A farewell dance, only one last moment to remember before the reality of his life came and swept him away from this place that he'd come to only a short year ago. Now he was standing here, holding her in his arms. She was so close, but in the end---out of reach as he traveled down the road to face his responsibilities.

All she could hope was that life really did come in cycles. That everything that had happened would some how re-wrap itself and he'd come back to her. That he'd show her his eyes and give her his soul as he had not a summer ago. She didn't want to let go, but when the time came the tears flowed as fast as she could run from the spot where they stood saying their last goodbyes.

A conversation with him she somehow knew would be her last. She wasn't that stupid. She could see it in his eyes. He had to go, had to run away from everything that this place reminded him of. The friend and brother he'd lost. She didn't blame him but it still hurt all the same.

Goodbyes were never his specialty. He'd had to say goodbye to this friend before. Long ago, last summer barely after it all began. Before he'd learned to come out of his shell, before he'd given him a piece of himself. He'd dared to get out of his shelter and now he saw how wrong he'd been. He thought it was safe, just for a second but now he realized this place was not. This place was dead to him, and so all he could do was sail into the distance and leave it all behind him.
