Something that came to me yesterday afternoon while watching the rain and listening to Faithless song "evergreen".

They don't belong to me (sigh...)

Evergreen

The scent of rain invaded her soul, refreshing her burning heart. She leaned further in the chair and watched the rain falling, washing the world's sins, lies and hypocrisy away. Despite the dullness of the day everything seemed to be brighter. She sipped a little more of her lukewarm tea savoring its flowery taste. The trees in front of her were gently swaying and she could feel the wind's moist and silky caress on her bare arms. She pulled the silk sheet she was wrapped in, closer around her body. The air was heavy, thick with moist chilling her to the bones. But she didn't care, the young woman basked in the peacefulness of her surroundings. The moment was perfect, a drop of eternity frozen in time.

It wasn't meant to last; dark clouds were slowly massing upon their future. Coming back to sanctuary tomorrow would not be easy. Hiding what had happened during those few days would be even more difficult. But something deep in her mind kept telling her, they couldn't speak about their newfound love to their friends. They would not understand or worst, they would reject them. She sat there watching the changing shades of gray of the clouds. Everything about this very moment reminded her of a sword, double edged, one side happiness and ignorance the other sadness and knowledge.

The young woman felt Adam's hand gently brush her bare shoulder. Emma looked up and met his heated gaze. The world zeroed to his eyes and presence. Slowly he leaned and their lips met for a gentle loving kiss. After a few seconds, they parted and Adam sat on the armrest leaving his arm around her shoulders lightly caressing her bare arm.

"Hey"

"Hey yourself."

The two lovers sat there in silence, watching the rain falling, as the night expanded it's blanket of darkness on the world.

"Adam..."

He felt her reluctance to leave the house that had become their home and go back. He felt the same. Being in a closed space with 3 observant people like Shal, Brennan and Jesse was not easy when you wanted to keep something secret, especially when it was a love affair. He knew they couldn't speak of it. Being unable to touch her, kiss her whenever he wanted was ripping his heart apart.

"Yes Emma, I know I don't want to go back either. But we have a mission and ..."

"I know my love. And I understand. It's just that, here we are free. We don't have to worry about the others walking on us. We don't have to hide the wonderful gift we have."

The young woman looked up and found him staring at her with loving eyes. She became lost in the moment, the rain and the wind forgotten. He was always mesmerized by the way she would think and speak of them. Slowly he got up extending his hand in a silent invitation. She put her hand in his and followed him in the cabin.

They still had that night.
