Ch15: venom

Dan and Nat arrived at Teal'cs apartment with Jack. Teal'c was in the kitchen getting munchies for everyone and Janet and Sam sat on the couch talking. Teal'c came out from the kitchen and took off his apron that said 'kiss the Jaffa' that Jack had made for Teal'cs Xmas present the year before. Nat plonked a bottle of non-alcoholic wine on the bench. Jack looked at the bottle.

"Isn't the point of wine to have alcohol in it?" Jack asked, picking up the bottle.

Nat smiled. "That bottle is for Teal'c. THIS is for us," Nat smiled as she plonked a large bottle of Tequila on the bench. Sam and Janet overheard the conversation.

"Wow. So we're really getting the party started aren't we?" Sam smiled as she and Janet made their way to the bench.

"So Teal'c, what have you got planned for us tonight," Janet asked.

"I borrowed some interesting movies from the video shop across the road. I'm also attempting to make a cake," Teal'c informed the group.

"Sounds cool! Let's see what movies you chose!" Jack rubbed his hands together as he walked up to the small pile of videos next to the TV. "Okay people we have Gladiator, The mummy, Volcano, Deep Blue Sea, Gone in 60 seconds, and Star wars," Jack looked at Teal'c. "Star Wars AGAIN!? Aren't you sick of that movie yet?" Jack yelled. Teal'c smiled and shook his head.

"Okay, so we have only action movies to chose from? I vouch for Deep Blue Sea. I haven't seen that one yet," Sam requested.

"All these movies are so old I haven't even heard of half of them!" Nat complained. "This is why I hate being stuck in the past. You don't have any good music or movies!" Nat huffed as she grabbed the bottle of tequila and made her way to the couch.

"Hey, don't you want some shot glasses for that?" Dan called from the kitchen.

"No. I'll be fine," Nat said as she plonked down on one of the couches and sat the bottle next to her.

"I am afraid I do not possess any shot glasses Daniel Jackson," Teal'c explained. Daniel went up to his apartment and got everyone some shot glasses. Then they all sat themselves down and watched Deep Blue Sea, while drinking Tequila sunrises and Teal'c had his non-alcoholic wine.

Daniel and Sam shared one couch. Nat lay on the floor in front of the TV, while Janet and Teal'c shared the second couch. Jack sat on the floor, leaning back on the armrest of the couch Janet and Teal'c sat on. Nat kept talking through the movie and commenting on how lame the special effects were in the movie.

"Have some more Tequila," Jack huffed as he refilled Nat's drink.

11:40pm. Nat woke up on the couch. She looked around the room and saw Daniel sitting on the other end of the couch, with her feet on his lap.

"Dan? Did I fall asleep? Was I having nightmares?" Nat asked, sitting up.

"Yeah you fell asleep, but it didn't look like you were having any nightmares. I think you just had a little too much tequila. You fell asleep on the floor," Dan smiled.

"I guess Jack would've been happy that I stopped complaining through the movie," Nat laughed. "What time is it?" Nat asked as she looked around the room. Janet and Sam were talking to Teal'c in the kitchen and Jack was watching TV on the couch.

"Twenty three forty. And yes! It was a joy to have some peace and quiet through the movie," Jack replied. "Twenty minutes until the new year!" Jack smiled at Nat, then went back to watching TV.

[January 2nd, 2003: SGC]

"Good morning General!"

"Colonel. How was your New Years?"

"Not bad actually. Teal'c had us over for videos and drinks. Not bad for his first time entertaining us. How was yours Sir?"

"I spent it with at my grandchildren's house. We had a bbq and then watched the New Years celebration on TV. So are you ready for your next mission colonel?"

"Of course, Sir. Where are we headed?"

"One of the gate addresses that future Daniel Jackson gave us."

"Okay kids, please make sure your tray tables are in the upright position and thank you for flying stargate airways," Jack stated as Sg-1 walked through the gate.

"What planet's this?" Nat asked.

"I believe I said it was p3X-485."

"I know that, but.." Nat drifted off. She looked straight ahead and saw a single massive white building. There were columns in the front and a path that led from the stargate to the building.

"This place seems to be deserted. But the buildings still look new," Daniel commented as he adjusted his glasses.

"Malp telemetry didn't show any life signs," Carter replied.

"You know, this place looks oddly familiar..." Nat mumbled.

"Well, let's take a look around," Jack smiled as he headed down the path towards the large building.

Daniel was first to reach the building, and stopped to look at one of the columns. Something was stuck to it. "Hey guys, I think I found a warning!"

"What's it say?" Carter asked.

"I'm guessing it says 'warning," Jack replied. Sam gave Jack a look.

"Well the language seems to be written in Goul'd," Daniel explained. "Possibly an old dialect."

"These structures do not appear to be of Goul'd origin," Teal'c commented.

"Oh!! This is bad!!! I know where we are now!" Nat said loudly. "We've gotta go back home!"

Everyone turned and looked at Nat. "Why? What do you know about this place?" Sam asked.

"This is one of the addresses old Daniel gave us isn't it?" Nat asked.

"Yeah.. Why?" Jack replied.

"Can you guys stop calling him.. er.. me 'old' Daniel!? Call him 'future' Daniel," Daniel squealed.

"Daniel sent us to the bug planet!" Nat said loudly. Her eyes showed fear.

"I did?" Daniel asked.

"I don't like the sound of that," Sam commented.

"O'Neill!" Teal'c called out. He was looking at something in the distance. "We must leave now."

Everyone turned around and looked in the direction Teal'c was looking at. A massive black cloud headed in their direction. The sound of humming was getting louder.

"Oh I hope that's just a cloud.." Jack mumbled.

"It's the bugs!! Let's go!" Nat screamed. Everyone headed for the gate. "If they bite you, it's lethal!"

Sam and Jack made it to the gate first. Jack started dialing and Sam punched in the SG-1 transmission code.

Dan and Nat ran towards the gate, with Teal'c at the rear, firing at the flying swarm of bugs that headed towards them. The gate opened and Jack and Sam ran though. Daniel reached the gate next and ran through. Nat tripped just before she reached the steps and twisted her ankle. Teal'c turned and fired on the swarm that was catching up to them at an amazing velocity. He put his arm around Nat's waist and picked her up like she was nothing. The humming got so loud that Teal'c didn't hear Nat scream when she felt a sting on her foot just before he carried her through the gate.

"Close the iris!"

"Medical team to the gate room!"

Teal'c sat Nat down on the ramp and she groaned in pain. Dr Frasier ran into the gate room and straight to Natalie. "What happened?!" She asked.

"My ankle! One of the bugs stung me!" Nat complained.

"I thought you said that a bite from one of these things is fatal?" Jack asked.

"Well it feels fatal!" Nat groaned. Dr. Frasier ran into the gate room and crouched next to Nat.

"What happened!?" She asked as she tended to Nat's blood stained ankle. Dr Frasier rolled up the blood soaked cuffs of her pants and examined the wound.

"You've got a deep laceration on your ankle," Frasier explained.

"One of those bugs got me! I don't know if it stung me or bit me! The bites are fatal" Nat replied.

"This doesn't look like a bite mark. I'm guessing it's a sting or a cut." Dr. Frasier explained then called for a stretcher.

"You know what, I'm feeling kinda better. I'll walk to the infirmary," Nat explained as she stood up, still putting most of her weight on her good ankle.

"How is this possible!?" Sam exclaimed. "With a gash like that, I'm surprised your standing!"

Nat put her arm around Dr. Frasier's shoulder and Dr. Frasier led Nat to the infirmary. The rest of Sg-1 were left in the gate room with Hammond. "What on earth happened!" he asked.

"Well sir, I think we're gonna need a big can of raid next time we go there!" Jack joked. "Can I explain on the way to the infirmary?" Hammond nodded and they all followed Nat and Doctor Frasier into the infirmary.

Nat lay on the bed as Dr. Frasier cleaned up the blood on her ankle. "Hmm, the wound doesn't seem to be as deep as I thought," Frasier explained. "I could have sworn it was a deep laceration, but now it looks like a minor cut."

"I thought you said that a bite from these bugs is fatal," Jack asked.

"I did. I'm pretty sure that that was the bug planet. That's what we've nick named it in my time. Everyone is told that the legendary Sg-1 went to that planet and discovered that the bugs on this planet have a sting that actually produces a venom which actually heals wounds," Nat explained.

"That doesn't make sense. Why would their sting heal instead of harm. The purpose of the sting in insects here on earth is to cause harm to the attacker," Carter explained.

"There appeared to be no life signs on p3X-485. Perhaps the sting was only fatal to the people of that planet," Teal'c commented.

"Well future Daniel explained to me that, what the world was never told is that sg-1 went to that planet with a new lieutenant and the lieutenant was stung, causing the discovery of this healing venom," Nat explained. She looked at Dan who was standing at the side of her bed. "You bastard!" Nat slapped him on the arm. "You sent me there to get stung!"

Daniel rubbed his arm. "I didn't give the coordinates! It was the future me!" Daniel replied.

"Well remember that slap when you're old and writing that note with the coordinates on it. Why couldn't you have just written that the planet has life saving bugs on it!?" Nat replied.

"Maybe because if he did, it would change the way your future finds out about the venom," Sam replied. Jack looked at Carter.

"I thought that it didn't matter what Nat did, that it would change the future anyway?" Jack asked.

"Well now I think that this space of 30 years is in a sort of time loop. I think that Nat's presence here will ultimately result in the future that Nat originated from. I don't think that everything Nat does here in this time, will change the future," Sam explained. Everyone gave her blank looks. Sam huffed. "For example, Nat didn't want us to extract Kayleen because the information she obtains from Kian will one day save Earth. Because we didn't extract Kian, future Nat will then gain that knowledge from Kian. When Nat came to our time, she passed on that knowledge to the Tok'ra council. It's all happening in a loop," Sam explained.

"I get it," Nat smiled.

"You understood that!?" Jack squealed. He then turned back to Sam. "In English, Carter."

"Everything I do in this time wont change the future," Nat explained, interrupting Sam.

"I'm still confused. But you know what, I'm going to go have lunch. Anyone want to join me?" Jack asked. Teal'c nodded in agreement.

"I can't believe it," Janet mumbled, which caught the attention of everyone in the room. "The wound is nothing more than a scratch now!"

"It is! Cool! Okay colonel, I'll join you for lunch now!" Nat smiled, getting off the bed. Janet blocked Nat's path.

"Sorry, not today. I still want to run a few analyses to see that there aren't any long term side effects to the venom," Janet explained. Nat got back onto the bed with a sad look on her face. Janet then turned back to Hammond and the rest of the group. "Sir, I would really like to have a look at a pure sample of that venom. If that venom is proved effecting on all sorts of wounds, it could be administered all around the world!" Janet explained excitedly.

"It's called Cassandrate," Nat butted in.

Janet turned around. "I had just thought of that name just now!" she replied in shock.

"Major, have a malp sent through back to p3X-485 and see if you can catch one of those bugs," Hammond ordered.

"Yes sir," Sam replied then exited the room.
