Notes: I just realized how LONG I've been lurking on my GW fics (pretty damn long…), and so decided to write a short little one shot. If enough people want me to, I'll continue it, but I've been working a lot, and I'm currently working on the fics posted on , so it may be a while.

As always, Read and Review, please!

Setting Sun

A one-shot

It was a lovely day; the sun was shining, the birds were singing, and Duo Maxwell was sitting, soaking it all in and allowing himself this one small luxury. At least, that's what the others would like to believe.

Duo was different, everyone knew that, just like everyone knew that you couldn't really reach the stars, the moon was a rock in the sky, and some day the light would go out from the sun. It was a fact of life, and it would never change. He allowed them to know it, just like he allowed them to know that he was a thief, and he allowed them to know he was an orphan, and he attempted to let them know that he was cursed with Death.

But, like all things, Duo had secrets. Secrets that he would not tell to anyone, for any reason what so ever.

Like the fact that he was gay. Homosexual.

A freak.

Of course, he reveled in that glory, the glory of the different, but he did not allow his preferences to show. The people of the colonies and Earth had grown steadily more intolerant of different, and he wasn't about to give OZ one more reason to kill him. One more reason for the colonists to hate him.

One more reason for them to be blinded from the truth.

And so he hid it, but didn't lie about it. If anyone asked, he told the truth, but he never approached anyone, and never tried to find another life mate.

Why? Because he had already found the person that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with.

And that person was dead.

Duo got up, stretching, slightly amused by the fact that even if the whole world knew, it would change nothing about the way he acted and the way he treated others. They might look at him differently, but he had already found his one true love in Solo, and now his love was gone.

He headed into the house with the Wing Gundam flying into the hanger overtop of him. He had been waiting for Heero to return. The others would be arriving shortly, but Heero was the only one he was worried about. He was the only one who wouldn't admit to being hurt, and wouldn't try to save his own skin if it put the mission at risk. Heero was the only one he really wanted to make a friend out of, partly because he believed Heero to be the only one capable of surviving his own curse, and partly for a reason he could not comprehend, and so chose to ignore.

Duo Maxwell was changing.

Well, in his own opinion the sun would set in the south before that happened.

And everyone knew that the sun didn't set.
