Waking Up, Chapter Thirty Six

.

.

.

The first thing Mynee felt when the infinite blackness began to disappear was a horrible feeling of wrongness and pain, far more intense

than even the shooting pain she got if she had not fed in a long time. She did not know then, but her spirit and that of her child were slipping back

into their bodies. A sharp, deep agony settled itself deep within her belly, effectively pushing her back into the cold darkness she had so recently

returned from.

Draco watched Mynee's still form blankly. He was still willing with all of his strength, even after over a month of her being gone, that she

would come back. He had taken his N.E.W.T.S, passing with flying colours despite his mental anguish, and had graduated top of the class, even

though he believed she would have been the best had she been there. He brushed his finger tips against one of her cheeks tenderly and was

startled when the muscle beneath her flesh quivered. He ripped his hand away and stared down at her, it quickly returning to check. There was no

movement and the momentary spark of hope that had flared within him was snuffed, leaving an even larger empty space in his heart. A quiet sob

caught in the back of his throat as he brought his palms up and cradled his face in them. It was not fair. There was the faint rustle of fabric in

front of him and he ripped his hands away from his head, his eyes widening slightly. Her previously still form had suddenly started writhing furiously

on the white cloth, very quiet moans of pain slipping from her half opened lips. It took him a moment for this to click in his mind, but when it did he

flew out of his chair. He grabbed one of her hands and held it tightly in his, all the while screaming for someone to come and help.

"Merlin! Somebody help! Please, anybody! We need help!" His voice was high pitched with his nerves.

Seconds later Madame Pomfrey slid into the room, her chest heaving as she tried to catch her breath. She looked at him and then down at the

bed, one of her hands flying up to press against her mouth. "Oh my...Stay here and keep her company! I will go get the Headmaster!" With that

she ran out again.

Draco, with his free hand, dragged his chair closer to her bed as he watched her avidly. His vision had narrowed so all he could see was her pain

clouded face and the need to start crying or shouting because he was unable to take away this horrible agony. He did not hear Dumbledore come

in and out of the corner of his eye he caught a glimpse of the elderly man taking hold of her other hand. It was then he let the tears collecting in

his hues fall freely down his wan cheeks.

"Is she coming back Professor?" His voice was faint.

"Yes, but...Never mind."

"But what? Tell me!"

The older one sighed quietly. "Her body might reject her and the child."

"W-What?? Why?"

"It has been empty for over a month, it has grown accustomed to being empty."

Draco bowed his head, trying to fight the salty droplets falling onto the thin blanket. If she did not come back his life would have no purpose and

he would join his love and child within the week. He gulped back his pain and suddenly her furious movements had stilled. His silvery blue eyes

searched her face for any sign of life and when nothing presented itself within a few moments, he dropped her hand.

"She's not coming back..."

Dumbledore leaned across the bed and gently patted his shoulder. "I am sorry Mr. Malfoy. She tried..."

The horrible pain molesting her body suddenly ended and Mynee found she was able to move. She was still for several minutes as she

waited for another onslaught, but was completely overjoyed when nothing more came. She cautiously opened her eyes, her lids sluggish as if they

had not been used in a very long time. Bright light assaulted her and a quiet groan slipped from her lips. Somebody stirred beside her and the light

disappeared as the person blocked the brightness with their body. A cracked voice spoke from somewhere above her.

"Hermione?"

She opened her mouth in an attempt to speak, but found an intense nausea had rooted itself in her belly. Her eyes flew open from their half closed

position as her stiff body lurched into a sitting position. Her body began to shake furiously as she searched fruitlessly for something she could

empty her rolling stomach into. The presence to her left must have sensed her discomfort because a vial of something that looking similar to an

Anti-Nausea Potion was thrust into her wandering hands. She ripped the stopper out and chucked the liquid into her mouth, a quiet sigh escaping

her lips as sickness disappeared, a pleasantly cool feeling left in its wake. The small glass bottle was taken out of her grip and she was finally able

to look about properly. On her left was a smiling Dumbledore and on her other side was an extremely nervous Draco. The moment Mynee registered

his presence, one of her hands rested against her stomach and she cowered slightly. He reached out to gently touch her cheek and she nearly fell

off the bed in an attempt to escape his fingers.

"You know Anne; it's not usually a good idea to dodge the caress of the man who loves you."

A quiet gasp slipped from her as she leapt off of her bed, quite a feat for someone who until moments before had been dead, and rushed over to

the other cot so she could cower behind the other Hermione. There was a definite connection between the two woman, something like a

mother/daughter bond.

"I know Ermine, but he didn't love me when I died. That couldn't have been more than a week ago."

The woman accepted the girl into her arms, one of her hands running through her slightly mussed reddish brown hair. "I understand what you are

saying, but he loved you when your child was conceived, correct?"

"Yes...But that was in March and he's told lots of girls in my year that he's loved them."

They seemed to be ignoring the two men less than a meter away from them. Ermine looked down into the brown eyes of the one in her arms she

suddenly considered a surrogate daughter.

"I do not know much about you or him yet, but due to the way he is looking at you right now, I'd say he still loves you...Is the baby okay?"

"How did you know about it?"

"A woman's intuition, pet."

Mynee let out a very soft giggle. "That's what I call my prey before I kill them."

"Really now? I shall have to remember to refer to you as that far more. You should go to him now."

'But it hurts to look at him. I remember everything he said to me when he broke up with me.' She, without even knowing, had reverted to mind

speech.

Ermine sighed quietly. 'Pet, he is the father of your child. You have to speak with him. Look at him, it seems like he's been sitting by your side since

you died.' She answered in the same way.

'Why would he do that?'

'Because he loves you, perhaps. Go.'

She nodded slowly and pulled out of the older woman's hold. She padded slightly unstably back to her own bed and settled herself atop it, her legs

tucked neatly beneath her bum.

"Draco." Her voice was emotionless.

Draco's silvery eyes refilled with tears at her tone and he reached out to cup her cheek in his palm. She flinched slightly when he touched her, but

did not pull away. "Hermione...I'm so sorry."

"You say that now after I died? How dare you speak to me again after what you did to me! I never said or did anything wrong to you and break my

heart! I shouldn't even be here with your right now!"

"What about our baby?" He murmured, a quaver of fear in his words.

"Our baby? Our baby?" Her voice cracked. "What have you done for this child apart from getting me pregnant with it?"

He was quiet for a moment. "At least I didn't kill it." After Ermine let out a very quiet gasp, the silence was deafening.

"How dare you..." She spat, her hand flying up out of her lap and hit him hard on the cheek.

The crack was clearly audible, though it barely soothed her rage.

Her eyes reflected her anger in all their crimson glory. "I thought I was doing the right thing. Do you know how unmarried witches with children are

looked down upon in wizarding society? It will be even worse for my child when it is born because its mother is muggleborn. I didn't want it to grow

up in a world like that! I wonder how many girls you've knocked up in the past three years." She said poisonously.

Draco sucked in a deep breath and was about to reply scathingly when Ermine decided, for the better of both fighting parties, to end this with a

little bit of mind manipulation. With a quick little twist of her power in both their heads, they blinked thickly several times before staring at each

other for several moments. As one they moved forward, pressing their lips together like it was their first kiss. In the back of Mynee's mind, she

knew that she had just been having a heated discussion with the man she still loved fiercely, but the prodding of her now mother figure rapidly

banished the thought. Dumbledore cleared his throat loudly, shaking the snogging couple out of their daze. Draco, who now through some bizarre

bit of movement, was sitting next to his love, kept a protective arm around her waist.

"I'm glad to see you two had made up, but I believe there is the subject of Miss Granger finishing up her education that we still need to speak

about." The female teen nodded her head slowly.

"So about a week has passed, can't I just take my N.E.W.T.S. along with everybody else?"

The elderly man chuckled quietly. "My dear, you were in Death for over a month."

"A month??" She squawked.

"Time flows differently in different realms Pet." Ermine cut in, walking closer to Mynee so she could gently touch her hand. "The process of arriving

and departing takes a lot of time."

She sighed. "So it is May now? May I take my N.E.W.T.S. soon? I believe I am prepared."

"Once the summer has started for the rest of the school, there will be time for you to take the tests. For now, I believe you should deliver Lady

Drakula back to her husband."

The said woman's eyes flared to a honey hue at the mention of her mate. "I would very much appreciate returning to the Castle, I've missed

Nikolas terribly."

Mynee leaned her head on Draco's shoulder and could not help but feel the want to curl up in the nearest bed with him, so she could just sleep.

But she knew her duty to her kind came first and she nodded weakly.

"I will accompany you back home Ermine."

"You make it sound as if you are my keeper. I hope mind traveling does not bother you, for that will be the quickest way."

The younger one shook her head. "Not at all, it is quite easy to do."

Ermine's eyes widened slightly. "You are able to do it too? I thought I was the only one..."

She snorted quietly. "After the slap Jacobitch gave me for saying I could do it, I'm only too proud to flaunt it to the woman who I supposedly

'disrespected' with my cheek."

She was rather surprised, in some far reach of her conscious that despite the exhaustion she was feeling, she was still functioning like she had

gotten a full night sleep. She shook herself slightly and slipped off of the bed, one of her hand resting on her still pretty flat stomach. A sudden

ripple of fear washed through her and she turned a terrified face up to Dumbledore. Now that she and Draco seemed to have made up, what if they

child she still loved with all of her heart was dead?

"Professor?" She nearly sobbed.

"Your child is still with you, do not fear Ms Granger."

She expelled the breath she had unconsciously sucked in and nodded slowly, her slightly messy hair flopping into her face. She closed the distance

between herself and Ermine, reaching out for one of her hands.

"Let's go..." Just as the two of them were about to blink out, Draco grabbed her shoulder.

"Promise you'll come back to me?"

A soft smile crossed her lips. "What ever gave you the idea that I wouldn't?"

"You have been dead for the past month."

"Err...I'll come back, I promise. When I come back, I'll be in my room." She kissed him lightly, before nodding quickly to Ermine.

The two women both took in deep breaths and then disappear in the blink of an eye. He sighed quietly and looked up into Dumbledore's sparkling

blue eyes.

"Don't worry Mr. Malfoy, everything will be all right in the end."

"I hope so Professor...I really do."

The two men then left the Hospital Wing, considerably happier then when they entered.
