"NO!!" she screamed. The red space she was floating in was disappearing. Dark, swirling clouds began to surround her as she reached out, desperate to grab hold of something. Finally, her out-stretched arms grabbed hold on to a cold, metal bar. Quickly looking down, she saw her mother, knees bended, on the floor, raising her hands above her head. She was shouting something, it sounded like, "No, please!!"
A bright green light shined for a few seconds, yet it was so bright, the girl had to close her eyes. When she re-opened them, her mother was gone. The girl felt an immediate cold envelope her, flowing through her veins. Freezing like ice, but burning like fire. "MOM!!" she cried, her voice sounding hollow. The clouds surrounding her became so thick that the girl could hardly see anything. Next, she heard a loud snap and felt herself falling, faster and faster and...
"AAAAHHH!!!"
Diana quickly sat up. The soft glow of a night-light lit up her bed. Looking around, Diana could see that her comforter and all of her pillows were strewn about the floor save for one, which she was gripping tightly. Her long and stringy black hair partly clung to her face, and she was dripping with sweat, though the steady hum of the air conditioner proved that the house was quite cool. She heard footsteps and soon after her door opened, revealing the large silhouette of her father filling the doorway.
"Are you alright? I heard you screaming," he said.
"Yes," she said distantly, her eyes gazing forward, staring strongly at nothing in particular. "Yes, I am alright. I just had a ... a bad dream."
"Was it about your mother?" he asked gently.
She sighed. I hate it when he asks that question, she thought. "Yes, yes it was, " she said slowly. "But this time it seemed so ... real."
