A/N: This is the 14th installment of Witchita Creek. It's been a while since I've updated, because I was kinda writing another fic. But I'm back to finish what I began, so let's get the party started riight. Thank you guys for previous reviews I appreciate it vary vary much. Now, on with the show.
Joey awoke stretching her arms, yawning, and wiping her eyes. She placed her feet on the floor lightly hoping not to wake Jen or Andie. It was too late for that, because Jen was already up in the mirror applying some mascara to her eyes. Joey tucked her hair behind her ear and rose out of the bunk slowly. Jen pretended as if she didn't see the somewhat lofty gal get up. She finally broke the uncomfortable silence, by sighing loudly.
"Good Morning, Joey." She began pleasantly.
"Good morning." Joey replied searching under her bed for something.
"What are you looking for?"
"My other sock."
"Oh."
(pause)
Jen turned away from the mirror and stared at Joey until the brunette took notice and returned the stare.
"Is...there...something...wrong?" Joey asked narrowing her eyes.
"What's your purpose of publicly expressing, your apparent new found love for Pacey Witter?"
"Excuse me???" Joey asked breaking whisper. Andie twisted and turned moaning incoherently.
"Don't get offensive Joey, I'm not trying to situate myself in your business or anything, especially since Andie is right here. I'm just preparing you for the paparazzi you're going to face once you step out that door, because I'm not the only one who witnessed the display of affection.
"Well, thanks Jen, but I think I can handle it." Joey replied picking up her other sock from under her sheet.
"Looks like you found it."
"Yeah, looks like I did."
That being the last thing said, Jen broke the stare down and walked out of the cabin. Joey just stood there for a second, then put on her other sock. Pacey left one of the boys' cabin with a handful of candy he'd found stuffed in places he didn't understand.
"I'm just gonna confiscate this stuff. You guys know better than this!" He yelled as they moaned and groaned over their lost treasures. Jack walked up giving Pacey a look.
"What??"
"Where'd you get all that freakin' candy?" Jack asked chuckling.
"It's not mine dufus. Children of the corn in there, snuck it in."
"Oh. So what are you going to do with it?"
Pacey looked confused for a second then smiled.
Pacey and Jack sat on the Witchita dock, their feet swinging carelessly over the lake. Eating the candy.
"This is wrong." Jack began. "This is good." He said pointing to the candy." But this is wrong." He said laughing.
"As long as they're not rotting their teeth. Man, I feel like I just saved a kids life or something'."
"Yeah right." Jack replied to pacey's mock speech.
"Jack?"
"Yes??"
"Never mind."
"What is it?"
"Well, you know when we first came to camp?"
"Yeah."
"I over heard something from the girls bathroom."
"What, are they planning the apocalypse or something?"
"Something much more screwed up."
"Well..."
"It sounded like they were making a bet, as to who could lose their virginity first."
"No way."
"Yes way. And get this it was Abby--"
"There's a shock."
"Jen, Buffy, Lena, Andie--"
"You've got to be kidding me." Jack said suddenly being quiet after a quick flash back of when Jen had told him about the bet.
"And that's not the worst."
"What is the worst?"
"I believe...Joey's in this too man."
"Joey?"
"Yeah...Joey." Pacey replied sadly closing his eyes.
"And you two are together now, yeah?"
"Yeah."
"So...do you think she could be using you??" Jack asked feeling a little anger grow in his voice.
"I tried to dismiss thinking like that, but I can't help but wonder."
Everything grew quiet as Pacey went inside his thoughts. Jack sat uncomfortably for a while going inside his thoughts for a minute. would she use Pacey like she used me? He questioned in his thoughts. I've definitely gotta get some answers. He thought. Questioning himself on whether or not to ask Jen if she knew anything, or to confront Joey. Jack looked at Pacey, with a bit of worry on his face as Pacey's demeanor changed from cheerful to slightly depressed. They both sighed and placed their candy down. Suddenly, they didn't feel much like eating at the moment. Night had fallen yet again, and all of the campers sat outside the campfire watching as the flames swayed about with the wind creating a calm all around the area. Jason played his guitar as the children sang along to a cliché, made up camp song called 'Witchita Spirit'. Everyone was present except Joey who was no where to be found.
Abby, and Buffy made their way over to Jen, who was perched strategically on the side of Jason shooting him flirtatious grins.
"Jen!" Abby whispered piercingly.
"What??" Jen asked agitated not really interested in the question.
"What the hell is the deal with white trash and the delinquent son?"
"Who???"
"Joey and Pacey. Are they like a couple now or something?" Buffy asked grabbing Jen's attention.
"I don't know. Why don't you ask them." Jen replied returning her attention to Jason.
"Good idea." Abby remarked, smiling and walking over to Pacey.
"And how are you doing?" Buffy asked the still annoyed blonde.
"Huh?"
"With the bet, how are things going?"
"Well."
"How's about great?" Buffy asked with an attitude.
"I'm seeing him later on."
"Ooh. Good luck Jen." Buffy replied smirking. Pacey was laughing and talking to Jimmy when Abby approached. Pacey was seated on a chair so when she walked up he had to look up at the condescending girl. He just rolled his eyes and continued talking to Jimmy.
"So, Joey's your transitional girl? You work fast Witter."
"What are you babbling on about, Morgan?" Pacey asked exasperated then getting up, and walking over to the soda cooler.
"You and Joey. You guys are the hot new couple."
"Is that so?"
"Do I lie?"
"And who told you this?"
"You. When you practically tried to slob her down at the archery quad yesterday. Despite her advances."
"Is there a point sneaking around here somewhere?"
"How long have you two been at it?"
"That's really none of your business." Pacey replied idly, looking past the short schoolgirl and over at Joey who had just made her entrance.
"Well, well, well. Looks as if the notorious Imp, finally decided to grace us with her presence." Abby retorted following his dreamy gaze.
"This is just pathetic." She said angrily, then walked back over to Jen.
Pacey began to walk over to Joey.
"Jen you'd better have a plan because, Sid and Nancy over there are on there way."
"I have a plan."
"Care to share with the class?" Abby asked calming down.
"I'm going to him...tonight."
"Sounds like a plan. You better hope like hell it works." Pacey walked behind Joey and put his hands over her eyes for the second time that week.
"Guess who?" He whispered seductively in her ear.
"Hmm...is he tall?"
"Yes."
"Handsome?"
"Some would say hot--but yeah go on." He said smirking.
"Do I dig him?"
"You tell me." He said walking in front of her and letting go. Then kissing her. They stood there practically making out. Pacey could feel Joey pulling away. He sensed she was probably uncomfortable so he led her a little into the woods where they could be alone. His hands wrapped around her waist tightly squeezing her a little. She placed her fingers behind his neck and ears, digging into his skin a little. She moaned slightly, the moment growing intense until he pulled away.
"What--what is it?" She managed to whisper out.
"How come you didn't meet me yesterday?"
"When?"
"After I told you I wanted to see you."
"Oh you mean after our more than embarrassing encounter with half of the help watching?" She asked pulling away completely.
"Yeah, that."
"I didn't really feel all that up to it. I was too embarrassed, plus I got stuck with child duty. I had to take some of the new girls out for their first swim test."
"Oh." He smiled with relief.
"What did you think I was doing?"
"I thought you'd gotten bored with me is all." Pacey answered jokingly.
"Never." She replied kissing him again. He smiled at her ever-blush then kissed her back.
"We have to get back." She said snickering.
"But of course." He said motioning toward the path out of the woods. They began walking back.
Pacey didn't really ask the question he'd planned to ask her concerning the bet. For some reason a part of him was dying to know the answer but another part of him was too afraid to know. He liked how they were now. But he knew that he would eventually have to bring it up. Maybe another day He thought, as they made their way back to the peaceful fire.
