The Hardy Boys

A Sick Switch

Summary: Ever wonder if Frank got held back a year? In a book I have he does. Why you ask, some may think of it as brotherly love but in a different way then you my think.

Warning! This is not a mystery story; it is when Frank and Joe are younger before they become full detectives. They help with little things. This story is about sickness, healing, and brotherly love.

Chapter one

So it begins

"Frank, do you read me, over," said fifteen year old Joe Hardy into his walkie talkie. He had been trying to get his brother on the walkie talkie for about two minutes now. To be completely honest with himself, he was starting to worry about him.

"I wish he would answer." He said putting the walkie talkie to his mouth again. "Come on Frank, if you don't answer I'm going to have to radio dad and he won't let us help in anther case again. Do you want that? I don't." He added some sarcasm to the end of his sentence hoping to get his brother to answer.

.....................................................................................................................

What Joe didn't know was that his brother couldn't hear him. He had turned off his walkie talkie so that it wouldn't give away his position to the smugglers he was watching. Watching with a capital W. That's all he and Joe ever did watch, and watch. When would they be considered grown up enough to really help their dad with real cases, after all they were sixteen and fifteen.

Just as Frank was about to go back around the corner and radio his brother, he saw them make a move. The man in the black trench coat whom Frank thought was the leader, Malick as his father called him, brought a box to the middle of the room and opened it. Frank's mouth dropped open, there in the box were four sets of illegal guns, they had them.

Frank went around the corner as fast as he could, but before he reached it a wave of dizziness swapped over him, he reached out to grab the wall to steady himself, but instead of the wall he hit cans that were piled up against it, crash! Bang! Swoosh! Soon Frank found himself on the floor staring at a gun pointed at his face. Frank looked over the gun to see who was holding it, Malick. Frank closed his eyes and readied himself to take the bullet that he knew he was about to take. But nothing happened.

Frank opened his brown eyes for them to come in contact with worried dark blue ones.

"Frank, are you alright?" Joe asked as he helped his brother to his feet.

"Yeah, I'm fine," said Frank giving a thank you smile to his brother. "But how did you know to come."

"You radioed us, don't you remember?" Joe asked with concern.

Frank thought for a moment then he remembered that he was able to get his radio on and yell something he couldn't remember before he fell onto the cans and gave away his position.

"Oh right now I remember," said Frank rubbing his forehead.

"Are you sure you're okay? Maybe you hit your head when you fell," said Joe as their father walked up to them.

"Good job Frank, you called us in right at the right moment, I really think Malick will be going away for a long time this time," said Mr. Hardy as looked his sons over to make sure that they were alright.

"Thanks Dad, I think your-," Frank began, but he never finished the sentence for anther wave of dizziness took him and this time it took him all the way to unconsciousness.
