CHAPTER SIX
"Doctor? Why is it taking so long?" Lucien walked in upset at the person in question.
The doctor turned from Akari and faced his master.
"My lord, I'm glad you're here. Her majesty is very stubborn, but I may have figured out how to destroy the shield Queen Akari erected around herself." the doctor told him with a smile.
"Really? Explain?" Lucien asked watching the doctor walk over to the left side of the lab to a machine that look like a large laser.
"Since her majesty refuses to lower her shield, I built this baby to do it for her. Although, I haven't tested it yet to see if it will work or what the effects on her the energy blast will have." He told Lucien as he watched him hopped into the control chair.
"Well, my dear doctor. There's only one way to find out the answers to both questions."
Lucien powered up the machine and aimed it at the seemingly comatose Akari still laying on the table.
"Fire in the hole." Lucien said and fired the blast at Akari where it collided with her spirit shield.
Akari visibly flinched under the assault as her spirit shield began to weaken.
"Its working, sir." The doctor said with a smile.
"Of course. It won't be long now. Hahahhahaha!"
Lucien laughed as he watched Akari begin to struggle to hold the shield.
Meanwhile, Yusuke and the others have emerged on the other side of the forest when the twins suddenly fell to their knees and doubled over in pain.
Yusuke and Hiei knelt down to them and cradled them in their arms.
"Dante, what's wrong?" Hiei asked his son whose eyes were tightly shut.
Dante slowly opened his eyes and looked at his father with tears clouding his vision.
"I-Its mama. She is pain, such terrible pain! It hurts!" Dante began struggle against his father as the pain increased.
Hiei hugged his son to him and felt a tug on his arm. He turned to see Bijin beside him in the same obvious distress. He unwrapped one of his arms from around Dante and pulled her into his embrace, giving them what comfort he could.
"Make it stop, please. Make it stop hurting mama." Bijin softly pleaded into her father's chest, clutching his shirt in her hand.
The twins continued to writhe and whimper in Hiei's arms as the pain seemed to increase in force. Soon, two heart wrenching screams pierced the air, echoing through the canyon that separated the forest from the grasslands on the other side.
"Dante? Bijin?"
The twins heard familiar voices calling out their names, drawing them from the darkness that shrouded them.
"Open you eyes!"
Dante and Bijin did as the voice said and slowly opened their eyes to see their father still holding them in his arms with Yusuke, Kurama, and Kuwabara gathered around them, all with concerned looks on their faces.
"Are you two okay?" Kuwabara asked.
"We know where mama is, Yusuke." Dante told his uncle.
"You do? How?" Yusuke asked.
"Just before I passed out, I saw where mama was being held. She's at Lord Lucien's stronghold and its only five miles away from here once we cross the bridge.
"Whose Lord Lucien?" Kurama asked.
"Lord Lucien is the demon overlord in the Northern region. He's a vain and cruel demon who fancies himself in love with our mother. He's been trying to woo our mother, but mama would never give him the time of day because she's still in love with our father." Dante told them.
"Apparently, he didn't take the rejection too well because he invaded our homeland when everyone was preparing to celebrate the kingdom's 500th anniversary. We were caught off guard and he took our mother as his ultimate prize." Bijin said.
Dante and Bijin eyes filled with unshed tears and snuggled into their father's chest and silently let their tears fall. Yusuke stroked their heads.
"Hey, it'll be okay. We'll get your mom back and whoever hurt her will have to deal with us." Yusuke told them.
"No." Hiei said.
The twins looked up at their father along with everyone else.
"I will deal with them." Hiei promised.
The twins smiled, wiped away their tears, and stepped back from their father somehow knowing that Hiei would keep his promise.
"Let's go." Hiei said.
"It seems to have worked my lord." The doctor said looking at Lucien as he left the machine after it short-circuited after being used a full power for the period of time he used it on Akari's shield.
"Not quite, doctor." Lord Lucien told the doctor as he approached Akari and stretched out his hand.
And sure enough the shield was still there only this time, his hand wasn't injured. Lucien removed his hand and smiled.
"It seems the queen's spirit shield has been severely weakened. Excellent. Doctor, how long before that machine of yours can be repaired?" Lucien said looking at his hand.
"I could have it up and running again in 45 minutes, sir." The doctor told him.
"You have 30, get to work." Lucien told him, turning to leave the lab.
"Yes, sir! Right away!" The doctor said as the door to the lab closed once more and immediately began repairs on the machine unaware of the pair of tiny eyes watching him from the air vent on the far right side of the lab.
Master will be pleased that I have found the key. I must get him at once! The voice of the small gray rat said to itself, turned away from the vent and left.
