She came in suddenly unannounced, becoming quite aware that the mood of the room had become drastically stiff. All eyes fell upon her as she began to walk towards him, her eyes beckoning his full attention. Slowly he found himself walking towards her; his senses were screaming for him to stop and rationalize the moment at hand, yet his heart potently urged him forward.
"You're here" he stated breathlessly.
"I'm here"
"Can I ask why?"
She paused for a moment.
"I have no right to be, I'm sorry" with that she turned and walked away.
"Jess, turn around man, forget her, forget it all" a tall blonde haired man stated as Jess continued to stare at her retreating back.
"Jess, was that that girl?" a petite woman with curly black hair asked. He turned to face her and his gaze fell on the simple yet elegant engagement ring he had picked out himself, which now sat content on the finger of his bride to be.
"Yeah, that was that girl" he answered softly.
The woman turned her attention away and began chatting with some of the guests about how tasteless and stupid it was of her to show up.
"Excuse me" Jess said as he stood up from the table and walked to the lobby.
"Where's he going?" Jess' fiancé asked, whose name was Heather Lin.
"Rory! Wait!" Jess called out after her. Walking slowly towards him he was surprised to see a soft smile play at her lips.
"What are you doing here? How did you find me?" Jess asked still quite stunned at her appearance.
"Luke, he, he told me, well he mentioned you were getting married somewhere in New York so I kinda.." Rory said, suddenly stumbling over her words like an awkward teenager again.
"You kinda pulled a P.I. on me?" Jess asked amused.
"You could say that" she replied, surprised at his calmness concerning the issue.
"You're smiling" Jess stated bluntly.
"Were you expecting something else?" Rory questioned, her brow raised.
"Well, usually when one invades their ex's rehearsal dinner they come prepared with cutting words and melancholy appearances, but not you, why?" Jess asked, running his hand through his hair.
"I don't have the right to come to you like that, I don't have the right to be here right now either, not after what I did to you" Rory answered, becoming increasingly fascinated with her shoes.
"Rory, that was three years ago, I'm fine" Jess stated.
"Well I'm not" Rory replied, lifting her gaze to meet his.
"Jess man! Come on what's going on?!" the blonde haired man shouted from the door to the restaurant.
"I'm coming!" Jess responded.
"Go, she's waiting" Rory stated, brushing the hair from her face.
"Ror," Jess replied, the desperate tone shining through.
"This was a mistake, did I really expect you to suddenly cancel your wedding the night before just because I showed up?! I'm sorry, congratulations Jess, I wish you and your fiancé the best," Rory stated as she walked away, again.
