Disclaimer: Let's play a game, a game called pretend you didn't know that I
don't own Dawson's Creek. Having fun? I'm not.
A/N: Thank ya'll for the reviews, I appreciate it a lot. Thank you Pixie for the advice *about* getting reviews. This is of course my 11th chap, so I'm hoping to speed things up a bit. Anyway, read on party people.
Dark clouds completely filled the sky. The early morning had started off just as dark, but the sun had came out giving false hope that there was going to be a sunny day. It looked like rain was coming, so all the kids stayed in and did in-door activities. One of the older counselors (and also Cameron's partner in crime) Jason, had just arrived a day ago. He also looked as if he was in his mid twenties. He sat next to her arranging different color paint into different color buckets for the kids to do something unspecified with. Glitter and paintbrushes were set aside on a table full of crafts. For now the kids were doing a test on bugs and nature to see how much they learned on those nature walks. All of the teen counselors were free to roam.
Pacey walked around the very same meadow that just yesterday, everyone there was wondering around freely. He loved that feeling, he wanted to feel it again so he roamed around the meadow that had became dark because of the cloud cover. It wasn't much fun alone so he headed to the doc that Joey had introduced him to not long before. Sub-consciously he knew the real reason he was going was to see if Joey was there. She wasn't. He made his way back to camp and stopped suddenly. He noticed the road was just behind him leading to god knows where. He hadn't been to far from capeside in his entire life. He walked back to the road forgetting that there was a world out there that for the past two weeks he had somehow managed to forget about. He knew that there was a store not to far down the road. *What I wouldn't do for a friggin' candy bar right now* He thought to himself. *Or one of those little egg rolls. Pacey loves the egg rolls.* He thought again only half serious. But he did want to hit that corner store, after all it wasn't really that far. It was decided, he was all out of junk food. *They won't miss me* He thought.
Andie was laying on her stomach re-reading Moby Dick for the fifth time. Jen wasn't in the cabin, and Joey was sitting on the bed painting her toe nails with Jen's nail polish. Andie looked up at Joey somberly, but her face lit up once she saw Joey messily painting her toes.
"What are you doing?" She asks laughing.
"Painting my toe nails...what does it look like I'm doing."
"Well I never took you for the toenail painting kind of gal that's all. Who's nail polish?"
"It's Jen's, and you know it. I can't help it, I'm bored out of my wits here."
"Well. You're doing it all wrong. I have some toe separators in my bag, want em?"
"What-a-rators?"
"I'll get them."
"No it's fine I'm done."
"Ok." She says lying back down on the bed.
"What time do you have?"
"Um...11:45."
"Good lunch is coming up in 15."
"What's the cheerfulness about? The lunch here bites."
"Tell that to the chef."
"I would but we're not exactly on speaking terms."
"Right. It's just...never mind."
"Let me guess, you think I'm stupid for breaking up with Pacey too right."
"Ye--no. I'm sure you know what you're doing, it's none of my business."
"You've been talking to him, is he still upset?"
"How did you know I was--
Before the sentence comes out fully, someone knocks on the screen door. Joey gets up before Andie can and opens the door. Pacey is standing there smiling massively.
"What do you want?" She asks smiling.
"Who is it Joey?" Andie asks not being able to see with Joey's head blocking view. Not to mention the door was half open thanx to Joey unconsciously pulling it closed as she walks out.
"It's Pacey." She says fully walking out.
"What does he want?"
"What *do* you want?" She asks still smiling. But his smile fades as he hears the sound of Andie's voice.
"Um..I just wanted you to come with me to the store."
"The store?"
"The store."
"What store?"
"The store not to far down the street."
"How do you know there's a store."
"I just do. Now would you get your butt in gear and lets go."
"Let me get my raincoat, I think it's gonna rain."
"Ya think?" He asks walking off of the porch.
Joey makes her way back into the cabin. Andie stares at her confused.
"What?" She asks noticing the look.
"What are you doing Joey?"
"What do you mean what am I doing?"
"With Pacey I mean--what's going on between you two?"
"Nothing. He just wants me to walk to the store with him."
"How come...oh yeah, we're not on speaking terms."
"Well I'm gone."
"Wait Joey. Here's my raincoat."
"You always think ahead." She says smiling and grabbing the rain coat.
"He's really vulnerable right now whether he'll admit it or not, so watch over him Joey."
"O-ok." She says turning around putting the hood on and heading out.
"What's with the hood home girl? It isn't raining *yet*."
"You never know when a surprise drizzle will come along."
"What were you and Andie talking about in there?"
"Nothing, just girl-talk, you couldn't understand."
"Right, let's just hurry and get to the store before it really starts to storm out here alright?"
"Fine." She says as they begin heading off the camp site. **************************************************
Jen was sitting on the porch of the main cabin with Jack trading cd's.
"I'll trade you my Fiona Apple...for your Magic Kingdom." She says handing him her cd.
"I don't think so."
"Why not? Is Fiona Apple not of your standards?"
"I'm not giving up my cranberries for some slow tempo chic rock." He says giving the cd back."
"You suck Jack Mcphee."
"That's right and you're still not getting my cd."
"I'm only going to have it for like a day or two."
"Fine."
He gives her the cd and gets up holding his hand out helping up.
"What time does it say on your watch Jack?"
"12:00 on the dot."
"Lunch time." She says in a sing-song voice.
"Yay." He says wryly beginning to walk toward the cafeteria. Jen follows. ************************************************
Pacey and Joey are still trekking down the road. Pacey just looks down at the ground in his own world. If he wasn't, he would have notices Joey staring at him pointedly.
"Pacey!"
"Huh what?" He says looking up at her.
"Just around the corner huh? It seems like we've been walking for at least an hour Pacey!" She says folding her arms and rolling her eyes.
"First of all, I thought it *was* just around the corner but still, it can't be two far. Second of all, we've only been walking for like 15 minutes at the most Potter so cool your jets."
"Shut up." She says narrowing her eyes. "Where were you anyway?"
"When?"
"Just now when you weren't talking to me for like five minutes whole."
"I was just thinking about this dream I had about you."
"What kind of dream?"
"The kind where--oh wait, here we are!" He exclaims pointing at the gas station they were approaching.
He grabs her hand and runs to the doors. He opens the door and gestures for her to enter first. She does and he follows. The store is pretty deserted, but they continue on down the candy aisle.
"Junk food!" he cheers.
"How much money do you have?" She asks skeptically.
"I have a five finger discount."
"What?!"
"I'm kidding Potter, I have 25 bucks solid."
"And you plan to spend it all on junk?"
"Of course not. I want egg rolls too." He says going to the counter.
Joey puts to M&M packets on the counter, along with two cherry cokes and two Pepsis. Pacey unloads 6 snicker bar, some random mini gum candies, and some bags of chips.
"So are we trying to feed the world Joey or just your face?"
"I got the cokes for Jen and Andie and the Pepsi for me."
"Uh huh, and the M&Ms?" "Mine."
"Both packets?"
"We're supposed to be stocking up right? Two is hardly enough, as matter of fact I think I'm going to go back and get more."
"No, it's uh fine. Just stay there and look pretty."
"Ha....ha."
"That'll be $8.94.." The young clerk says sighing.
"No problem. Hey so where can a guy get a decent egg roll around here?"
"Oh man you just missed em, we're all out."
"Damn. Well alright, could you just bag my stuff I'm kind of in a hurry."
"No prob man." The boy says bagging the stuff.
Pacey looks around the store gradually, suddenly getting an idea.
"Hey Jo?"
"Yes?"
"Why don't you go wait for me outside I forgot something.".
"What the entire box of snickers?"
"That, and something' else just go wait in the car alright."
The boy hands him the bags.
"Thanx man."
"See we have the stuff now can we just go?"
"Go wait outside Potter, jeez."
"Fine." She says walking out annoyed at the rise of his tone.
"That's a pretty fine lady you got there dude."
"Sure is." He says watching her leave.
"Oh dude, pay man."
"Huh? Oh right." He says realizing he hadn't paid for the stuff. He hands him a ten dollar bill. He gives him his change.
"So what did you forget man?"
"This..." He says walking toward a twelve pack of beer. He picks up the box and puts it on the counter.
"Healthy choice man. That'll be $4.30. Dude."
"Here you go." Pacey says nervously handing the guy a five. *Am I really gonna get away with this?* He questioned in his head.
"Alright have a sweet day man." The boy says smiling.
Pacey just picks the beer up and tries to hurry out of the store.
"Oh, do you want me to bag that for you or what?"
Pacey turns around suddenly before walking out. Slightly twitching.
"No thanks man I got it." He says half smiling.
"Alright. Have a kick ass day."
"You have a kick ass day too." He says grinning and finally leaving.
"It's about time." Joey says turning around facing him.
"Yeah well...
"Pace, what is that?" She asks interrupting him.
"What's what?" He asks walking ahead head of her swiftly.
"Uh uh Pacey, take that back now. No beer. You could get kicked out for that."
"Joey I can't."
"Why not?"
"Because the beer is none refundable."
"Liar."
"I tell you no lies. And let me tell you something Joey, if you think that I wasted my good money for this beer just to let it go to waste, then you've got another thing coming."
"Why did you buy it anyway Pacey?"
"Why are you hounding me about this."
"Because we're going to get in trouble."
"We?"
"Fine--fine you go on ahead and get yourself kicked out of camp."
"Thank you, you've actually done it."
"Done what?"
"Learned to mind your own business."
And with that he begins walking again headed back to the camp. Joey crosses her arms and starts walking too. ******************************************
The cafeteria was full. The sounds of the kids chatting it up echoed off the café walls. It seemed like everyone was talking the children, the counselors, and someone had a boom box playing random tunes while a couple of kids had a dance contest. Cameron and Jason were sitting in a corner at a small table talking. Since all the tables were full, all of the teen counselors sat together at one table.
Jen was sitting on the first seat at the table. Andie was sitting across from her on the other first seat of the table. Abby was to Jens left, Buffy was in the next seat, Jimmy was in the seat next to her, Chris was next to Jimmy, and Christy the kid was next to Chris. Lena was next to Andie, and Adam was next to Lena. All of them are talking at once, almost arguing.
"Chris, for the last time women do not have it easier than men." Buffy says aggravated.
"And you don't know what you're talking about."
"Can we please end this discussion, I'm getting a headache." Jen says equally annoyed.
"Fine."
"Fine."
"Hey guess what!" Christy says butting in.
"What?" Abby asks looking over noticing the red head for the first time.
"I want my money now." She says holding her hand out."
"Well you're just gonna have to wait sweetie, since no one has completed the bet." Abby says pouting.
"Still?! How hard can it be jeez, you get a guy and do it with him and bam the game is over." She says returning to her plate." And Jen I put twenty bucks on you."
"Yes I remember it well." Jen says embarrassed that everyone at the table was hearing all of this.
"She knows about the bet too???" Chris asks taken aback.
"What bet?" Jimmy asks cutting in.
"What you weren't here?" Christy asks laughing." Jen and Joey--"
"Ok twerp, I think it's time you go over and have some fun with some kids your own age k?" Jen says leading the girl to another table.
"What bet???" Jimmy asks again.
"Just eat you carrots." Buffy says tiredly. ************************************
Pacey and Joey makes it back to the camp 20 minutes before lunch is up. The walk back seemed shorter than the walk up to the store. But it didn't matter because neither one has talked to each other since the mini argument they'd had earlier. Joey headed toward her cabin, while Pacey was going to the cafeteria.
"Where are you going?" He asks suddenly feeling a drizzle of rain.
"To the cabin, I don't really feel like eating in the cafeteria today.
"But...fine whatever. Well, you can at least give Jen and Andie their sodas."
"Right. So are you going to be drinking that entire twelve pack by yourself."
"Not if any one wants any." He says giving her a look.
"Whatever." She says going to the cafeteria.
Pacey turns around and goes off to find a good place to drink. **************************************************************************** *********
