He chased her all the way home, trying to convince her there was something there, something between them. That she was making a terrible mistake.
She walked inside the house making idle threats like she always did. He'd always shrugged them off before, but tonight something was different. Tonight when she screamed and yelled and stomped inside, he couldn't follow her. The invisible barrier that had been lost long ago was suddenly resurrected, shutting down every bit of hope that ran through his body.
And he was left out in the cold. It was Buffy's life, and he wasn't invited.
