Pirates of the Caribbean – The Lifting of the Curse. (A Missing Scene.)

By Allyson.

Disclaimer – I do not own anything to do with Pirates of the Caribbean. (Though my sister wouldn't mind owning Orlando Bloom or Johnny Depp if they're going free!) This is done for fun so don't sue me!!!

A/N – This is inspired from 2 deleted scenes from the DVD (one when Johnny and Kira are stranded on the island and the other one set after the skeleton fight in the treasure cave – the first half is taken from that script.)

Captain Jack Sparrow avoided looking at the dead body of Captain Barbossa as he walked up to the treasure chest. Knowing that both Elizabeth and Will were watching him, he quickly slashed his palm with his knife and held the Aztec coin tightly in the blood that flowed there.

"The Immortal Captain Jack Sparrow. It has such a nice ring about it," he remarked, almost absent-mindedly. Seeing the look Will Turner gave him he added, examining his skeletal hand in the moonlight, "And it's not a bad look, really."

Will didn't even flinch at the sight of the skeletal pirate but the doubtful look he gave Jack made the pirate feel even more see-through than he already was.

"Jack," admonished Will, though not without some compassion.

Jack seemed to make his mind up and threw the coin into the chest. Will made to push the lid back closed when it slid over on its own power and slammed shut.

There was an eerie silence between the two men as they both contemplated how the chest had locked itself. The moment was broken when Jack seemed to realize that the curse had been lifted and was now examining the reformed skin on his hands and the now non-existent stab wound he had received in the stomach.

"Mmm . . . interesting," Will heard Jack murmur to himself. It wasn't until then that Will and Elizabeth realized how close they had come to almost losing Jack.

"I don't believe that you'd want to be immortal, Jack," Will told him, surprising Jack out of his swaying thoughts.

"Oh?" smiled Jack, detachedly, looking over at the blacksmith. "You've known me less than a few days. How does that make you an expert on me?"

"Elizabeth told me about the 'legendary' escape from that island. Attempted suicide, Jack?" questioned Will, pushing up the pirate's left sleeve to reveal the cut marks. Behind him, Elizabeth tried to look like she wasn't eavesdropping. "If you hated being alone then, you'd go even more insane in years to come when everyone you know are dead except for you."

For one lucid moment, Jack became still and stared back at Will with a startling intensity that made Will question what he had said. In a flash, the moment was over and Jack gave him a golden-toothed grin and once again began moving at odds to the world again.

"You forgot one important thing, mate," singsonged the pirate. "I'm Captain Jack Sparrow, savvy? You two are just going to have to trust me better. Got that whelp?"

Will grinned at Jack's words. "We have an accord?"

Jack grinned and shook Will's hand in agreement before turning around to look at the mounds of gold around him.

"Well, if I'm not going to be immortal, I might as well stock up for a good living to come," he announced.

Will could positively see the pound signs in Jack's eyes light up. Knowing that Jack was back to as normal as he could ever be, gave Will hope for the outcome of their adventure and that everything would work out in the end.

THE END.
