Chapter 1

Disclaimer: I do not own JKR or anything of her world. Shelby Miller is mine. Ask me if you would like to use her. Read and Review! Flames are welcome! If you MST this story, send me a link. I love MSTs.

Author's Note: Closely follows Philosopher's Stone timeline. Shelby knows the trio, but they wind in and out of the story. They are not her close friends. Also, I would love a beta-reader!

It was a peaceful summer day in the city of Oxford. The sun was shining and a light breeze was blowing. Shelby Miller sat at the kitchen table with a bowl of cereal and the latest edition of the Daily Prophet opened in front of her. She was no ordinary eleven year-old and the Daily Prophet was no ordinary newspaper.

Shelby was a witch who happened to be reading the most read newspaper of the wizarding world. She was presently reading an ad for a new broomstick, called the Nimbus 2000. Her older brother, Jason, had just entered the room when an owl flew in through an open window. Held in its beak were two envelopes made of yellowish parchment addressed in emerald green ink. The owl dropped the letters on the table and flew away.

Immediately, Shelby knew where the letters were from. She tossed her brother his envelope and began to rip open her own.

"Mum! Dad!" she yelled. "I've got my letter!" With a quiet pop! her parents were in the kitchen.

"Well read it!" her mum said, almost as excited as her daughter.

Shelby unfolded the letter and began to read aloud,

"Dear Miss Miller,
