A/N: Ok, you guys. I know I waited a long time to post a new chapter but here it is. (Finally, lol) so without farther ado………..

Chapter Nine

Unexpected Feelings

"You two are lucky I don't have you expelled for that little stunt in the Great Hall." McGonagall was saying to Hermione and Draco. They had just started their detention with her.

It also had been a few days since Hermione caught Draco and Pansy doing……well stuff.

They hadn't been talking much to each other either lately. For the most part, they'd been avoiding each other.

"So what I want you two to do is------------" McGonagall started but Draco cut her off.

"Excuse me, Professor." he said, slightly tilting forward in his chair. "But don't you think that we had a good enough punishment cleaning up the Great Hall?"

"No, Mr. Malfoy, I don't. So…for that I want you two to clean all of the desks and tables in here and then when you get done with that I want you to rearrange all of the books on those bookshelves in there." she pointed to the room to the right just behind her desk. "By author." she finished. "Is that clear?" McGonagall got up gathering some papers from her desk.

"Yes." Hermione and Draco said in union.

"Good." The Professor said turning on her heal and walking out the door.

"This is ridiculous." Draco said in his usual cold tone when Professor McGonagall left. "One bookshelf alone is going to take at least an hour with magic. Maybe more and there's three of them." he continued talking more to himself then Hermione.

"Well, there's really no use in complaining about it." Hermione said, walking over to one of the student's desks and picking up one of the rags McGonagall left on the desk. "So lets just get this over with."

"You know what? You do it, Granger." he said getting up.

"Excuse me." Draco walked over to where Hermione stood. He now stood inches away from her.

"You do it. Its your fault we're here." Draco replied, still standing inches away from her.

"Would you stop excusing me of everything. I'm not saying it's not my fault but you had something to do with it too. No one told you to return fire." she stated, backing up away from Draco. "So you are going to help me and we are going to get his done. Together." Hermione added in her bossy tone.

She then threw the other rag at him and he caught it with one hand right in front of his stomach. Hermione then dipped her rag in the bucket of soapy water McGonagall also left and started to wash the tables. Draco did the same but instead of helping her clean the tables, he just stood there holding the soapy rag in his hand as he watched her.

Hermione looked up to see why he wasn't helping her when Draco's rag landed in her face.

"DRACO, YOU GOT SOAP IN MY EYE." Hermione screamed, holding her right eye with both of her hands.

"Hold on. I'll get it out." Draco replied playfully and stupidly, pulling out his wand.

He then pointed it straight at Hermione. Draco muttered a spell under his breath. Suddenly a bunch of water shot out of the tip of Draco's wand. Hermione started to freak out and scream worse then what she had been doing before, as he sprayed her with water.

"Draco." she said through clutching, when the water had stopped. She stood there, drenched from head to toe. Her hands were balled into fists at her sides. She began to shiver and shake from the cold water. Or maybe perhaps was it from her anger?

"Yes?" he replied as if not see what he did was wrong.

"My EYE had soap in it. NOT ALL OVER ME."

Draco laughed and gave her a big smile. Hermione couldn't help but to smile back at him. After all, they couldn't possibly stay mad at each other forever, right? Right.

"She looks so sexy when she gets mad." he thought and then quickly shook his head, shaking away his thoughts once again. He moved over to her but as he did he could hear her muttering the same spell he had done.

Suddenly, before he knew what had hit him, he was being sprayed with water as well.

"Hermione!" he screamed, still being sprayed with water.

Suddenly the water stopped.

"Opps. I saw something on your face and just had to get it off." she replied sarcastically with a laugh, mocking what he had done.

Hermione ran behind McGonagall desk as she saw Draco taking aim at her. She ducked on the floor as the pile of book flew off McGonagall's desk at the blast of the water from Draco's wand.

"You missed." she arose from behind the desk and took aim at Draco or at least what she thought was Draco. But it turned out it wasn't.

Hermione made a puzzled face. Her eyes moved cautiously from side to side. She stood there not moving at all. Her hand that held her wand was still stretched out in front of her. Suddenly he grabbed her out stanched hand from behind her and twisted her around to face him. But as he did she screamed the spell, spraying him in the face.

Not only did she spray him but she also accidentally sprayed herself.

Hermione dropped her wand and the water stopped.

"Opps." Hermione said giving a nervous laugh as she snatched up her wand from off the floor. Seeing the evil smirk on Draco's face, she went around to the front of McGonagall's desk.

"I'm really sorry." she said as she started to back away from the desk. Draco didn't reply. He just stood there, his head slightly tilted downward, giving her his evil grin.

"Draco, please say something. That sick smirk is started to really scare me." Draco still didn't move or say anything.

"Listen, Draco, we should really get to work now." she backed right into a student's desk. Hermione saw him open his mouth and knew exactly what he was going to say.

She ducked just in time as a blast of water came flying her way. The blast of water from Draco's wand bounced of the wall behind Hermione and sprayed in every other direction.

"You missed again." she arose from her ducking position. "And now its pay back time, Draco." she gave a laugh and raised her wand at him but instead of screaming the same water spell, she used a different water spell. A water spell that was much more powerful then the other.

Draco ran around the room, the blasts of water just barely missing him. He then shouted the spell, spraying Hermione in her feet, causing her to stumble backwards. Draco raised his wand to fire at her again but Hermione was to fast for him. Her spell hit him in the hand causing him to drop his wand.

"WINGARDIUM LEVIOSA!" Hermione shouted. Draco's wand floated up in the air. He tried to retrieve it but it was to high up.

Hermione slowly walked up to a drenched Draco. "Well, Mr. Malfoy. It looks like your end is near." she pointed her wand at Draco's neck. She was also dripping from head to toe.

Draco grabbed her wrist and quickly twisted her around, locking her arm behind her back. His other hand rested on her stomach.

"Not so fast, Miss Granger." he said mocking her. "But it looks like your end is near." Without any warning, Hermione used her free arm and elbowed Draco in the stomach. He let out a small cry of pain as he let go of her to hold his stomach.

Draco straightened up as he saw Hermione point her wand at him again.

"I surrender." he said raising both of his hands in the air. "Listen, we got a bigger problem. Take a look around the room."

Hermione turned her gaze to the rest of the room. "Everything is soaked. Everything is ruined." Hermione thought.

"I think we're in trouble." he said, looking around the room as well.

"Ahh….maybe not."

He gave her a puzzled look.

Hermione raised her wand in the air and pointed it straight at the ceiling.

"Sepera Zora!" (that's not a real spell. Lol. Incase you couldn't tell…I made it up. Lol) Hermione shouted. Suddenly the whole room became nothing but a big bright white blur.

Draco couldn't see anything but white. He had not idea where he was. There was no sound in the room at all. Draco tried to call for Hermione but not a sound came out of his mouth.

"Hermione!" he tried to call again but still no sound came out.

Suddenly, within a flash, the blur vanished. Draco was back in the classroom, Hermione still standing next to him. He looked around. Nothing had a single drop of water on it. Hermione and Draco were no longer dripping wet and everything in McGonagall's office looked brand new.

"Wow!" Draco whispered, still looking around the room in total amazement.

"Well, it looks like we don't have to clean the desks now." Hermione laughed.

"Come on." she added seriously. "We better get started on those bookcases."

"Right." he said, still staring around the room then quickly followed her into the dark room behind McGonagall's desk.

Hermione flicked the light switch on. Soon the light filled up the room. Hermione sighed at the sight of the three bookcases.

"Say, how come you didn't use that spell when we had to clean the Great Hall?" he asked.

000000000

After nearly four hours of arguing, flirting, and rearranging the books, they were finally done.

Hermione gave a sigh of relief as she plopped into one of the chairs that sat in between two of the bookcases.

"Ah. Hermione." Draco said tiredly as he leaned against the wall. "We forgot a book." he looked down at the floor across the room. Hermione followed his gaze. She slid down farther in her chair at the sight of the book, which lay open on the floor.

"Please tell me we're not going to have to redo all of these bookcases, Hermione."

Hermione gave another sigh as she got up but didn't answer. She picked up the book, closing it as she did and stared at the cover.

"This book looks familiar." she thought. She saw that there was a red velvet bookmark sticking out of the book a little.

Hermione opened it to the page. "The Polyjuice Potion. Why would McGonagall have a book on the Polyjuice Potion?"

Hermione shrugged it off, thinking of a logical explanation. Not really caring about the book, Draco asked, "So why did you do it?"

"Do what?" Hermione replied, stuffing the book back on the bookshelf.

Draco gave a sigh of frustration.

"Why did you kiss Harry?"

"For the last time, Draco. I didn't kiss Harry. He kissed me."

"Yeah, well I didn't see you pushing him away." he said getting defensive. "Yet somehow lately, every time I try to kiss you or hug you, you seem to push me away."

"Well, gee, Malfoy. I only caught you…. screwing Pansy in my bed." Suddenly it got quiet.

Hermione stood there, her arms wrapped around her stomach. She bit her lower lip as she rubbed her left hand up and down on her right arm.

Her gaze fell to the floor.

Draco looked into her eyes. They were full of sadness and tears.

"I-I'm…I'm sorry." he moved closer to her. Suddenly she fell into his arms and began to cry.

"I'm s-sorry. I guess I just wanted to get back at you. But….I think I might have went too far." he spoke softly in her ear as he held her close to him. After all, what he really wanted… was her.

"Well, I don't understand why it was such a big deal that Harry kissed me." she blurted out lifting her head off Draco's chest. "Its not like you and I are going out." He let go of her. "Like I told you so many times, Harry is my friend. And although I love him…..he will always be.. just a friend." she took Draco's hand. "I love you, Draco. And nothing will ever change that. No matter who leaves or enters my life. Just because Harry kissed me, doesn't mean it meant anything to me because frankly, I didn't feel anything. Every time you and I kiss, I feel something I have never felt before in my whole entire life. So if loving you is so wrong, then I guess I stand guilty as charged and frankly I don't want to be right."

He pulled her closer once again.

"What am I doing to her. She stood here spilling her guts out to me and basically this whole time I've been playing her. But I really do love her. I've always loved her. But no matter how many times I've told myself she was just a bet, I was really saying 'love you, Hermione. I love you.' I mean, If I didn't really love you, I don't think I would have went through all that trouble just to get back at you. After all that time of playing that silly little game, the bet, all those times I told you that I love you, it turns out I really meant those words. But it took me until just now to admit it to myself. It took me until just now to believe that I really love you."
