To start; The fic is not dead everyone, it's just a combination of irl issues and a little bit of burn out. I'm also working on about 5 other different stories that I plan on releasing at some point, and another I already have out.
Just stay with me.
Next: probably not by best work by far. Frankly, I've had this sitting in here for a few months, and forcing yourself to write when burnt out doesn't produce the best quality.
Side note: this chapter will probably be really short, so don't expect a whole lot. If it isn't, this message won't be here (and if it is it's because I forgot to take it out).
Tomura rolled back out of the portal violently and tumbled into the wall on the other side of the room. On his way there he knocked over several bar stools and skid along the bar table. The sounds of breaking wood mixed with grunts could only let Giran assume that whatever happened to Tomura was quite painful.
One tiny speck of blood was found where the warp gate closed. Kurogiri felt Giran's eyes lock on him. Avoiding looking back at Giran he chose to look down at Tomura, who was halfway curled into the fetal position on the floor. The boy coughed twice, the first cough being spit and the second cough being that mixed with blood.
The floor near Shigaraki Tomura was now painted a crimson color, and the painter left wheezing in pain. Shigaraki tried to stand, but was brought down on his knees by the pain.
"The hell happened to him?" Giran asked, his eyes wide and holding a cigarette between his fingers.
"You are still here?" Kurogiri said, finally commenting on the man's presence.
"I was actually just about to leave, but here you come in with Tomura looking like he got in a fist fight with a gorilla."
Tomura wheezed in pain. Finally he was able to stand up and walk to the bar, which he used to lean against. "Shut up. Or I'll kill you."
"Sorry man," Giran replied with a nervous chuckle. "Well, I'll get going."
Shigaraki huffed in pained as he and Kurogiri watched Giran exit the bar. Just as he shut the door behind him the television in the room came to life. Static filled the screen briefly before the screen went white and a voice came through.
"Tomura, what happened?" He asked with what appeared to be concern.
"Master, everything went wrong!" Tomura shouted through pain. "All Might wasn't there and everyone we brought there was useless...! Then there was this girl..."
His master's end was silent for a brief moment. He was left wondering who could have put his pupil in such a pitiful state, to be left barely alive but still conscious enough to speak clearly.
"Tell me about her?" The master asked, concern shifting to curiosity.
"She was fast," Shigaraki explained. "She had this ability to teleport around and punched me straight in my stomach-" he was cut off as he finished by a small coughing up of blood.
"If I may interject?" Kurogiri offered.
The man on the other side of the screen hummed slightly before making a decision. "I'll send an associate of mine to heal Tomura's wounds. Meanwhile... Kurogiri, explain. I'll not pain Tomura any more."
"Sir, she has a high speed teleportation quirk, and likely has some passive mutations from one of her parents. The most notable passive mutation would be highly increased strength. It is either that, or a single quirk that grants passive abilities. She had sent Shigaraki flying backwards several dozen feet with a single punch."
"Is that all?" The master asked further.
"No. Her fighting style was rather aggressive and ruthless. Several times she had attempted to kill the Nomu instead of subduing it. She had even done... well, you already know the state Shigaraki is in."
"I do..." the master replied.
Kurogiri could tell that his master was processing the information given. Kurogiri would have a hard time believing it as well, hearing about a hero more likely to kill a villain than capture them. How would you even deal with a hero like that? A hero so aggressive that you have a higher risk of dying than being arrested.
The master spoke once more after the short silence. "Interesting, truly. A hero willing to kill, and one who is only still a child? Who is she?"
"We are unsure," Kurogiri responded. "Though we do have a last name spoken by her teacher. It's Shihouin."
"Did anyone else hear that?" Yoruichi asked the crowd around her.
Todoroki and Asui looked at her strangely, and Izuku and Aizawa instead focused on getting back to the main entrance of the U.S.J. complex.
"Hear what?" Todoroki asked.
"Just me then?" Yoruichi questioned.
Both Asui and Todoroki shrugged slightly in response. Then she heard the noise again. It was a distant and shrill howl that tore through the sky, very reminiscent of a hollow. In fact, it sounded exactly like a hollow's howl.
It came just north-east of the U.S.J. and didn't repeat itself for another few minutes. When it came again, it sounded uncomfortably closer than last time.
"Alright, well, I say we wrap this up fast and get out of here!" Yoruichi exclaimed, doing her best to hide her rising anxiety. "No point in hanging around any longer than we need to."
Yoruichi used Shunpō to reach Izuku instantly and grabbed Aizawa's other side. "I got him from here," Yoruichi hurriedly said. "Go find and round up the other students."
Even though she didn't mean to, it sounded more like an order than a request. Izuku stuttered before replying, "On it! I-I'll go find the others and tell them it's over!"
Izuku then ran off into the squall zone of the arena. "Be fast! I'll join you in a few seconds!" She shouted before disappearing for two seconds to see having carefully dropping her teacher off at the entrance. In less than a second she reappeared back in the center of the complex.
"Todoroki-kun, Tsu-chan, you guys do the same in the other areas. I'm headed off to the mountain zone. Bye!"
Before either of them could respond, Shihouin had vanished from sight and into the mountain zone. Todoroki was unable to open his mouth until a few seconds after she left.
"Wai-... damn it."
"Todoroki-kun," Asui had spoken out, grabbing the young boy's attention. "Do you think Shihouin-san is okay?"
"You're asking about her hearing things and then turning into whatever she is now?" Todoroki asked in confirmation, getting a nod from Tsu in response. "Yeah, I think it's a bit strange. She's not the best at hiding it, but could be worse. She's acting a bit strange."
Asui croaked a loud "ribbit" as her reply. "The teachers are already headed out anyway, so wouldn't we only be getting in the way?"
"I suppose we would," Todoroki agreed. "I'd like to drag Shihouin back with us, but we'd only be making the pros work harder to keep us safe."
Conversing a tad bit more, everyone came to the conclusion to head back to the entrance of the U.S.J. and wait for Shihouin to get rescued by the heroes. She may be able to hold her own with her quirk alone, but she lacked the experience that the pros had.
For Izuku, he'd get chewed out eventually. Even Todoroki thought Izuku was smarter than to just run off like he did. He was too far now, so there was no point in dragging him back with them.
Asui grabbed Mineta by the leg with her tongue and flung him at the entrance. After that she followed behind Todoroki back to the bus, so the heroes could do their jobs.
The mountain zone was a mess. It was littered with the bodies of unconscious or pained villains. There were too many to count, so all's Yoruichi could do was guess their number. She'd be wasting her time in doing so, so she wouldn't bother counting or guessing at all.
She stood at the highest point of the zone to scout the area below. Yoruichi could see Uraraka, Aoyama and Sero at the far end of the zone making their way to the center. Just at the edge of the zone that bordered onto the urban disaster zone were Kaminari, Momo and Jiro, who were making their way through the urban zone.
Just before she set off to gather the trio of stragglers she heard a explosion set off on the opposite side of the mountain. Then she felt it. It was like a tiny tremor that vibrated through the ground, but large enough to cause a landslide. What's worse was that the aforementioned trio were at the base of the mountain. Any landslide could either, at worse, kill them or, at best, impede their progress.
For now Shihouin's attention was shifted to the explosion. The fact that another one hadn't come around yet was mildly concerning.
In a quick usage of Shunpō she relocated herself to the area where she believed the explosion to be. There, she found dozens of unconscious villains and a very exhausted and alone classmate.
Bakugo.
He was sitting on the ground and propped up against a rock. He was seen grabbing the injured side of his abdomen and had his hand sticking out towards Shihouin.
"Bitch!" He shouted as he unleashed his quirk on Shihouin.
Her eyes widened as she used her speed to dodge the blast to appear next to Bakugo. "If I didn't know better I'd think you were mad at me for something."
Bakugo said nothing and grit his teeth.
"I'm taking you to the entrance. Let's go-"
"Don't touch me! I can do this on my own-"
"Don't care," Yoruichi interrupted. "Let's go."
As fast as she spoke Bakugo found himself back at the U.S.J. entrance. Among the students were Asui, Todoroki, Tokoyami, Midoriya, Mineta and a handful of others.
"You only found Bakugo?" Todoroki asked Shihouin.
"No, I found Uraraka, Sero, and Aoyama. I just grabbed him first because I was worried his quirk would cause a landslide."
It was Asui's turn to speak, beginning with a loud "ribbit" before starting. "Shihouin-san, I think it would be best to let the heroes do the rest of the work. We would only get in their way if we got involved further. Ribbit."
"Is that why you guys aren't rounding up the rest? We're already waist deep in. We may as well round ourselves up and let the heroes throw caution to the wind."
"Heroes don't-" Asui began, being cut off by Shihouin disappearing again.
"It's best we don't bother anymore," Shouto commented. "She won't be saying that when the heroes have to rescue her."
Back in the mountain zone Yoruichi stood high up in the air where she could see everyone but not be seen by anyone else. She saw the previous trio from before and could even see into the squall zone and anyone fighting on the zone borders.
Momo's group had began to make it towards the central plaza, Uraraka's group looked slightly lost, while most of the rest were scattered apart alone or in pairs. Deciding Momo, Denki and Jiro would be fine.
Uraraka's group was still a bit far off from the center, but had began to make more progress than before. With Bakugo no longer making explosions large enough to cause a landslide they were safe from the potential environmental danger.
Summarizing all the information in her mind, Yoruichi acknowledged that everyone was safe. But just to be safe she decided to speed up the process. There's no telling how many there were and how big they are. The fight could also carry on to the U.S.J. building.
Starting with the three she had her eyes on right then she used her flash step to appear right in front of them. Ochako and her group were startled initially, with the gravity girl throwing a panicked punch at Shihouin's face. Yoruichi caught the easily and bent Uraraka's wrist upwards, only enough to cause mild discomfort.
"Sorry about that," Shihouin said, releasing Uraraka's hand. "Aoyama-kun, grab onto Sero-kun's arm. Sero you grab onto Uraraka. Uraraka grab onto me."
Without question, knowing exactly why she wanted them to do what she asked, they did as she ordered. The moment Shihouin felt the back of her suit being grabbed, she used Shunpō to get them to the front of the U.S.J., then went back to her mountain zone perch.
Next she spotted Tokoyami alone. Quickly she rushed to him and did the same to him as she did with Uraraka, Sero and Aoyama. Constantly she would repeat this process until all her class was safe at the entrance.
Once finished, some of the heroes had begun to rally with the students. With them was Present Mic, Snipe and Ectoplasm. In any normal circumstance she would feel as if her class was safe with the heroes, but this time not so much.
If she heard the sounds of more criminals on the horizon then she would let the teachers do their thing. If it were criminals, she would feel more at ease. But these noises she heard were not the sounds of help for their purse was being stolen, or random gunfire that traveled across the distance.
She heard it again. A loud, echoing howl, sending a harrowing feeling through the Shinigami's back. The sound almost like a fully hollowed out flute with only a handful of uncovered holes.
Before the teachers could begin to heard the students back on the bus she left.
"Where did Shihouin go?" Momo asked.
"Probably to get more of the class," Kaminari chimed in.
"But..." Everyone heard Kirishima say. Everyone's already here."
"Now that I have that out of the way..." Shihouin began. "I can handle the Hollows."
Currently she was a few hundred meters away from the U.S.J., who's tip just began to fade out in the distance. Doing her best to focus on the dense reishi environment, she began to track the position of each hollow.
There were four.
And one was right below her. Shihouin looked down just in time to see a serpentine hollow about to chomp on her feet. Using Shunpō to get out of the way and behind the hollow. All's it took was one strong punch to the back to split the spirit in half. It's back end immediately disintegrated, leaving only it's top half intact.
Approaching its front, she got ready to strike. One more punch to the mask and it disappeared fully.
The next hollow was much louder than the first, feeling brazen enough to blindly rush after Yoruichi than taking a more careful approach. Just as it reached the bottom of her feet, she raised her leg to stomp on the hollow's face, cracking the mask but not breaking it fully. It was still fully intact and not broken off. The moment the hollow was in the trees below, she used Shunpō to get behind her target, but was interrupted by a hidden third, who jumped off a nearby tree, to throw her across the forest.
Before she could reorient herself properly, she could a solid object smacking her into the ground. Shihouin hit the dirt with a loud thud, upturning large portions of the earth.
She was laying down on the ground in a dizzy state from the two different attacks that were barely a few seconds apart. As she began to stand back up she could see the three remaining hollows close in. The one who attacked her blindly and with a cracked mask. Another had the appearance of a cicada and was producing an ear-ringing noise as it rubbed its wings together. The final one was a quadrupedal hollow with legs on each corner of its body, with no arms but a long thick tail coming from the back of it.
The first one she targeted was the hollow with a cracked mask. Using Shunpō to quickly appear in front of the spirit, she delivered a quick blow to the mask, splitting it in half and forcing it to dissolve away.
The hollow with the tail made an attempt to attack her first, but was too slow. Instead Shihouin carefully ducked below the tail which wound up hitting the cicada hollow. The cicada hollow did an decent job of absorbing the shock of the tail strike and was sent flying into the trees beside them.
Shihouin closed the distance between the tailed hollow and herself, annihilating it immediately with a single strike. The only hollow left had hid itself within the trees, hoping to erase itself from her sight for the only the briefest moment. While she could not see the hollow, she could see the bright red glow erupting from the direction she last saw the spirit. Even base level hollow's aren't that stupid. It wasn't even flanking from a new position.
Her eyes wandered to the direction of the red glow and soon she vanished from the area quickly. The hollow, who wasn't even that far into the forest from its original position, was never given the chance to either dispel or use its cero. The Shinigami it was targeting appeared right in front it, placing her hand on the cero and slowly and forcefully shrinking it with strength combined with reiryoku. Eventually the cero was smaller than a ball and Shihouin clasped her hand around it, crushing it in her hand. With her newly made fist she struck forward and smashed the hollow head on, splitting it in two down the middle.
Slowly, the spirit fizzled away and turned to dust. She paused for a moment and listened to her surroundings. Yoruichi heard nothing. The whole forest was quiet, as well as the area surrounding it.
Sighing in relief, she flash-stepped away to catch up with everyone else. Despite how quick she attempted to be her absence would obviously be noticed by her teachers and classmates. It would be best for her to make up a lie convincing enough to believe. Or perhaps she could tell the truth and place heavy sarcasm on every word.
Regardless, she was wasting time thinking over it. It would be best to leave now.
The students of 1-A had been let out early as a result of the U.S.J. attack. They had also been given the rest of the school week off to help calm down from the events.
While the students were at home, the teachers had congregated in the meeting office. With Nezu at the head of a 'U' shaped table and the rest of the teachers at various other points, he felt the need to speak first.
"It's hard to believe we've had two security breaches in only the first month of the school year," he said, hands clasped together and his gaze wandering around the room.
"Seeing what we saw then, I think we can rule out Shihouin as a rat," said Nemuri who had taken a more professional demeanor compared to her public personality.
"Why are you assuming someone's a traitor?" Asked snipe who sent the X rated hero a glance from inside his gas mask.
"According to Aizawa, they were there to kill All Might. In order for them to be there for that exact reason they would have needed to get their hands on a schedule."
"That does make sense," said Ectoplasm immediately after Midnight finished.
Midnight had nodded her head in response. "As I mentioned before, I would have thought it was her given her absence on the day of the main campus break in. After today though..."
Midnight's silence hung heavy over the room. It was obvious to everyone what she was trying to talk about, but it was hard for her to get it out of her mouth. Everyone saw the video footage and how tame she was with the fodder villains, yet when it came to who they assumed to be their leader she shed no tears over him. And the amount of his blood that was covering her face was concerning. They were afraid she may have killed him.
"When the students come back next I will pull her into my office," said Nezu. "I'll talk to her about her actions and get to the bottom of the issue."
"O-okay then," One of the teachers reluctantly agreed.
"Aizawa-kun, you said you faced their leader, correct? Shigaraki was his name?"
"Correct," Aizawa confirmed. "He had some kind of disintegration quirk. He grabbed ahold of my elbow when I wasn't looking and burned through most of the skin." Aizawa held up the bandaged arm above the table, letting the other teachers see. "It wouldn't surprise me if he was the one who caused the security breach the other day."
"It's entirely possible," Yagi agreed. "What about the other two?"
"Nomu and Kurogiri," Said a different teacher, Anan Kurose. "Nomu was the physically strongest out of all of them. He seemed to have no thought process other than to carry out the orders given to him. He was extraordinarily physically capable and very durable. Shihouin blew off his head once, mangled his arms and legs multiple times and even bisected him at the waist, but he just kept regenerating. He escaped with Kurogiri and Shigaraki."
"Speaking off..." Aizawa spoke up next. "Compared to Shigaraki, who acted like a smaller child compared to my students, Kurogiri carried himself very formally. He had a warping quirk that let him transport hundreds of villains at a time. Though we don't know if it has a range limit or if they were on the opposite side of the country when they arrived. He seems to be the most competent of the three despite not being in charge."
"He also had a decent enough ability to use his quirk for combat," Anan commented. "I tried to suck him away with my quirk, but he opened a warp gate behind me and... I ended up being saved by one of the students, Shihouin."
"Well..." Nezu said, clasping his hands together. He looked around the table at all the teachers present, looking at each one carefully. "I think that's enough for today. Aizawa-kun, Kurose-chan, I hope you both have a swift recovery!"
Immediately he finished all the teachers began to stand from their seats. Cementos assisted Aizawa up from his seat, while Anan seemed to have a much easier time due to her injury location.
None of them spoke to each other as they left the room to go home. Yagi was the last to leave the room. When he knew all the other teachers were gone he pushed his back against the wall and slowly slid the floor.
"Thank god," He sighed, looking up at the ceiling. Thankful for Midoriya's safety, his student's safety, and Shihouin's position between Yagi and him.
Bakugo sat quietly in his hospital bed next to his mother and father, the former of the two chatting with his doctor. Seven broken bones, all of which were in his ribs, small amounts of internal bleeding and a fractured manubrium; that was his diagnosis.
He'd be out of commission for the month, but if recovery girl made regular enough visits he could go back to class by the end of the week so long as he stays out of combat class. He laid down on his hospital bed staring at the mounted tv, but not paying attention to what was on the screen. The only thing distracting him from his injuries were the events of yesterday.
Pinning down a villain was the highlight of the day, but after that it was all shit. Getting punched across the entryway by Nomu and being subsequently saved by Shihouin. Getting scattered across the U.S.J. surrounded by villains, which he thought would be his time to shine by showing the heroes he didn't need help, then being saved by Shihouin once more. Being treated like fragile glass by the U.A. staff that rushed him out of the building the moment they got there. Herded into the back of an ambulance only thirty minutes later.
He clenched his hands into fists and unconsciously activated his quirk. Small sparks came out of the palms of his hands from the tiny opening they could squeeze out of. His once focused countenance shifted to anger quickly. The only thing to take him out his angry trance was a smack to the back of his head.
"Knock it off!" His mother shouted.
"Shut it, hag!" He shouted back.
Despite his outburst he did listen to his mother. He stopped using his quirk and focused back onto his thought, which seemed to calm her down only slightly. His mind still wandered back to Shihouin, even though he wished it didn't.
From what he heard between icy-hot and frog face she disappeared after all the student's rallied back to the entrance. All because she "heard something", like some kind of paranoid schizo. Apparently she also tried to kill Nomu, but had zero luck. No shit she'd have no luck, the thing was strong enough to send him flying.
And then he thought about it more.
She tried to kill him, but failed. Which would imply she was strong enough to damage it. When she arrived to drag him back to the rest she was drenched in blood and was still standing and operating normally. No visible injuries would mean the blood on her wasn't her's.
He may not be any fucking Sherlock, but maybe the reason she failed was because they escaped before she could finish the deed. It's basic knowledge that if a hero kills a villain they have every opportunity to restrain it would still qualify as murder. This would result in an arrest and a loss of their license. They were taught all of this on day one. Although in her defense, which he did begrudgingly, there was no way in hell anyone but All Might could restrain that thing. But if she could seal enough damage to it to be covered in Nomu's blood, then she could restrain it too.
She could 'restrain' it... he could barely take a punch from it. If she could have immobilized it, she could have probably easily taken a hit from it and still stand. He couldn't.
He seethed at the mere thought of it. Was she just that much stronger than him, or was he that much weaker than her? Was it both?
AN: Like I said, shorter chapter. I just wanted to eject this from my files as fast as I could.
Just to go over a few things for the impatient ones. I didn't forget, I'm just a bit burnt out and very lazy. I'm also working on a bunch of new fics as well (I've also been binge-playing the whole GoW series). No I am not dead (yet).
Replies:
Witness Of Fate: Dingdingding! Correct!
Sacke110: I was also on the fence about turning her into a kid, but I did it because I felt like I could have the most fun writing her in that sort of environment. Yoruichi wasn't even my first choice of character even! It was Chad!
Also to an earlier review. Her abilities have been self nerfed. The only reason why her speed may seem slightly slower is because I actually have no clue how fast she is. I did 3 days worth of research and found nothing, so I just went with what I thought was accurate. But as we get further in her absolutely broken speed will become more and more apparent.
Artem-Abramov-2014: I have not been following the manga as of late. Like I said, God of War series has been my sole focus. I would love to catch up at some point though.
NotXeno: Thank you for the rather extensive review and no it's not sarcasm, it's just really long. Also thanks for the fav! As I have mentioned in previous reviews, I'm not touching shipping for as long as I can. Because 1: I'm shit with writing romance, 2: I don't like writing romance, and 3: Yoruichi, chronologically, is several centuries old. There is no way to pair with anyone in the class without it looking creepy.
This may change, but don't bet on it. Please.
Ultima-Owner: Depending on how I decide to take this story, you might not at all be surprised then.
Spellweaverdrive: Thanks for the reminder about the Nomu's brains. In response to everything else, there was a lot going on that I wanted to do that I even got lost at some points. Going back in and editing all of it to get something mildly coherent was a bit difficult. Regardless, thank you for your review and I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter.
