Chapter 9
"Ah, I really hate not knowing when I'm going to appear to disappear." Colonel O'Neill says when he realizes he's back on the base.
"You don't think its fun. Come on Colonel it adds a little spice to life." Andrea says grinning at the Colonel.
"No it doesn't. I also hate the lack of explanations." O'Neill speaks showing his annoyance in his tone of voice
"I'll explain, I promise. I have to find Daniel then I'll meet you in General Hammond's office." Andrea pulls the device out of her pocket.
"Sure be quick." O'Neill looks at the device in Andrea's hand.
"Here, see if you can find Major Carter." Andrea hands him the device and runs the other way.
O'Neill walks into Major Carter's lab. "Hey Carter, I just saw Thor, he told me to give this to you." Jack puts the device on the table.
Sam looks at the device. "What is it?" Sam picks it up and studies the device.
"Thor says it will help contact the Asgard long range." O'Neill turns to go.
"That's great. Where are you headed?" Sam says studying the device and holding it in her hand.
"To see General Hammond, you should come with me."
"Okay I was headed that way anyway." Sam walks to the door.
"Hey guys." Andrea walks into Daniel's office and begins searching through his books.
"You're back." Jonas says smiling at her.
"How did it go?" Daniel gets up and stands next to her. "What are you looking for?"
"It went well. I'm looking for a book on..." Andrea looks down to the books on the lower shelves and bumps her head with Daniel.
"Ouch you okay?" Jonas laughs.
"Yeah, how about you?" Daniel looks at Andrea.
"Fine." Andrea moves to look at more books. ""Here it is. Norse mythology." Andrea pulls the book off the shelf and hands the book to Daniel.
"What is this for?" Daniel looks at the book.
"Thor needs us to go to one of Aegir's worlds. I'll need you to give General Hammond a short brief." Andrea looks excited.
"Sure when?" Daniel looks at the book opening it.
"Now." Andrea rubs her head. "Jonas we'll fill you in later."
"Okay." Jonas answers as Andi and Daniel leave.
"Ah, here comes the answer to all our questions." Jack says as Daniel and Andrea walk into the Briefing room.
"Yes here I am." Daniel says grinning at Andrea.
"Colonel O'Neill tells me Thor wants a team to go an Asgard protected planet." Hammond says directing his question to Andrea.
"Yes, Daniel can give you a history of what the world is like. When the team gets there I can tell you what the Asgard want."
"They want something? Just like Thor." O'Neill says in a short tone.
"Hey, I'm over it O'Neill. He's paying you back for you've done for them." Andrea says in defense of the Asgard.
"Yes, here it is. Aegir is said to be the god of the sea or ocean." Daniel says to the General.
"In mythology they say he sunk ships because of greed. However he is very hospitable." Andrea gives some background information.
"Where would the team be going to, Dr. Milton?" Carter says from her seat at the table.
"Lessoe, it's much like Earth, 70% water." Andrea recalls the information from memory about the planet.
"Why would Aegir want us to go Lessoe?" O'Neill asks scrutinizing Andrea.
"I don't know, but something must be wrong. Once the situation has been assessed, I can tell you what they need." Andrea feels a pang of emergency run through her, and then fade.
"Why can't Thor tell you what they need?" Hammond asks.
"The Protected Planets Treaty prevents them from giving us what they want." Daniel answers.
"Who do you think should go?" O'Neill asks, feeling he's given the Asgard one too many freebies.
"Why don't Kawalsky and Dr. Milton go since she knows more about the culture? Then when we have a problem we can go from there." Hammond says looking up at Andrea.
"It works for me General." Andrea smiles.
"General I think I should go as well." Daniel can't pass up the chance to visit an Asgard world.
"Good. Senator Fletcher will be here tomorrow." Hammond informs the group.
"That's great. Do you want me to meet his plane?" Andrea asks looking at the General.
"No. Just be in the conference room at 900 hours." Hammond says to everyone.
"Okay, after the Senator leaves, can SG-1 and 18 will depart for our next mission?" O'Neill asks.
"Yes," Hammond says to the Colonel. "Colonel O'Neill says that we can fix communications with the Asgard." Hammond asks the Major.
"Yes, Major Carter is holding a device which can be adapted to our technology." Andrea answers, looking at Sam.
"Cool." Sam says looking at the relatively small device in her hand.
Andrea smiles at Sam. "With the Major's help I can finish short range communications."
"Good, see that it's done." Hammond says standing up from his chair.
Major Davis stands at the security check point. "Senator Fletcher, I'm Major Davis. I'll be showing you around the SGC."
"Hello Major, that would be wonderful." Randall Fletcher says walking over to the Major in his tailored suit.
"You'll be meeting SG-1 and General Hammond later." The Major informs the Senator.
"What about Dr. Milton?" Fletcher asks.
"I don't know sir; I myself haven't met her yet." The Major tells him.
Andrea sits in the conference room rubbing her arms nervously. Daniel sits on her right and Kawalsky on her left. Everyone is in military uniform or suits.
"Stop it; you're making the Colonel nervous." Kawalsky says watching Andrea.
"I can't help it. What's taking him so long?" Andrea sounds excited but nervous.
"Major Davis is showing him around the SGC." Sam says looking at Andrea.
"Is Kinsey here?" O'Neill asks looking at Carter.
"No Colonel, he is overseas." Hammond says walking into the briefing room.
"Thank God." O'Neill sounds happy.
"It shouldn't be much longer Andrea." Daniel pours Andrea a drink.
"Thanks Daniel." Andrea smiles at Daniel
General Hammond says watching the two men and an escort come up the spiral stair case. "Here they come, Dr. Milton." Everyone stands up.
"Senator Fletcher, this is General George Hammond, Colonel Jack O'Neill, Major Samantha Carter, Teal'c, Jonas Quinn, and Dr. Daniel Jackson. I don't know..." The Major stops looking at Andrea and Kawalsky.
"Andrea." Senator Fletcher walks around and hugs Andrea.
"Major Davis, this is Dr. Andrea Milton and Major Charles Kawalsky." Hammond says looking at Major Davis.
"Of course, it's good to meet you." The Major says as the Senator puts down Andrea.
"Nice to meet you Major Davis." Kawalsky shakes Major Davis' hand.
"Nice to meet you Major. How was your tour Randall?" Andrea smiles at the Senator and O'Neill relaxes in the face visibly.
"Good. Everyone was great." Randall smiles at everyone.
"Have a seat Senator, Major." Hammond motions to seats at the end of the table.
"Thank you General." Randall smiles and leaves Andrea side to sit at the end of the table. "Andrea said we could help each other out."
"I don't know what you were thinking Dr. Milton. I do know that Senator Kinsey makes it difficult at times and endangers Earth and the program." Hammond says looking at Andrea, then the Senator.
"Since I arrived at the SGC, I've read up on the missions. I was informed that Kinsey has made the Colonel's life hell." Randall says feeling relaxed.
"That sounds just like that self-serving man." Andrea says bluntly.
"Boy, I'm glad you feel that way." O'Neill smiles.
"Colonel O'Neill has a severe dislike for Kinsey." Sam says looking the Senator.
"From what Major Davis has told me, Kinsey has been negligent in his duties to oversee the financial budget. With the information I've been given, I believe I can fight him better in my campaign. This program is too important for Kinsey to destroy." Randall says to Andrea.
"I'm glad that you that Randall." Andrea nods her head.
"I'd love to take Andrea from you, but she is better use to me here. I will brief the President on what I've seen."
"Randall, you're going to make Kinsey mad." Andrea says a worry line appearing on her forehead.
"Good." O'Neill and the senator say at the same time.
"I'd be careful Senator, Kinsey isn't past killing someone." Sam says looking at the Senator.
"I'm not surprised Major. Dr. Jackson, if it weren't for you Kinsey would have gotten us all killed. I thank you for your service, you as well Teal'c. All of you have gone above and beyond the call of duty." Randall offers his thanks to the group.
"Thank you." All say but Andrea.
"If you don't mind, I'd like spend some time with Dr. Milton, alone." Randall says looking at Major Davis and General Hammond.
"Sure take all the time you need." Hammond says smiling at Colonel O'Neill who looks almost giddy.
Andrea and the Senator stand in the Briefing room alone. "Oh Randall, I missed you and Alex so much." Andrea hugs him tight.
"We missed you. You weren't kidding on the phone." Randall hugs back.
"No, but it is good to be home." Andrea wipes the tears from her eyes.
"Are you okay, hun?" Randall pulls away and looks at Andrea with concern.
"Yes, the last six years have been difficult for me." Andrea looks upset.
If there was one thing about Andrea that Randall knew that she was in love with Daniel Jackson long ago. "You can tell me anything. You still love him don't you? I can see it in your eyes."
"Yes Daniel has been kind since I brought him back..." Andrea begins to cry again.
"Give it time dear. I can tell you're fighting some demons." Randall hugs Andrea again.
"The demons are fighting back hard. Something awful happened to me a few years ago, and I did something horrible in return. The nightmares terrify me, but it helps me see my objectives better." Andrea hugs the Senator back.
"Be careful Andi, you could make yourself sick that way." Randall answers in a fatherly tone.
"I know. I'm afraid of what people will think of me." Andrea says her voice clear.
"Andrea, you're a good person. Whatever happened, you couldn't be fully responsible." Randall says pull some hair out of Andrea's face.
"Some might not see that way." Andrea lowers her eyes to the floor.
"Trust me, it will be okay. When you're ready to tell me, I'll help you." Randall's concern for Andrea in his tone.
"Thank you Randall." Andrea smiles.
"I called a real estate agent for you. She'll contact you. She's the best. Tell her what you want and she'll get it for you." Randall says changing the subject.
"You didn't have to do that." Andrea whips the tears from her eyes.
"Yes I did. I owe you at least that much in back pay." Randall says a little forceful.
"Randall, I can't let you do that." Andrea argues.
"Can't let him do what?" Daniel walks in.
"Buy me a house." Andrea turns to Daniel, pushing the hurt away.
"Dr. Jackson, I'm not taking no for answer from Andrea. I expect you to see that she gets the house she wants." Randall smiles at Dr. Jackson.
"Okay, I'll try." Daniel feels like he's missing something.
"Daniel. He can't do that." Andrea says half whining.
"I am. Now I have to be back in Washington soon. Andrea be careful and kick back. Dr. Jackson, it was nice to finally meet you." Randall walks to the door.
"It was nice to meet Senator Fletcher." Daniel says looking at Andrea.
"I'll be back. I promise." The Senator looks at Andrea with a twinkle in his eye.
"Bye Randall." Andrea calls after him
"Bye Andrea." Randall Fletcher leaves.
