CHAPTER TEN

For once, the clouds parted long enough to allow

sunlight to filter through and illuminate the twin's

bedroom. Hiei blinked and raised his hand to shield

his eyes from the rays shining down on his face. He

yawned and stretched, his movements causing the twins

to stir and awaken as well.

The twins looked up at their father and smiled.

"Mornin' papa." The said simultaneously.

Hiei smiled down at them and kissed them on their

foreheads.

"Morning. Did you sleep well?" He asked.

The twins nodded as they yawned and stretched. All

three got up and went into the bathroom to wash up.

They got dressed and left their room just as Yusuke,

Kuwabara, and Kurama came out of their room that was

right across from theirs.

"Man, uncle Yusuke. You look terrible. Didn't get much

sleep last night?" Bijin asked.

The six friends walked downstairs. The kitchen their

destination.

"You wouldn't either if you had to listen to

Kuwabara's loud snoring." Yusuke replied.

"I do NOT snore!" Kuwabara shouted.

"Sure you don't." Yusuke said sarcastically.

Kuwabara growled and popped Yusuke across the back of

his head, leaving a bump on it. The rest laughed as

they entered the kitchen and fixed themselves some

breakfast. Once they finished, they went into the den

to discuss the situation about Akari.

"Well, we know that mama is being held at Lord Kei's

castle in the Eastern lands. But, what I don't

understand is why. Lord Kei and his empire has always

gotten along with ours for the past 10 decades, so I

don't understand why he would save mama only to kidnap

her himself?" Dante said.

"Maybe he thought himself in love with your mom like

that baka Lord Lucien did?" Kuwabara asked.

"No. Lord Kei gave me the impression that he had other

intentions for Akari and none of them were romantic in

nature." Hiei said.

"Then, why?" Yusuke asked.

"I think I may have found the answer." Bijin said

placing a book on the table.

"What is it?" Kuwabara asked looking at the book.

"According to this book, it tells of the Key and the

Cleansing. The Cleansing is when this world is

destroyed to make way for the new. The Cleansing was

attempted once before by an evil demon, but was

thwarted when a brave demon slayer sacrificed his life

to kill the demon and stop the Cleansing." Kurama

read.

"After that event, six elders created The Key as a

fail safe device to both activate the Cleansing and to

stop it. The Cleansing will occur, but only at the

appointed time. But, if someone with evil intentions

ever found out about the Key and the Cleansing, the

world would be in great danger. So, the elders wrote

down the location of the key in a ancient, but long

dead language to keep the key safe." Hiei finished

reading what the page said.

Hiei turned to the next page to see in written in a

language he didn't understand.

"That's written in grandpa's language. Mama taught it

to us." Dante stated and read what was written on the

page.

"It says the Key is sleeping in the first born and

only offspring between a wolf-demon of royal blood and

a..NANI?!" Dante eyes widened at what the page said.

"What is it, Dante? What does it say?" Hiei asked his

son.

Bijin leaned over and finished what her brother

started.

"The Key is sleeping the first born and only offspring

between a wolf-demon of royal blood and a human

female...demon...slayer." Bijin voice said softly.

Everyone's eyes widened to the size of dinner plates

when that piece of information sunk in.

"Its mama. Mama is the Key. That's why Lord Kei took

her. He found out about mama and the Cleansing." Dante

said.

"Does Akari know about this?" Kurama asked.

"I don't think so. The book says that the vessel of

the Key will have no knowledge of the Key's

exisitence." Bijin replied.

"But, how does he intend to use it?" Kurama asked,

thinking.

"Its says here that there's a spell that can be use to

awaken the sleeping power of the Key within the vessel

that houses it. The spell must be performed on the

night of the new moon. That's tonight!" Dante stated

from the page.

"We have to get to Kei's castle and stop him from

using that spell and save Akari." Yusuke said.

"Then, let's go." Kuwabara said, standing up from his

seat.

"Right." Everyone agreed.

And with that, they quickly mounted Kento and took off

at top speed to Kei's castle in the eastern lands.

The sun has set and atop the roof of Lord Kei's

castle, Lord Kei, Yuki, the Trio, and a few robed

figures, one carrying the still unconscious Akari who

was in a white ceremonial dress, arrived and placed

her upon the ceremonial alter.

Lord Kei stepped forward to the alter and opened the

book in his hand and began to recite the spell to

activate the Key to unleash the Cleansing.

"Let this world end and new world begin. The power of

the Key shall bring about the Cleansing. Let the sound

of my voice ring loud and clear..." Lord Kei recited.

Dark, ominous clouds gathered, lightening crashed, and

rain poured down upon them. Yuki watched in awe when

he sensed something. He walked up to Lord Kei.

"Sir, they're coming." He said softly.

Lord Kei kept reading the book and said without

turning.

"You know what to do." He replied.

Yuki nodded and turned the three demons standing in

the shadows behind him.

"You heard him." Yuki said.

A menacing laugh was heard and the three demons were

gone to complete their mission. To stop Hiei and the

others.

Hiei and the others were fast approaching Lord Kei's

castle when they noticed the sudden change in the

weather.

"This can't be good." Yusuke said as they were getting

drenched in the downpour.

"We can't stop. Akari needs us. Hurry Kento." Hiei

said.

Kento roared and pushed himself to go faster than he

thought he could ever go. As Kento closed the gap

between them and the castle, Kento was suddenly struck

by a blast to his tail. He roared in pain and came to

a stop nearly unseating his riders.

"Kento are you alright?" Bijin asked.

Kento growled softly.

"Well, well. Look what we have here." An unknown voice

said.

Hiei and the others looked around to see three demons

floating before them.

"Who the hell are you?" Yusuke demanded.

All three demons were males and very muscular. The

tallest of the three had a single horn growing out of

his head. He had blue-black shoulder length hair,

golden eyes and black wings. He wore no shirt and had

black pants with boots. He also had a long scar going

across his chest from his left shoulder to his navel.

"My name is Arc." He announced.

The one in the middle who happened to be the shortest

of the three had short red hair and ice blue eyes. He

wore a yellow tank top with white pants and sandals.

He floated in the air by use of his spirit energy.

"I'm Griffith." He said.

The last demon had messy green hair with black eyes,

blue skin, pointy ears, fangs, and a lizard-like tail.

He was wearing a red gi with blue belt and black

boots.

"And I'm Kain." He told them.

"I don't give a rats ass who you are. Now, if you will

excuse us, we have business elsewhere." Hiei said.

Kento started to move forward, but stopped again when

the three demons appeared a few feet in front of them

to halt their attempt to proceed. Kento growled at

them.

"I don't think so. See, we're here to make sure you

don't interfere with our lord's plan to bring about

the Cleansing." Griffith said.

"Are you insane?! If he brings about the Cleansing,

the world will be destroyed and you'll die just like

everyone else!" Dante shouted.

Kain shrugged.

"We don't care. We didn't care too much about this

world with this peace and love. Now, chaos and

destruction is where its at." He said with a grin.

"Get the hell outta our way!" Hiei shouted obviously

angry over these demons keeping him from his mate and

his spirit energy rising as his blood continue to

boil.

"Papa." Bijin said softly, trembling from her father's

power.

Dante smiled at his father. He knew his mother had

chosen wisely and the heavens deemed Hiei fit and

deserving of their mother and her, no, their love.

They were a family now. A real family.

"Sorry, but you're not going anywhere." Arc said.

"We beg to differ." A familiar voice said.

Out of thin air, four figures appeared before Arc,

Griffith, and Kain.

"Its uncle Yamato, Hyoga, Milo, and Honda." Bijin said

with smile.

"Hello, sweetie. We here to help." Yamato said.

"You guys get going and save your mom and the world.

We'll keep these guys occupied." Milo said.

"Thanks minna. Go Kento." Dante said.

Hang on, Akari. We're coming. Hiei said to himself.

Kento roared and took off towards the castle once more

as the weather increased in ferocity. Arc, Kain, and

Griffith tried to stopped them, but were blocked by

Yamato and the others.

"Sorry. You guys have to deal with us." Hyoga said.

Back at the castle...

"Release the power of the Key and let the world's end

be near!" Lord Kei shouted.

Akari's body began to glow and levitate above the

alter. Soon, tiny sparks of light began to emerge from

her body and floating up into the sky to form a orb of

light. Once the orb had formed, it shot beam back at

Akari causing her body arch and writhe. Akari, who

came to in time to see the beam of light hit her, was

screaming in pain. Her body felt like it was being

torn apart.

Kento was closing in on the castle when Hiei suddenly

doubled over in pain holding his stomach.

"Hiei!" Yusuke said loudly over the noise to his

friend sitting in front of him.

"Papa!" Dante and Bijin both said turning to look at

their father.

"What's wrong?!" Kurama shouted.

"I-Its Akari! Ugh...we have to hurry!" Hiei managed to

get out feeling the pain his mate was in.

Kento pushed himself harder, forcing his riders to

hold on for dear life. He could sense his owner's pain

and distress and was responding to it.

Dante and Bijin watched as they were coming up on the

castle to see the invisible magic shield surrounding

the roof.

"Kento stop! There's a magical barrier ahead!" Dante

yelled.

Kento only increased his speed.

"He's going to try and punch trough! Hang on

everybody!" Bijin yelled.

Everyone flattened themselves to Kento back as he

collided with the barrier causing it to shatter due to

the impact. But, they were too late. The beam of light

shining down on Akari vanished, but the damaged had

been done.

"Akari!" Hiei screamed with he saw her.

Akari managed to keep her eyes open enough to see

Hiei, her children, and the others. She smiled softly

as tears fell from her eyes.

"Hiei-chan, so good...to see you." She said as the

light faded from her eyes and closed.

The glow faded from her body as her body floated back

down upon the alter. Hiei didn't wait for them to

land. He jumped off and appeared by Akari's now

lifeless body.

"Akari?" He lifted her up and received no response.

"Please no. No." He hugged her to him as tears ran

down his face.

"AAKARRRIIIII!!!!!!" Hiei screamed as the world

began to fall apart around him.
