The Eye of the Storm
He ran as fast as he could; running from Death. Loner's thoughts were a tangled mess inside his head, and he barely noticed the thunder and rain as he ran through the city.
Why my brother? He screamed silently, Why my eleven-year-old brother? He did nothing wrong! Punish me!!
But his pleads were answered only by lightning striking the ground three yards away. God would not bring his brother back.
Embrace drove through the flooded streets in a mad rush; trying to drown out her pain. The lights seemed only a blur through her fresh tears.
She hated God. She hated him for taking her life, once so familiar and peaceful, and shredding it beyond recognition.
What did I do? She cried aloud, How can anyone possibly deserve this? But no one was there to comfort and assure her now.
She was alone.
Seto Kaiba collapsed on the side of the road. He let his tears betray him. And so he lay, wanting to die, his only companions grief, and anger, and confusion.
A car skidded to a stop near him, but he paid it no attention.
"You'll get a fever out here in the rain, sir," a voice chocked with sobs cried over the wind.
Seto didn't hear though, he had locked out every soul on this Earth.
Embrace saw a body laying in the gutters. She stopped and called out to it. No answer.
Upon closer look, she found it was a boy, around her age that she'd seen at school. A popular boy. She extended a hand to him.
For a moment, nothing happened, then, this boy took the offer and allowed himself to be pulled to his feet, and curled in the backseat of the car.
The next thing Kaiba knew, he was curled before a fireplace, wrapped in blankets belonging to a girl he'd never actually met, just seen passing in the hallways at school. She was quiet and shy, with eyes that he could tell had once shone with brilliance, but had been beaten too many times to maintain that sparkle. He'd seen that look in the eyes of his brother.
Embrace noticed the tears streaked across Kaiba's face. She let her guard down for a moment, and pulled him into her arms, stroking his back and holding him close. She felt him shiver in her arms. Poor thing, she thought, something's hurt him badly.
