Disclaimer: I do not own any of the cast of Les Mis, Cam Mackintosh and those lovely people do, though owning Eponine would be fun cause then we could complain together about the men we can't have… But anyway…
A Little Fall of Rain (Eponine's thoughts if this WASN'T a song)
I climbed over the wall and saw Marius start coming toward me. I couldn't really hear what he was saying…the blood rushing through my ears was all I heard. Ah, dear Marius, he was the reason I had come back to the barricade. I could start to hear him now.
"Eponine, you're bleeding!" I looked down. Had I been shot? That would certainly explain the red mark on my coat. He laid me down and undid my coat. I felt something warm run over my hands. Blood. Maybe I was bleeding. I looked back up at Marius.
"Don't worry, M'sieur Marius…I'm not in pain."
"But 'Ponine…" he said softly as he set a light hand onto my chest. Now his hand was turning red. Silly boy, didn't he know better than to get his hands dirty with a victim's blood? Something wet and cool now fell on my face. Marius looked up. "I should get you under cover, it's starting to rain."
"Marius, a little fall of rain won't hurt me now. You're here…with me…and that's all I ask for. You'll keep me close to you…keep me safe…and the rain! Rain makes flowers grow, Marius, beautiful flowers that decorate the fields…"
"You're not going to die, 'Ponine, I swear it! I won't let you die! I'd leave this entire war, everything, everyone…oh 'Ponine, if I could heal you with my love…"
"Just stay here with me. Just let it all be…just don't leave me…"
"I'll never leave you, Eponine, you're my friend…my dear friend…" He looked around. "Honestly, 'Ponine, you've got to get out of the rain at least…"
"It can't hurt me…it'll just wash away the blood, the blood of everyone that's died tonight and every other night while you hold me here…" I gasped. Breaths came short now. "All I've wanted is to lie…to sleep in your embrace…and now I can…so close to you, just a breath away…" I gasped again and looked up at the man I loved. His face seemed out of focus. That's odd, everything was clear when he came… "I feel like I'm at home…"
"Hush, dear Eponine. You won't feel any pain, I swear it…" I could tell there was tears in his voice.
"I don't feel any pain…" I echoed.
"A little fall of rain can hardly hurt you now…" he managed.
"Fall of rain…" I whispered.
"I'm here."
"That's all I need to know," I barely said. Now everything was getting darker. My voice was fading and Marius' arms around me barely felt like they were there.
"I'll stay here…stay until you're…you're asleep…and the rain, Eponine?" I managed one more breath as I looked up at Marius for the last time, his beautiful fair face looking so sad in the moonlight.
"The rain…will make…the…flowers…" I gave up and let the breath go. Just before I slipped off into the bliss I felt was soon coming, I heard Marius whisper one word.
"Grow…"
Well? This is my first Les Mis fic, so bear with me. I desperately want to be Eponine in my school's production with my friend Todd as Marius but I won't get it… I love Eponine and I think the scene with "A Little Fall Of Rain" is so romantic, so… Read and review please!
Oh yeah, I did intentionally stray from the words of the actual song cause just making them quote it is boring.
