Ch6: distant relatives..
[Hammond's office]
"Doctor Frasier has given Luitenant Manslow the okay," Hammond explained to SG-1.
"So does that mean she's going to be assigned to a team?" Jack said chirpily, hands in his pockets, while rolling onto the balls of his feet than down again. "Namely, SG-1?"
Hammond sat back in his seat. "For the time being, were going to keep her on base for a while, build some trust," Hammond exlpained.
"So what is she going to do while staying here?" Sam asked.
"For the time being, she can assist each one of you," Hammond replied.
"In what?" Daniel asked.
"Do you mean, like a personal assistant?" Jack asked, casually leaning on the door frame.
Hammond nodded. "I find it is the best way for each of you to get to know her before she is assigned to your team," Hammond smiled.
Teal'c tilted his head. "General Hammond, I have nothing for luitenant Manslow to assist me in," Teal'c said.
Jack smacked Teal'c on the arm. "Sure there is! We can help her watch all the classic movies that she's probably never heard of. Take Starwars for example!" Jack emphasised. Teal'c nodded in compliance.

Nat sobbed silently as she read through the second journal that elderly Daniel gave her.
[Dec 24th, 2023]: Nat went home from the college a few days ago for the X- Mas weekend. I went to Sam and Jack's place today. Jack spent the whole day complaining that his bald patch is getting bigger. We all laughed when Teal'c said that 'being bald isn't so bad.' Sam keeps asking me to get bring Nat over. They're all eager to see her again. I told them that she'd have to see them when shes ready. If she meets them and they cry, then it's going to be pretty suspicious. Nat wouldn't have a clue at what's going on. I know it feels weird but after what happened to Nat, I feel like this is my chance to take it all back, to care for her, look after her and be her friend..
Nat was cut off by the sound of the door knocking.
"Come in!" she tried to say without sounding like she had been crying. Daniel, Teal'c, Jack and Sam entered the room to see Nat crying. Sam got to the bed first and sat next to Nat.
"Nat, what's wrong?" Sam asked, rubbing Nat's back. Nat sat up and closed the thick brown book.
"It's this stupid journal. I cant halp but wonder if Daniel, the one from my time died or not after I came through the gate," Nat sobbed. "And I cant help but wonder why I'm not in this second journal."
Jack looked confused. "You ARE in the journal."
"Myself as a 17 year old, yes. But not THIS me," She said, touching her chest. "The me here now with you guys, who when 2024 rolls up again, shouldn't I be in my forties?"
"Cheer up kiddo! You're probably around, just maybe Daniel doesn't mention you. Most kids your age don't worry about their forties yet. So just forget about it. Nothing's definite," Jack re-assured Nat. Everyone looked at Jack, surprised. "What?"
"Nat, Jack's right. Don't worry. Oh! We came here to tell you some good news!" Dan said excitedly. "General Hammond said that for the time being you're going to stay on the base, help us out wherever we need, kinda like a personal assistant. Then after a while, you'll get to be on SG-1 with us!" Daniel smiled. Nat's eyes widened.
"You're kidding! SG-1 with you guys! Back in my time all we could do was DREAM about something like this!" Nat squealed.
"So we're famous in the future eh? Can't wait till the future! O'Neill, two L's," jack said, holding up three fingers.
*unscheduled incoming wormhole*
Sg-1 ran out of the room and headed for the gate room. Nat jumped off the bed and followed.
"It's a Tok'ra signal sir."
"Open the iris."
Sg-1 lined up next to General Hammond in the gate room. Nat stood at the end of the line, next to Teal'c. They all watched the shimmering pool of water to see who would come through. Jacob and Martouf ran through the gate and down the ramp so fast that they almost crashed into General Hammond and Jack.
"Jacob, are you alright?" Hammond asked, seeing Jacob holding his shoulder. Their clothes were dirty and Jacob had taken a staff weapon hit to the shoulder.
"Hey George. Don't worry, it's nothing that Selmac cant handle. We came because we need your help," Jacob explained.
Jack smiled. "Leme guess, you're going to explain on the way? Because this time we ain't moving unless you explain what's going on." Jack said sternly.
Natalie looked at Martouf and nearly cried. "Martouf?" Nat asked, holding back her tears.
Martouf looked at her funny. "Yes." Nat took a step closer to Marty.
"You're alive? All this time.. she prayed you were alive.." Nat mumbled. Everyone turned and looked at the conversation that was taking place.
"What are you talking about? Of course he's alive!" Jack poked Marty.
Nat wiped away her tears. "Remember when I told you I was a Tok'ra? Well, on one of my missions, we found a Tok'ra named Kayleen," Nat began to explain.
Marty's eyes also began to water. "You found Kayleen? Where is she!?" Marty demanded.
"Kayleen was dying when we found her, so I took her symbiote Kian and became its new host," Nat explained. Then she turned n faced Martouf. "Kayleen tried her hardest to find you. She wanted to say sorry for what she said to you that day the Goul'd took over your planet. She spent the rest of her life hoping to find you again. But in my time, when I'd become her host, you were already-"
"Okay. That's enough. No more fortune telling!" Jack waved his hands up in the air as he cut off Nat. He then turned to Marty. "Who is Kayleen? And what DID she say on the day the Goul'd took over?"
Marty wiped his eyes. "She was my sister. Just before the Goul'd attacked my planet, we had a fight, and loosely translated, she called me a scrawny, ugly son of Apophis," Marty laughed.
Jacob scratched his nearly bald head. "What do you mean by 'in your time'?" He asked Nat. Jack stepped in and put his arm around Jacob, leading him out of the gate room.
"I'll explain on the way. So tell us more about this threat that needs our help."
[briefing room]
"You chose what?! Why on earth would you pick one of Nerti's old planets for your second base!?" Jack yelled across the table.
Jacob huffed. "It was a deserted planet and we thought it would b the last place any Goul'd would look" Jacob explained as calmly as he could.
"Lemme guess.. Nerti came back," Daniel asked sarcastically.
"How'd u no?" Marty replied.
"That's what always happens."
General Hammond stood up. "Sg-1 suit up and be ready to go ASAP. Dismissed," He ordered.
"May I request this girl-" Marty began but was cut off my Nat.
"It's Nat," Nat said to Marty. Marty nodded in thanks.
"Nat, to come also. We have much to talk about," Martouf requested. Everyone else in the room didn't move, waiting for Hammond's decision.
"She's already trained and is SG-1 in her time. And we could always use another helping hand," Jack explained.
General Hammond nodded. "Very well." He turned to Nat. "Consider this you're trial period as an SG-1 member," He pointed out. Nat saluted and ran out of the room with Daniel and Sam. Hammond then turned to Jack. "Colonel, I can't send you any back up because all the other teams are home for the Thanks-Giving holiday." Jack nodded and ran to get suited up.
