***author's notes: a short chapter, but I liked it so much I didn't think there needed to be anymore! And im trying to branch off a bit so that the entire story ISNT about dan/nat. let me no wat u guys think!**
It was 8:30am. Martouf sat on the side of Sam's bed and watched her intently. Frasier had come in and checked Sam's vitals for the fifth time that morning, and then closed the curtains around Sam's bed when she left. Janet knew that if Sam were awake, she'd be glaring at Janet for playing matchmaker. Martouf took Sam's hand in his, just as he had been doing when he stayed by her side the entire night. Only this time, when he entwined his fingers with Sam's, he could hear a faint moan coming from Sam.
"Sam?" Marty whispered. He lightly tapped Sam's hand, hoping that it would wake her. And it did. Sam's eyelids opened slowly. She looked confused. She looked at Martouf, then around the room.
"Martouf? What happened?" Sam asked quietly. Martouf explained to her how she hit her head pretty bad.
"I prayed that you would wake up soon. How are you feeling?" He asked. He helped Sam to sit up properly.
"Not too bad. My head hurts a lot though. You think you could use that Goul'd healing device to fix this headache?" She requested. Martouf nodded and left his spot on the bed to go get it. Once he healed Sam, Martouf sat back down next to Sam on the bed.
"Sam," Martouf began, again taking Sam's hand in his own. Sam always felt comfortable with Marty, and holding his hand made her heart flutter. "I know this may be the wrong time and place to ask you this, but after fearing that you may never wake up, I feel that one should never wait to ask a question such as this."

Natalie woke up with the sun in her eyes. She cursed out loud for forgetting to close the blinds last night. She looked at her clock. 9:26am. She stared at the roof and wondered why she could smell like something was cooking. 'Note to self. Take keys off Teal'c.' Nat thought to herself as she rolled out of bed. Just as Nat reached the doorway to the kitchen, Nat mumbled "Teal'c! I know I said for you to keep the keys to my apartment, but I didn't know you'd be practically living with me-" Nat cut off quickly when she saw that it wasn't Teal'c in her kitchen. Daniel turned around to face Nat with a spatula in his hand. "Daniel?"
"Hi Nat. How are you feeling?" Daniel asked. Nat felt weird that he was there because Jack had told her to stay away from Daniel for the time being. But she figured that doesn't count because Dan was in her apartment, in an apron that said 'kiss the cook.' She tried not to laugh at the sight of Daniel in that apron.
"I'm feeling alright. How are you? How did you get in here? What are you cooking?" Nat replied. She couldn't help it, but all the questions just came out all at once.
"Good, Teal'c gave me the keys, and I'm cooking bacon and eggs. I hope you like it," Daniel replied as he flipped the bacon pieces in the fry pan.
"Thank-you for breakfast.. but I don't like eggs," Nat replied quietly, as if the lowered volume wouldn't hurt Daniel's feelings.
"You don't eat eggs?"
"They taste funny."
"Okay.. there goes my idea of the perfect breakfast," Dan said sarcastically then thought for a few seconds. "Okay, I'll eat the eggs and you get majority of the bacon," Daniel smiled. Nat nodded in agreement with a smile on her face. Daniel laughed.
"What's so funny!" Nat squealed.
"Your hair. The bed-head look is just fabulous!" Daniel joked in a gay high- pitched voice. Nat tried her best to flatten her bed-hair look into something more decent. Dan's stopped laughing and his face gained a more thoughtful look. "Come here," Daniel ushered. He watched her walk over to him and he put his arm around her as soon as she got close enough. Daniel looked down at her and smiled. "Good morning," he smiled.
Nat looked up at Daniel but didn't smile back, rather she looked sad. "How do you know it's going to be a good morning?"
Daniel put down the spatula so that he could hug Nat with both his arms. "Because we are going to eat this nice hot breakfast I'm making and then we're going to talk."

"So how's Carter going, Doc?" Jack asked as he and Jacob entered the infirmary.
"Colonel! I was just about to call you! Major Carter just woke up morning. Martouf is in the infirmary with her," Frasier gestured for Jack and Jacob to go into the infirmary.
Jack was glad that he'd decided to bring a bunch of flowers with him. As they walked into the infirmary, they could hear Martouf's voice.
"Sam, You know how deep my feeling for you go. I want you to know that I never want to lose you."
Jack held out his arm in front of Jacob to make him stop walking. Jack put his finger to his own lips to usher Jacob to be quiet. The two men stood outside the curtains that surrounded Sam and Martouf and listened.
"Sam, I would be honored if you'd be my wife," Martouf smiled as he pulled out a silver ring out of his pocket. It was encrusted with diamonds, ruby's and emeralds. Sam's eyes nearly popped out of her head when she saw the ring. Martouf slipped the ring onto Sam's finger as she sat speechless. 'How does one answer to such a request!?' She thought to herself.
"I spoke to your father and he told me that in your culture you present a ring to show you're commitment to your mate. Even thought he told me that the rings are mainly gold in your culture, on my planet the finest rings are silver and encrusted with the rarest jewels on our planet. This ring was my mother's. I hope you like it," Martouf explained. He smiled, but it was a nervous smile, as he didn't know how Sam would answer.
"Martouf, it's beautiful!" Sam smiled, admiring the ring. "You spoke to my father?"
Jacob gulped when he heard the question. Jack glared at him to be quiet. "Yes. I asked him for your 'hand in marriage' as your people say. That is when I asked him about the ring."
'She's stalling,' Jack smiled to himself.
"Martouf, I don't know what to say!" Sam replied. She had never even considered marrying Marty, but when does a cute and generous alien ever propose?
"Say yes," Martouf smiled. He held his breath for Sam's answer.
Sam smiled. "Yes." She leaned over and hugged Martouf. Martouf couldn't do anything but smile. When Sam pulled back from the hug, her face was still close to Marty's. They were almost nose-to-nose. Martouf put his arm around Sam and pulled her close. Sam's heart beat a million times a minute as she felt Martouf's lips on her own. His lips were warm and so comforting. She ran her fingers through his hair as he pulled her closer to him. She could have stayed like that for eternity, but the sound of the curtains being pulled back startled her. She and Martouf pulled back from each other and looked at Jack and Jacob. Jack looked at the two lovebirds and smiled.
"Heard the good news. Congratulations," Jack smiled. Sam could see hurt behind that smile. It made her heart sink. Jacob hugged his daughter and congratulated her. He also hugged Marty and congratulated him for growing the balls to propose. Sam sat looking at Jack. Frasier came into the room and Martouf told her about the good news. Janet congratulated Sam and Martouf.
"Okay, now that the congratulations are out of the way, everyone out!" Janet smiled. "I need to take Sam to have an MRI," Janet explained. Even thought Martouf healed Sam, Janet wanted to run some tests to make sure. Jacob and Martouf left the room but Jack stayed. "Colonel, I need you to leave the room," Janet explained.
"Could you give us a sec, doc?" Jack asked. Janet nodded and left the room. Jack put the bunch of Lilies on the table next to Sam. "I just wanted to say congratulations. He'll make a good husband," Jack said quietly.
Sam felt like her heart was breaking. 'Why do I feel like this!? Why am I feeling guilty when I see Jack?' she thought to herself. Jack's tried to put on a brave face, but he felt like he was dying inside.
"Jack.." Sam whispered. She had no idea what to say next. Jack managed a smile then left the room. Sam watched him leave the room, then looked at the flowers. There was a card in them. She pulled it out and read it.
Sam, get well soon. Miss you. –Love Jack.
