Chapter Four

Fake Feelings

"Settle down. Settle down." Professor McGonagall was trying to calm her class down. "You have plenty of work to do, so I suggest you get it done before add more."

At that almost everyone shut up, for they already got tons of assignments added to their homework for talking while she was trying to teach.

"Miss Granger, could I please see you after class?" she added, looking up at Hermione as she sat behind her desk at the front of the class.

"You wanted to see me, Professor?" Hermione asked standing at McGonagall's desk, books falling out of her hands.

"Yes, have a seat. Oh and Hermione."

"Yes, Professor."

"Relax." she added seeing the worried look on Hermione's face.

"As you know, Miss Granger. You have top marks in my class." Hermione smiled at the sound of the professor's words. "Unfortunately, there are those less fortunate. If you don't mind, Miss Granger." she went on. "I would like you to tutor someone from this class."

"Who could it be?" Hermione wondered. As if reading her thoughts, Professor McGonagall answered,

"Draco Malfoy."

"Actually, Professor." Hermione said aloud. McGonagall knew what she was going to say and quickly gave Hermione a disapproving look.

"I'd love to." Hermione said, forcing a smile.

"This isn't fare." Hermione said to Harry, Ron and Ginny as they ate breakfast in the Great Hall.

"That's right, I heard what happened." Ginny replied.

"What happened?" Harry and Ron said in union.

"McGonagall wants me to tutor Malfoy." Hermione answered, playing with her food with her fork in her right hand and holding her head up with her left.

"WHAT!" Ron shouted, practically spiting food all over.

"Yeah, I know, Ron." Hermione said sadly.

"Well why don't you go to McGonagall and tell her you can't do it." Harry suggested.

"I already tried, when she first asked me, Harry. But… I couldn't say no. And I can't tell her now. I promised her I would do this. I just can't let her down."

Hermione was waiting in the empty Transfigurations classroom for Draco. It was nearly nine o' clock and Draco was over a half an hour late. Hermione had decided that if he didn't show up with in five more minutes, she was going to leave. Suddenly the classroom door creaked open.

"I knew it was going to be you, Granger." he said giving her a nasty look as he walked in and took a seat.

"Where the hell have you been?"

"Don't push it, Granger. I had business to take care of in the Slytherin Tower."

"That's not an excuse, Malfoy."

"I didn't say it was, Granger." He emphasized her name just a little more then she had done.

"Well stop acting like it."

"Look, can we just shut up and get this over with?" he said, leaning back in his chair.

"Fine!" she replied, sitting in the chair across from him. "You know...I really don't like this any better then you do."

"I didn't say I didn't want to be here, you know, Granger." he said softly. "I guess I have to start somewhere." he thought to himself.

"What?" Hermione asked, taken aback. Draco got up and moved to the teacher's desk, pretending to feel uncomfortable. "This is going to be a piece of cake." he thought.

"I said…I didn't say I didn't want to be here….with you." Draco said again, still standing at the professor's desk, his back to Hermione.

"What are you t-trying to say?" Hermione asked. Thinking this whole situation was a little too strange. "Why is he being so nice to me all of a sudden?" she wondered.

"This is really hard to say, but…. I'm trying to say… that I…..I ----" but before he could finish, Filch came bursting in the class room.

"What are you two still doing up?"

"Fuck." Draco thought.

"I was just tutoring Malf------" Hermione started but was cut off by Filch.

"I know what you were doing. McGonagall told me your little session would be over at nine thirty. Its now ten." Hermione looked at her watch. Draco moved over to Hermione to see her watch too. Filch was right. It was indeed ten o' clock.

"Sorry." Hermione whispered, as she grabbed her books and walked out of the classroom, followed by Draco.

"So what were you trying to say back there?" Hermione asked Draco as they walked into their common room.

"Nothing. It was nothing." He said calmly as he walked over to the couch.

"No, it was something. You were being way to nice."

"It was nothing, Granger. Now drop it." Draco said, now in his usual cold tone as he laid on the couch, resting his eyes.

"Fine, your not going to tell me?" she asked still standing in front of him, her hands on her hips.

"Nope." he replied, eyes still closed, drifting off to sleep.

"Ok. Fine. You leave me no chose. I guess I'll just have to force it out of you." but he didn't seem to have heard her. Hermione quietly picked up one of the pillows from the couch.

"It's quiet. A little too quiet." Draco thought. Just as Draco slowly opened his eyes a fluffy velvet pillow came crashing down on his face.

"You BASTARD!" Draco yelled jumping up. He ran to his room, Hermione right behind him.

"Two can play that game, Granger." he said laughing, as he picked up one of his pillows and hit her with it. She dropped her velvet pillow on the floor. Instead of picking it up, she pushed Draco onto the floor. As he fell, he grabbed her arm, taking her down with him.

Hermione fell right on top of Draco. (A/N: lol)

"Hey!" Hermione said, laying on top of him.

"Sorry." he said still laughing. Hermione got up and sat on Draco's bed. Draco then got up and sat next to her.

"Listen." he said, pretending to be serious. "What I'm trying to say is that… that I love you, Hermione."

"WHAT?!" Hermione said practically jumping up.

"This can't be happening. Can it?" Hermione thought.

"What?" she repeated a little more calmly this time. "Are you kidding me?"

"No." he lied. "I mean it." Hermione got up off the bed.

"Im sorry, Draco." she said standing in front of him. "But I just dunno if I can believe you." She started to back up as Draco got up as well.

"I know." he said grabbing her hand with his. "I don't expect you to."
