A/N: Sup people? This is the next chapter of Fairy Tales, parts may confuse you because I'm not sure that I entirely get it but I hope you like it. Also because it's been such a long time since I updated I recommend that you read the last chapter before reading this one so that it makes sense. On that note sorry for the very, very late update but I just finished my exams and athletics season has started, so I'm busy. Oh yeah, there are some flashbacks…
Thank you's are at the end as per usual.
Reminiscences of a Hero
Jogging through the thick smoke that clouded the park, Rei was becoming more and more agitated. Her head jotted from side to side as she squinted her eyes to see through the hazy smoke, she began scanning the scene for a secluded area. She let out a breath of relief when she spotted a garden sitting on the left of the concrete path she was currently on. The white flowers jotted boldly out of the crisp browning leaves as the bush of delphiniums circled round a large green pool. The waters were bordered by glossy, coloured pebbles all different in sizes. A line of squawking ducks protruded out of the pond as they hurried into the shelter of the surrounding shrub. Iron benches laden with sculpted roses were scattered round the garden, electric 'old fashioned' lanterns were placed delicately at the feet of the benches.
The winds increased its speed and became restless blowing the petals off of the deadly flowers, sending then soaring into the air. Packs of birds flew hastily away from the scene, their terrified calls barely heard over people's petrified screams. The explosions in the background now illuminated the dark heavens as the sun had left the fearful site.
She entered the area through a gap in the flowers, normally she would have stopped to marvel at the picturesque setting but she was occupied with muttering curses at the 'dumb-ass youma'. An awkward yet familiar smell caught her nostrils and she scrunched up her features in disgust, her head turned towards the source. Anger radiated out of her in heat waves as she saw a sight that made her heart and mind fill with dread. White feathers lay in mirroring pools of red, once colourless wings were now stained with irremovable dye, orange beaks bounded with black fur were buried deep into the gravel, unmoving lids now covered onyx orbs. Positioned carelessly at the edge of the pond lay a family of dead swans. Rei's jaw tightened and her teeth gritted together, she could not believe that creature had destroyed such beauty. Pissed of she pulled out her pen from the pocket of her red knee-length coat only to stuff it speedily back in. Her mind instantly forgot the sickening sight on the ground as she surveyed the figure sitting casually on one of the many benches, an arm was slung heedlessly over the back of the bench and the figure's back was pressed into the rear of the bench. Her violet eyes flashed with recognition. Slowly a smile forced it's ways on to her lips before a laugh escaped her.
Trowa sat on the bed his bruised back propped up against pillows at the head of the bed. It had been half an hour since he had received the news and Makoto had left him to be by himself. The blue lights of the TV played of the walls, creating eerie shadows around the room. The brunette sat in silence surrounded by cobalt, his expression was difficult to read as his face was seemingly melted into the darkness.
He had muted the television some time ago not interested in the a troubled teenager on the screen's adventure through adolescence. He resented the self- pitying boy living in the box perched high on the wall, at least the boy had had a childhood, some sense of normalcy in his life. The boy on screen was his antonym in so many ways. On the one hand you had a boisterous, self-absorbed blond, blue eyed boy that lived a privileged life then you had Trowa a conservative, kind man with dark hair and stunning green eyes, the eyes that had unblinkingly seen the blood of millions splattered . He was a solider with no family or memory apart from the ones he had created in the last few years of his life. He dared not sleep as in his dreams happy memories twisted into dark ones and unhappy memories fused together to turn his sleep into a fitful self-torture chamber.
As he sat staring at the luminous walls, his mind wondered back to the events of the day…
-- Trowa charged at Betsy, knowing that the fire senshi would have gone somewhere to transform. After doing minimal damage to the animal, he decided it was time to stop pissing around and pull out the big guns (not literally).
Betsy levitated in the air, knives appearing in her hard scaled hands. They flew towards Trowa at an alarming rate, he dodged the knives with ease, silently thanking Catherine and his days in the circus. Smiling, Betsy held out her hand palm upwards, small heat balls formed in their centre's, she tossed them at her current source of amusement only just missing him each time. The off target energy landed in deep in the ground creating small craters of smoke. The teasing smirk on her lips made Trowa realise that he was being toyed with.
He ran towards her ducking as she threw a half hearted punch at him and barged into her stomach effectively knocking the wind out of his opponent. The pair went flying towards the ground and Trowa landed on top of her and straddled her throwing a barrage of punches at her face.
Betsy seemed to have some kind of control over the wind and sent him flying towards a tree. His back hit the tree with an audible thump and he remained pinned there for a matter of seconds as Betsy regained her footing.
Where was heavy arms when you needed him?
Smirking she twisted her hand and he fell to the floor. His form lay crumpled on the floor. Betsy began laughing, a malicious cackle that made the ground vibrate. The pavement was now stained with blood that was oozing out of a gash from his left shoulder. His eyelids slid over his sparkling eyes as he tried desperately to get up and not to be defeated so easily. But he knew he was spent. He couldn't get up or even gather the will power to open his eyes, the only thing that he was capable of at that moment was to listen to the sounds of people's mortified screams at the malevolent havoc Betsy was no doubt spewing
"Rei," then there was darkness.--
He sat still, the blue hues still dancing round the room as the sounds slowly faded and his mind was blank for one second, one delicious second. No murderous cries or bloody visions plagued him. The darkness didn't last long as colour swirled to life in his minds eye.
-- Trowa flopped down on to the soft mattress, a soft smile playing on his lips. He stared at the white ceiling and enjoyed the gentle wind coming in from the open window, a sharp jab in his side brought him out of his reverie, rolling over he discovered a small hand-made book. Coloured pieces of paper were stapled together unevenly.
"Give me that," hissed a voice from the other side of the room. Trowa's hand tightened around the object before he raised one visible eyebrow. He looked at the girl opposite him, his emerald eyes smiling and defiantly began thumbing through the book.
"Give me that book," she repeated.
"Why?" he questioned, not looking up, "what's so special about it?"
His gaze flicked up as he felt the bed shift from another persons weight. Seeing the predatory glare in the other person's eyes he leapt from the bed and held the book upwards. As he expected the girl jumped up and tried in vain to reach the boy towering over her. The Gundam pilot began laughing at the fiery girl, his eyes twinkling with mischief but his gloating was cut short when she rugby tackled him onto the bed. She straddled him and took his surprise as an opportunity to grab the book from his hand.
Then leaning over him her raven hair long enough to frame both their faces she whispered smugly, "thank you."
She sat up not noticing that she was still seated on his lap, "why were you going through my personal belongings anyway?" she asked clutching the book to her chest.
Trowa propped himself up on his elbows, "I wasn't going through your stuff, I lay down on the bed and it poked me in the side, " he said pointing at the offending item, "it was it's own fault," then continuing with a grin , "besides if I was to look through your stuff, do you really think I'd be looking for a book?"
Hearing Trowa's bold statement a blush spread itself over her ivory cheeks. After a few seconds of silence, Trowa's eyebrow once again lifted towards his hair line. She looked at him questioningly, "What?"
"You planning on getting off me anytime soon?" he smirked.
She looked down at her position and her entire face turned a dark shade of crimson, "whatever, I know you like it," she said grinning praying that her statement would overshadow her red features.
He reached up to stroke her face and he stared at his hands in shock. His fingers were drenched with red liquid, his head shot up to the girls face, her eyes were watering with red fluid, blood was dripping out of her ears and nose and leaking out of the corners of her mouth.
"REI,"--
Tears spilled onto his cheeks, his chest heaved in and out as he took in huge gulps of air. Looking around at his surroundings he discovered he was still in the hospital, he mentally chided himself for falling asleep and tainting yet another memory.
Okay that was it, what did you think? I'm not going to lie to you and tell you that the next chapter is coming soon because it probably isn't. I'll try and write more often but I'm a busy person, so don't expect much.
