Birthday Girl
The common room is alive with laughter. Everybody's either dancing or talking having a great time at this party, all for one special reason, for you.
You have a crown resting upon your head. It's a beautiful golden crown that Hermione charmed to glisten like gold and it has beautiful jewels on it, not real of course. It's a wonderful crown, you think, it must've taken her days to make it. You smile slightly, all your friends care about you so much.
You're sitting on the floor in front of the couch a big group of the people closest to your heart surrounding you. You feel Harry's arm around your waist and turn towards him and smile; you don't think he's ever paid you so much attention. He hasn't left your side all day. Not this morning when he took your hand and led you to breakfast or after when you spent the day with him in Hogsmeade. Every second of the day he was by your side making your dreams come true.
You spot Ron and Hermione dancing slowly in a corner. You smile witnessing this. They're perfect for each other, you think, like Harry's perfect for me. But you don't dwell on Hermione and Ron or even Harry for that matter. Today's your day, your special day and it's going to be the best Birthday you've ever had.
The group surrounding you starts to joke around and you know you haven't laughed this hard in a long time. Your best friend, Samantha, is bringing up the past embarrassing you about that Valentines you sent Harry years ago or those times when Dennis would always follow you around. You smile even wider when Ron comes over and you start playing Truth or Dare. You always have the most fun playing that game.
Around midnight a huge cake is brought to the table where you're sitting. It looks like a delicious chocolate cake with chocolate icing and even more chocolate sprinkles. You listen to these people, your friends and family, singing in celebration of your birth. All here to celebrate the day you came into their lives. It's your day, and nothing can be more special then the way it is right now.
You close your eyes and blow out the candles smiling the whole time. You open your eyes as Hermione takes every candle out and starts to cut the cake. Harry, the joker he's become, takes his finger, smears your name, and wipes it on your nose. You look at him, this boy loved since you were eleven, and like a dream he starts to lean, and he kisses you. You know now that dreams do come true.
You wake up suddenly and sit up straight in your bed. Your dormitory is dark and it takes you second to realize where you are, what day it is. You look around the room and slowly get out of bed and get dressed. You look out the window and wipe a lone tear from your cheek, the celebration still echoing in your ear.
You spend the day in the Astronomy Tower watching the snow heavily falling to the ground. Your tears are present throughout the day and you can't help but think that there's not a soul in this world who would want to spend this day with you, that not a soul cares. There were no cards or presents for you today. No Harry and Hogsmeade and no crown that took days to work on.
Today's your birthday, you sweet sixteen. Today's the day you came into this world, into all these people lives. You remember the celebrations of your past with your family and you close your eyes remembering their smiling faces and cry harder with the final realization that your parents, your wonderful, perfect parents, will never celebrate a birthday with you again. You're alone, you think, no one here to wish you good luck on your new year, nothing for company today but a cold dark tower and your immense imagination. You look out the window again watching the snow covering the green grounds of Hogwarts. Dreams never will come true.
