Harvest Moon: A Link Life

Prologue

PG for fantasy violence

This is a kinda confusing loose Malink romance story (MALON AND LINK FOREVER!!!), but I really like it. Don't be mislead by the prologue, Malon is the girl of the story. This is the first romance I have EVER written...Please R&R!

Disclaimer: If I had permission to use stuff from OOT and MM, this wouldn't be here. It would be an all rights reserved or something.

Link stepped out of his house in the middle of the night. He slid down his ladder and snuck over to where his horse, Epona was tethered. With him, he carried all he owned, it wasn't much. Just a slingshot, a few sets of clothes, and his blanket. Link brushed his hand over Epona's head.

"Epona, wake up, we're leaving..." he whispered to her.

Epona shook her white mane and opened her eyes.

Navi flew out of the house, "Link! This is a bad idea! No Kokiri ever leaves the forest!"

Link ignored the fairy. Epona didn't have a proper saddle so Link threw his blanket over her bare back. Then he straddled her softly.

"C'mon girl, lets go..."

"No Link! You belong here!"

He sent Epona in a slow walk to the entrance. Then, Link started to have regrets. The forest was his home. He remembered all the fun things he had done with Saria, playing in the Sacred Forest Meadow, the Lost Woods, admiring her...

He wiped the tears from his eyes, this wasn't where he belonged, he was leaving.

"Please, please Link, stay here!" Navi begged flying behind him.

"You don't have to come if you don't want to, Navi."

"Remember the last time you left? Doesn't that matter to you?"

Link winced as he remembered the last time he had left the forest to stake it out on his own. He had come crawling back, with only Epona to show that he had done something. But he had to go, his spirit demanded it, it was in his blood.

"I'm not staying in Hyrule this time," Link replied, "I'm going to Termina."

"No! Wrong! Bad idea!" Navi cried, "Termina is farther away, several days away! You'll never make it! Just stay here, forever, with the Kokiri!"

"But I can't Navi," Link said softly passing over the log leading out to Hyrule, "I'm not a Kokiri, I'm aging past ten...If I stay here for long, everyone will find out and I'll have to leave or turn into a Skull Kid..." He had seen those strange children in the Lost Woods, they looked so sad, never to leave the forest, he didn't want that to happen to him.

"So, that's why..." said a new voice. Link didn't want to turn around for the fear he would never turn back to his path.

"Link," Saria said, walking up to him, "You're not one of us?"

"G-go away Saria!" Link shouted still staring forward, "I'm going! I-I-I."

Saria came right up beside Epona and handed up a bundle to Link.

"I knew you would be going...you were getting so quiet, like last time."

Link looked down at Saria, her head was hanging down as both arms raised the package up to him. He gently lifted the package up with both hands. Saria's arms dropped limply to her side.

"A gift," she said, head still down, "For you. Some rations, and..."

Link opened the package and found Saria's ocarina within the folds.

Saria raised her head, tears welling up in her eyes, "Play it and remember me, Link."

Link sharply closed the pack and whipped his head away, "Y-you should have come, Saria! It's hard enough...!" Navi grabbed on to Link's shirt as spurred Epona into a run, leaving Saria behind with one hand on the log and the other clutching her throat. She sank to her knees and sobbed.

Short here, but it is the prologue, it may seem sappy or cheesy, just play "Sadness and Sorrow" by Toshiro Masuda and it'll get better :p.
