Ch16: Jack's stand
[February 21st, 2003]
[Dear diary, I have decided to start a diary of my life in the past. I have been sent back in time to November 30th, 2002. In my time, 2031, I am 25 and work at the SGC in SG-1. The original sg-1 are legendary in my time. Daniel Jackson was my tutor while I was in high school and then he became my friend. On, July 5th, 2031, the Goa'uld led an airborne attack on Earth. It was an attack like no one had ever seen before. Our laser cannons were no match for their new shielding technology. Daniel said he'd never seen so many mother ships in a single invasion before. Coming from Daniel, it means we were in big trouble. All our Sg teams attempted to get aboard some of the mother ships, but many failed. When my team and I were supposed to try infiltrate the main mother ship, we were discovered and barely made it off the ship alive. One of my fellow teammates (and friend) was killed when we made our escape from the ship. Everyone from civilians to senators were ordered to evacuate to the alpha site. On July 7th, the defense forces were ordered to stay behind until it was too dangerous to keep fighting. Daniel and Teal'c waited for me at the SGC until I could reach the base to head off to the alpha base. Teal'c died a warrior's death. He probably died with a smile on his face because I saw him take at least 5 staff blasts before he fell. He had done so much for us, our planet, and I was devastated when I saw him die. After much arguing, Dan told me to wait in the gate room while he dialed the gate. Dan was being wrestled to the ground by Jaffa when I ran though the gate. Next thing I know, I've came out in the year 2002 instead of the alpha site. The bag Daniel gave me to hold while he dialed the alpha site contained 2 of his journals. One was of earlier events in the year 2002. The second journal contained the events of when I first meet Daniel in the future. I haven't finished reading it, but it's interesting to see how Daniel and the rest of Sg-1 reacted when they saw me when I was younger. Now I understand why they were always so happy when they saw me.]
Nat put her pen and new journal down on the coffee table and stretched her arms up in the air. She got up off the couch and walked to the window. She watched the people walking on the street and thought of her home in the future. In a way she was glad that elderly Dan sent her back in time so she could live away from the invading Goa'uld. The threat was still real in 2003, but the Goa'uld weren't on Earth's doorstep like they were in Nat's time. It was Saturday morning and people were out walking their dogs. The dogs wore their own jackets to keep warm from the snow. She looked at her watch. 10:17AM. She had to be at the SGC in 2 hours for another one of Dr. Frasier's weekly tests to see if there are any long term side effects to the bug sting.

"Sam, are you nearly ready? We've got to leave soon so we can be on time at the SGC," Janet explained as she entered Sam's bedroom. Sam was adding the finishing touches to her make up.
"Daniel just rang. He said that they are on their way to the SGC now. We're going to be late for the engagement party if we don't leave now!" Nat called from Sam's living room.
"Okay, I'm ready!" Sam smiled as she grabbed her bag and jacket off her bed and followed Janet and Nat out the door.
In about 45 minutes, the girls made their way to the SGC all dressed up and ready for the engagement party at the Tok'ra home world. In the gate room, Daniel, Teal'c and Jack were waiting for them in suits. General Hammond waited next to them in his usual army attire.
"Have fun major," Hammond smiled.
"You're not coming?" Sam asked.
"Unfortunately, no. My duties need me here. But have fun."
"Well let's go Carter, you don't wanna be late for your own engagement party!" O'Neill commented as he ushered Sam up the ramp.
Nat looked at Teal'c. "Teal'c you're in a suit!" Nat squealed. "It looks good!" Teal'c smiled and nodded his head.
"I've got a new suit.." Dan muttered like a neglected child. Teal'c and Janet made their way to the stargate. Nat took a look at Daniel's suit. He wore a purple shirt with a diagonal striped tie. He wore black pants and jacket.
"Looking good Daniel!" Nat smiled.
"You look good too. More than good." Daniel smiled.
"Thanks! Sam helped me pick out this dress. It's weird to be wearing pink. I'm used to the army greens!" Nat commented.
"Lieutenant, Doctor, sg-13 are due back now and you're holding the gate up," Hammond said over the P.a. Dan held out his arm and Nat linked her arm in his.
"Let's go. And did I say you look good?" Dan said casually as they walked up the ramp.

Martouf stood up and raised his glass. "I would like to thank you all for coming to this joyous event," Martouf announced to everyone at the long table. He then turned to Sam. "Samantha, I love you and I cant wait to spend the rest of my life with you," Martouf smiled. He leaned towards Sam and kissed her. Then everyone began their meal.
Daniel took a quick glance at Jack to see his reaction but there wasn't any. Jack seemed totally normal. Dan looked across the table at Nat, to see that she was looking right back at him. Nat smiled at Dan then went back to her meal. Everyone seemed to be happy. Funny stories were exchanged and memorable events were relived. Sam and Martouf held hands as Jacob congratulated them again on the engagement. Sg-1 sat in between Tok'ra friends of Martouf and Jacob. They all drank and talked until it was late. It was previously organised that Sg-1 would spend the night at the Tok'ra home world. Jacob showed everyone to their rooms. Jack and Teal'c shared a room, Daniel got his own room, Nat and Janet shared a room and Sam was to stay in Marty's room.
"Wow, these rooms are really... different," Janet commented as she looked around the room.
"Yeah, I'm used to my room being in the shape of a cube," Nat replied. She pulled her pj's out of her bag, which was brought to her room earlier. "It's so weird to be sleeping here.." Nat drifted off, and then turned to Janet with a little smile on her face. "I wonder how the boys are handling sleeping here.." Nat said softly. Janet dropped her pjs on the bed and put her hands on her hips.
"I knew it! Okay, go," Janet smiled and pointed to the door.
"I don't know what you're talking about!" Nat tried to conceal the smile.
"If anyone knew that I allowed you to stay in Daniel's room, I could get into a lot of trouble. BUT, since we are on an alien planet, and we're technically not on duty, I'm going to turn a blind eye. Now go," Janet smiled. Nat nodded, grabbed her duffle bag and headed out the door.
"Thanks Janet! I owe ya one!"
* * * *
Jack stood outside his room. He could see the ring transporters at the end of the corridor. Teal'c noticed that Jack was standing outside their room.
"Are you waiting for Major Carter and Martouf to come back from the surface?" Teal'c asked.
"I just want to have a chat with her before I go to bed."
"Has this anything to do with your affection for her?" Teal'c asked. Jack stayed quiet but Teal'c already knew the answer. "They have been on the surface for some time now. How do you know that they will be back soon?"
Jack continued to look at the ring transporters. "I don't. I just need to tell her a few things before she marries him, that's all." Saying that, the rings shot down and Sam and Martouf returned from their night walk. They headed down the hall towards Martouf's room, which happened to be past Jack and Teal'cs room.
"Colonel? What are you doing up?" Carter asked.
"Are the quarters of poor standard, O'Neill?" Martouf asked.
"No no no. I just wondered if I could have a chat with Carter for a minute," Jack explained. Carter gave him a weird look. Jack then turned to Martouf. "Just some last minute congratulatories."
Martouf nodded and left Carter with O'Neill. "What's up?" Sam asked innocently.
"Can we talk upstairs?" Jack asked. The two of them made their way back to the ring transporters and to the surface.
* * * *
"Knock knock!" Nat said cautiously as she entered Daniel's room. She found Daniel on the bed, lying on his back, still in his suit.
"Don't you knock?" Dan said sarcastically. He sat up and patted the bed for Nat to sit next to him.
"Well I would have.. but no doors remember. Only windey entrances," Nat explained as she plonked her bag on the floor next to the bed.
"What's with the bag?"
"I thought maybe I could crash here tonight," Nat smiled.
Dan couldn't hold back the smile. "What's wrong with your room with Janet?" He asked.
"Nothing. If you want me to go back.." Nat picked up her bag, already knowing what Dan was going to say.
Dan sprang off the bed and took the bag from Nat. "No no! Stay!" Dan smiled and dropped the bag next to the bed again. Nat wrapped her arms around Dan's waist. Daniel leaned forward and kissed Nat before leading her to the bed.
* * * *
On the surface it was warm, three moons were positioned in the night sky. The light breeze added to the romantic feel. "Okay sir, what's up?" Sam asked.
"Wow. No wonder you and Marty spent so long out here. Good views!" Jack commented.
"Sir!"
"I just want to ask you if you're making the right decision by marrying Marty," Jack said calmly.
"What do you mean? I love him," she replied, slightly cranky that Jack was keeping her from going to sleep.
"I mean, do you really think it will work out between you two? Where are you going to live? Are you having a wedding in a church or on an alien planet?" Jack asked.
"What? We haven't quite decided where to live yet but-"
"Do you really think Marty's gonna want to live on Earth with us 'primitives'?" Jack commented. He was surprised at the hint of coldness in his tone.
"Are you telling me not to marry him, Sir?" Sam asked. He was getting on her nerves.
"Okay, you got me. I don't want you to marry Marty."
"With all due respect, sir. Okay I admit that a marriage like this has never happened before but that doesn't mean you should just not approve of my marrying Marty!" Sam argued.
"Stop calling me 'sir'. We're off duty. Call me Jack for crying out loud!"
Sam seemed to ignore Jack's previous comment. "Well I know you sometimes show mistrust in the Tok'ra, but you still haven't told me any valid reasons for why I shouldn't marry Martouf!" she argued again.
"You want reasons, okay. He has a snake in his head! Which one are you marrying Carter! The snake or Marty! Do you really think that the snake is going to stay quiet just for you? And I WAS going to get you guys a blender for your engagement present, but the Tok'ra don't have electricity!"
* * * *
Nat ran kisses down his shoulder as she slowly removed his shirt. Daniel felt like the room was heating up as her hands ran up and down his ribbed stomach and up to his shoulders. He lay back down and pulled Nat down on top of him. They kissed as if they had never seen each other in millenia. Nat sat on top of Dan, one hand cupping his face, the other on the bed next to Daniel's head, supporting herself. Daniel's hand ran slowly up the side of Nat's bare thigh. He heard her moan quietly as his other hand ran down her side.
* * * *
"You know what, Jack. I think you're full of shit!" Sam yelled, a little taken back that she'd just yelled at her CO.
"You called me Jack! Good! We're making progress!"
"What's the real reason why you don't want me to marry Marty?" She continued.
"You mean you didn't like my other reasons?" Jack asked. He was glad that Sam was getting close to the truth. He knew Sam wasn't dumb.
"No. I want to know the real reason!"
"I don't think you really want to know," Jack pointed out. "What I think is that you're looking for an excuse to dump Marty!" Jack commented. It drove her nuts how calm he was acting now.
"I'm looking for an excuse? You're the one who brought me out here!" She yelled back in frustration. "Just tell me Jack!"
"ARGH! You want to marry him, fine. Tomorrow we'll go back like this conversation never happened," Jack said and turned around to head back to the transport rings.
"I'm not finished Jack!"
"Well I am!"
"Don't start something you can't finish colonel!" Sam yelled back. Jack stopped in his tracks and turned back around.
* * * *
Nat lay with her head on Daniel's chest. Her naked body pressed up against Daniel's. She listened to the rhythmic sounds of his heartbeat. "Nat."
"Hmm."
"Feel free to crash at my place whenever you want okay?" Daniel commented. Nat raised her head from Dan's chest and looked up at him.
"Agreed," She smiled. She kissed Daniel then lay her head back down on his chest.
* * * *
"There's another reason why you don't want me to marry Martouf," Sam commented.
"And why's that?" Jack asked. He was getting on her nerves.
"You tell me."
"If it will convince you then I will. But I don't think you want to be convinced," Jack replied, ready to walk off again.
"Would you please tell me so I can get to sleep! I want to know," Sam replied. She was getting agitated.
"I don't think you do," Jack replied, now walking towards Sam. He wanted her to push it, so that he could tell her.
"Try me." Bingo.
"This is why," Jack whispered then leaned in and kissed Sam. He waited for her to pull back from it, but she didn't. After a moment, Jack pulled back and looked at Sam's reaction. He couldn't tell if she looked shocked or confused.
"That's why," He whispered then turned and headed for the transport rings, leaving Sam alone on the surface.
Back in the Tok'ra tunnels, Jacob was called to the surveillance room. "What is it? Why have you called me here so late?" Jacob asked. The Tok'ra guard informed Jacob that O'Neill and Carter were arguing on the surface. Jacob sat and watched the view screen. He was sad to see Jack and Sam fighting. He was even more shocked to see Jack move in and kiss Sam.
