This is a song I wrote on a street corner in December while I was playing in a flute quartet for our town's Holiday festivities. They wanted to have music to create a cheerful holiday atmosphere, so some genius said. "Hey, let's make the band students stand out in the cold all night and play Christmas carols." Thanks. It was really cold, and you can't play a flute with gloves on, so we only took them off to play when someone walked by. The rest of the time, we sat on the sidewalk passing around a cup with some warm drink in it to warm up our fingers. I was really bored, and very tired of listening to the trumpets at the other end of the block playing 'The Twelve Days of Christmas', so I wrote my own Lord of the Rings version.
Starting from the twelfth day of Christmas:
On the twelfth day of Christmas, Tolkien gave to me,
Twelve hours of movies,
Eleven men of Rohan,
Ten orcs a-plenty,
Nine kings of men,
Eight legs of Shelob,
Seven dwarf lords,
Six knights of Gondor,
The Lord of the Rings,
Four hobbits,
Three Elvin Kings,
Two towers,
And one, ruling ring.
Thank you, thank you. I'd like to thank my mom, my cat, and the idiot that made me stand out in front of the General Store for six hours.
