Ch12: picking up the pieces
Nat woke up, finding herself in the infirmary with Dr. Frasier by her side.
"Welcome back lieutenant," Janet smiled.
"I'm free.." Nat whispered. All the memories of the gate room came flooding back. "Oh my God. How is everyone!? How's Daniel?" Nat cried as she tried to get up off the bed. Janet put her hands on Nat's shoulders, pushing her back onto the bed.
"They're all fine. Everyone's a little battered and bruised. Teal'cs got a broken arm and you gave Jacob a few broken ribs," Janet explained. Janet moved the curtain so that Nat could see the bed next to her own. "When Nerti threw Sam against the wall, Sam hit her head and has been unconscious ever since."
"I'm so sorry!" Nat cried. Janet passed Nat a tissue. Teal'c and Jack entered the room as Nat wiped her eyes.
"Nat, how are you feeling?" Jack asked.
"Guilty. I am so sorry about all this," Nat replied. Jack put his hand on Nat's shoulder.
"Don't be sorry kiddo. You didn't know that this would all happen. Teal'c arm and Jacobs ribs will heal really soon and Sam.. that was Nerti's fault. And how DID Nerti get here?" Jack asked.
"Nerti followed us back from the Tok'ra base that we went to a while ago. And yes this is partly my fault because I told Amaunet that I was willing to trade myself for Sha'res freedom," Nat mumbled. She looked at the shocked expressions on Jack's and Teal'c faces. "Oh, so Daniel didn't tell you that?" Nat mumbled.
"You traded yourself for Sha're?" Jack repeated.
"I knew you had a fishy look on your face that day you went to talk to Sha're!" Jacob squealed. Jack, Teal'c and Nat looked around confused.
"Jacob? Where are you?" Jack looked around the room. Dr. Frasier moved the curtain on the other side of Sam's bed to reveal Jacob lying in bed with his chest wrapped up in bandages.
"Didn't I tell you it's bad to eavesdrop on other people's conversations!" Jack joked. Jacob tried to manage a laugh without hurting his ribs. Nat apologized to him for the broken ribs.
"Natalie Manslow, please continue you explanation on why you would trade yourself for Sha're," Teal'c instructed.
"Well I did it because I know how much Daniel loved Sha're. He would always talk about her in my time. I wanted to do something nice for him," Nat commented.
"Nat, Daniel broke up with Sha're yesterday." Jack explained. Nat was left speechless.
"But Daniel Jackson did get closure while Sha're was here," Teal'c commented. Nat didn't know what to say. Daniel broke it off with Sha're? Was he glad she traded places with Sha're or would he have preferred that Sha're never came back?
"How is Daniel?" Nat managed to ask.
"After his check-up in the infirmary, he's been in his study ever since. I think he's got a lot on his mind."
Nat asked Janet when she could leave the infirmary. "Today," Janet replied. "General Hammond has ordered you and the rest of Sg-1 to have some time off. When you leave the infirmary I want you to go home and rest."
"Can I see Daniel first?" Natalie asked.
"I don't think that's a good idea kiddo. Wait until he comes out of his study," Jack replied. "Go home and rest it off for a few days. Take up a hobby. Golf maybe?"
The others didn't know that Daniel was standing in the hallway listening to the whole conversation.

"Amaunet, why did exile your traitorous maid instead of torturing her for information?" Apophis asked. Amaunet continued to lie on the cushioned floor. Her silk dress was loose around the shoulders and her hair was held up in a bun with gold bands. Apophis lay on the cushions, which covered the floor. He lay next to his wife and rested his head on her shoulder.
"My lord, the knowledge I gained from the 'Tauri host had the memories of the traitor. The planet I exiled her to will be torture enough to satisfy me. And I think the new information I gained about the 'Tauri will satisfy you," Amaunet/Sha're replied, stroking her husband's hair.
"As you wish, my love," Apophis got up and held Amaunet's face in his hands. "Next time I wish to be informed before you make a decision such as this."
"As you wish my lord," Amaunet smiled before she moved in to kiss her lover.
