"Hey Wally?"

The red-clad, smiling speedster bolted up in his seat when he heard Supergirl's voice. She was a dazzling little blonde that Flash wouldn't mind getting to know.

In more ways than one, of course.

"Could I ask you a question?"

"Sure." He patted the seat beside him as an invitation to sit down. "What's on your mind?"

Kara gladly took his offer and folded her hands in her lap. Simultaneously, she bit her lower lip and made eye contact.

She is a total babe.

"Who is Shayera?"

His jaw nearly dropped, but his eyes grew wide with surprise. No one had uttered that name since...

Since she had resigned.

"Why?" was all the hero could muster. He had wanted to talk about his friend for so long, but it had been an unspoken rule to avoid mentioning her or what she had done.

Especially around John.

"When Lantern woke on the Javelin, he called out that name. I was curious, and I figured you'd know because you guys –"

"That's Hawkgirl."

Kara's words stopped. It was as if she had crossed a forbidden, invisible line. The new Leaguer had ventured into the past, a past where Hawkgirl belonged and she did not, a past that had not only hurt the League but had made them stronger, a past that...

Reminded Flash of all he had lost. He wasn't the kid anymore and hadn't been for sometime now. He missed being so carefree, knowing Superman and the others had his back... knowing she had his back.

He missed her the most.

"I'm sorry."

Flash shook himself from his thoughts and gave Supergirl a brilliant smile. "Don't be. It's a good question."

Already feeling the awkward vibes leaking from her teammate, Kara stood. "I'll see you later, then." She hurried out of the room without another word.

As if on cue, GL came in with that hovering chair Bats had created. Although a bit battered and bruised, John didn't look so bad.

"Hey, Hotshot."

"Hey," Flash responded softly.

Lantern raised an eyebrow. "Something wrong, kid?"

Flash shook his head slowly and said, "No."

"Okay." John backed out the doorway, leaving the young Wally West to his thoughts.

He just wondered if John missed her as much as he did.

If he missed her at all, he hid it well.

) END (

It was something I wrote in ten minutes in reaction to John's cry. Maybe he's hiding his pain from the others... to well.
