Lore of the Ents

Treebeard: For those of you who have never heard of an Ent before, hoom, this was created by us Ents, so perhaps you will have an understanding of what we are like. Hoom, hm, there was a longer version, but it did not seem to go well with others, they kept falling asleep during the first stanza. Hm, so the Ents decided to make a more hasty version for you.

Long ago were born the Ents,

Bark for skin, branches for limbs.

A living tree.

Hoom, hm

Taller than any Man or Ent,

Taller than any hut or house.

A great tree.

Hm, hm, hm

Voices like thunder,

Great and loud.

A breathing tree.

Hm, hoom, hm

Protector of the woods, A

nd all its beasts.

A seeing tree.

Hoom, hm

They dwell in forests,

Blending in with the trees.

A walking tree.

Hm, hoom

Never to be seen,

The living tree.
