Itsuki's Dream
By the Rurouni Idoru
A/N: This is the first in a series of YYH songfics I have in mind. They're each from the POV of the character in the title. If you have any songs that you'd like to suggest for this series, I'd be overjoyed if you'd tell them to me! This one (obviously) focuses on Itsuki, the Gatekeeper. The song is "Only Dreaming" By K's Choice.
Disclaimer: I could never claim to be responsible for the wonderful series Yu Yu Hakusho, or the uber-awesome music of K's Choice. I just write fanfics.
The tunnel was widening. I saw it, I felt it, I knew it. Soon, it would be time. I gazed up solemnly at him. Of course, this was all his idea. He was the brilliant mind behind it all. I was just there to help. All I had to do at this point was sit in the boat and wait. Outside, they were coming. We all knew it. I knew Shinobu was anticipating it. I, however, was going out of my head with worry, anxiousness. Would it all be worth it? Would it be worth all of this time spent, time wasted? A part of me felt that it wouldn't. A part of me felt like I should have just never bothered with the Reikai Tantei, Sensui. A part of me felt as if all of my adoration, my obsession, my love, all of it was a complete waste. As if there were anyone else who could ever deserve it. While I had time left to reflect on these things, I decided I would.
I'm sure you're only dreaming
You're only juggling with my mind
While I feel more and more like screaming
For the scar you left behind...
All of the silent rejection weighed heavily on my soul. He always had so many aspirations, so much to think about. And what did I want? Him. Only him. Perhaps it was his approval I wanted. Perhaps I wanted him to see me as something more than a companion. No, I can't lie. I wanted him for my lover. I wanted him to feel the way I felt about him. If I hadn't been so in love with him, there's no way the plan would have gotten this far this quickly. I knew the current Tantei could be at odds with the object of my affections. I also knew about the advantages that the both of them had. Shinobu was experienced, powerful, and versatile. Yusuke, however, was young, speedy, reckless, and amazingly lucky. It could easily go either way. Both of the Tantei beleived strongly in their side of the conflict. They were both unflinching in their decisions.
It was amazing how much I wanted Shinobu to win.
I'm sure you're only dreaming
I'm sure we're just a part
Of what the lucky man believes in
I'm sure you know this song by heart...
Our captive, Kuwabara, began shouting. It was as if he could read my thoughts, and they worried him.
"Hurry up, Urameshi!" He shouted it towards the entrance of the cave, as if Yusuke could hear him. Shinobu, meanwhile, was contendedly watching a Vietnam-themed movie. It wasn't the sort of thing you'd see on Lifetime, I was sure of that. Of course, Kuwabara neglected that Shinobu was busy and completely forgot his manners. "Come here so you can kick this guy's--"
"Quiet down. This is an important scene." I lifted my eyes slightly. Shinobu had such charisma. It's not hard to see how I fell in love.
You're only dreaming, I think I can hear you talk
You're only dreaming, I think I can hear you say, 'shut up'
You're only dreaming, I hope your dream is in me
You're only dreaming you're free...
Time was running out. Amanuma, the Game Master, could not hold his own for much longer. I could feel it. The tunnel was growing steadily. Youkai were gathering around it, hoping to get out. Shinobu smiled as his film reached a turning point.
Then came the tremor. This is where it all changed. The tremor signified that Amanuma was dead. His territory was gone. They were coming. The only obstacle left before Yusuke could take on Shinobu was Gourmet. Honestly, I had a feeling that that bout wouldn't take too long. It was the end game, the final fight between Tantei...that was what would be the epic tale.
You will show up while I'm dreaming
Out of nowhere cross my way
You will ask me not to scream and
You will smile and you will say, 'dear friend,
You're only dreaming, I think I can hear you talk
You're only dreaming, I think I can hear you say, 'shut up'
You're only dreaming, I hope your dream is in me
You're only dreaming you're free
You're only dreaming
You're only dreaming
You're only dreaming, dreaming...
You're only dreaming
You're only dreaming
You're only dreaming, dreaming...'
The end was fast approaching. Little did I know just how long it would take, and how much damage it would do.
But now, now I can dream forever.
