A/N: This is my first CCD published fic, although I have haunted the fandom for months. However, it merely exists simply because I wanted to write the dialogue in the last five paragraphs. I'm sorry if everyone is out of character. They probably are, although I think Bran and Trishe are all right. And, now (fanfare) for the disclaimer: I don't own it.
Oh, and a rant about spell-check: mine tried to turn Athanarel into Nathaniel. I'm not sure I see the connection...
In Which a Letter is Found and Bran Learns Something
Savona flounced into the stables one morning, letter firmly in hand. He grinned at them all, and then said, "I couldn't get Danric out here for the life of me. But I did get this..." and he held out the letter for all to see.
"What is it?" Trishe asked, confused, as she took the missive.
Savona grinned again. "Proof of what we all knew but had no evidence."
Everyone gather around Trishe, and looked at the letter.
Today I have come to two realizations. Now, I well realize that every courtier in Athanarel saw this by their tenth year....
Nee read the letter through twice and said, "Well, that's Mel's handwriting, all right. But who's it written to?"
Savona grinned again, wider than before (if possible). "Well, I found it amongst Danric's personal belongings in the memoir archive." He shook his head, and said, obviously trying not to laugh, "I knew he had sent her gifts, but letters? I had no clue—"And he promptly dissolved in childish giggles, doubling over in laughter.
Tamara, who was surprisingly quiet, looked at Savona and sniffed disdainfully.
Trishe looked at him, a memory flickering over her face. "Wait. He sent her the ring?"
Savona, slowly calming down, managed to nod. "And after that, a rose—"he laughed again, and added, "he thinks she despises him—despite all the letters somewhat say otherwise."
Renna nodded, amusement flickering over her face, and added, "They're in love. They're just too idiotic to realize it."
(Well, everyone knew Vidanric and Meliara were both smart. They just lacked a little...sense sometimes. And both were probably in denial, too, so that added to the mix.)
Bran, who could be slow on the uptake at times (and was now) said, "D'you mean...my sister—and Danric?"
Everyone nodded at him, including Tamara and Savona, who had been bickering over something pointless.
Bran continued. "And everyone in Court realizes this, except them?"
They nodded again, as Nee added playfully, "Well, them, and you."
