her mouth was an 'o'. "I see." [I guess since his Yami left without resistance, it didn't hurt as much.....] She concluded. "You said he tried to hurt you and us....Are you happy he left?"

"Yes..." Bakura nodded. "Now, I feel kinda empty; like I'm missing part of my soul....even if it WAS partially evil. But, there was something about the gentler one that looked like me. Kinda showing me that my Yami was not as dark as he seemed to be.....Well, that's just my opinion...." He added, shuffling his hands in his lap.

Elaya smiled. "I can relate. God, I feel the same way about the whole soul thing....I sure miss her though." She looked back at the window and could have sworn she saw Justi's smiling face.

And in her hair was the black hair tie with the blue and yellow flower.

-----Domino Airport—Reader's POV-----

"Christ! My legs!" Tristan moaned as he painfully made his way away from the terminal.

"Oh stop complaining......How did you think I felt?!" Téa glared, not wanting the entire airport to hear Tristan complaints. [I had to go on back- to-back flights!]

"Alright kids, I suggest you all get your luggage. Me and Arthur will call up a taxi to take us all home, alright?" Solomon smiled. "I hope you had a wonderful trip in Egypt! I know I sure did." Both of the elders walked off as the younger ones made their way to their respective pick-up area.

"So, Mokuba, what did you do when the rest of us were....uh...gone?" Elaya asked the younger Kaiba. [If I mention ONE word about the ritual to him, Seto's gonna kill me.]

"I went with them on their dig. It was so cool! I found this old stone that looked like it belonged to part of a dagger....Well, they found it, but I brushed the sand off of it!" Mokuba informed excitedly, words going a mile a minute. [It was SO cool! I wanna come back here again someday!]

"Hey, Seto, did you hear? Mokuba found a—" Elaya began to tell him about his brother's findings.

"—Yeah, I heard." Seto glared at her. "Don't continue talking about it."

[Why is he giving me such a cold shoulder?] She asked herself, staring at him. [Why is he so crabby?] Her hand found a place on his shoulder. "You okay--?"

He shrugged her hand off quickly. "Don't. Touch me."

"Excuse me?" Elaya asked, taken back at his sudden bitter actions. [What is with him?] The others were still looking for their luggage, not really listening to what Kaiba had to say.

"You heard me the first time." Kaiba turned around stiffly and walked towards the luggage. Finding his and Mokuba's, he picked up both of theirs and proceeded to walk out. [How can she act so clueless?] He bumped Joey's luggage out of his grasp and got a nasty glare and a nasty finger pointed towards him.

"What the hell is up with you?" Elaya asked, following him.

"Well, I consider it nothing, since I have a slut for a girlfriend." Kaiba's eyes kept looking forward. That's when Téa and Joey looked up. [Did he just call Elaya a slut?] Joey thought.

"Hey! Kaiba! What was that for?!" Téa called out but her question was unheard. Tristan, Yugi and Bakura were also looking up now as well, since Téa asked him a question. [What's going on now?] The three of them thought with luggage in hand.

Mokuba, noticing Seto didn't answer Téa's question, repeated it. "Big brother! What was that--?"

"Stay out of this Mokuba. It doesn't concern you." He shot back, making Mokuba's eyes widen.

Elaya's eyes were shining with surprise. "A—a slut? Excuse me?!" She retorted.

Kaiba turned around and stared down at her. "You know exactly what you did so there is no reason for me to—"

"—Actually, I don't. Do tell, you fuck." Elaya's temper was rising. [A slut?! A SLUT?! How could he--? I never--! I'd never do that to him!]

Coming up to her so that they were face to face, he snarled. "You and Motou were getting quite friendly in a bedroom, if you must know." Kaiba said this low so that only she could hear him. [She better get the picture now.] "What me to go in detail, you clueless moron?"

[W—W—What?] Elaya was taken back. She blinked several times, trying to take in exactly what Kaiba was saying. [He thinks that I......?] "No. No! You're wrong!"

Kaiba snorted. "I know what I saw. You and Motou......I saw it with my own two eyes back at that ritual."

"No! You're wrong! I'd never do that to you!" Elaya protested, losing her anger and pleading with him. [He has to understand! He's wrong! I never did that! I don't like Yugi in that way!] Realization hit her. [Justi!] "Seto! You're wrong! That wasn't me!"

Kaiba smirked and glared down at her. "Honestly, you're a better liar than that. Now that we're through here, why don't you run along with your other toys, hm? I'll be leaving. Don't wait up."

"Seto! Listen to me!" Elaya made the mistake of trying to grab on to his shoulder. Kaiba whirled around and caught her hand in a death grip.

"Never disgrace my name like that again. I made the mistake of trusting my heart to anyone—especially you. It was better when I didn't know you." He frowned at her and tightened his grip. "I was a fool to believe in you. To me, you're the scum of the earth right now, you know that? I better not see your face this close again, if you know what's good for you."

Listening in from a few metres back, Yugi, Bakura, Tristan, Téa, Joey and Mokuba looked on with shock. "I can't believe..." Téa whispered. Each of them were stuck in their place, not able to move, not believing what they just saw and heard.

[Kaiba just....He just......] Tristan and Joey looked on, fury raging in their fists.

Elaya, stood frozen in place, absorbing everything he was saying slowly. She barely noticed that he had let go of her wrist. [He's.....He's leaving? But he.....No...please.....] Tears threatened to spill. Just like when Justi left her—taking a part of her soul......He had taken another part. Straight from the depths of her heart.

But he had thrown it to the wind, not holding on to it, and not letting her grab it back.
