Ch20: the Goa'uld attack

[July 25th, 2031: SGC briefing room]

"As you all know, we've known about the Goa'ulds arrival for a few days now. No doubt you all know that all our ships are being used to transport politicians, scientists and the general public to the alpha site. All your families have been transported already, and those who haven't yet will be transported tomorrow," The general explained. Someone put their hand up. "Yes, Colonel Tan."

Nat looked at the man sitting next to her, the leader of Sg-1. "General, isn't it unwise to use all our ships to transport the people? We need some to fight the Goa'uld, especially since the Tok'ra are unwilling to lend us any since severing ties with us," the colonel explained. Just then, an elderly woman stepped up.

"Apparently the governments of the world don't think we can win a head on attack from the Goa'uld. Not like we did 20years ago. No doubt all of you have read about the battle in the Arctic."

"Dr. Carter-O'Neill. Glad you could join us," the general greeted. He then turned back to the Sg-teams. "Dr Carter-O'Neill will debrief all of you on your missions," He explained, and then moved out of the way so Sam could step in.

"As you know, there are numerous motherships positioned around the world. Many are heading right here, to take the stargate. As we have no teams off- world, we've been keeping the gate connected to the alpha site to prevent the Goa'uld from trying to keep us trapped on this planet by dialing in. There are 2 mothersips heading for the SGC as we speak. Sg-teams 1-10 will be assigned missions to take out these two motherships," Sam explained as she handed out manilla folders with mission details to the team leaders. "We don't have much time, so read the mission details then go gear up. Sg- teams 11 to 19, you're to take the x-302's and head out to area-51. You'll receive your missions when you get there," Sam explained.

"Gear up!" The general commanded. Instantly, the soldiers started running out of the room. Nat walked up to Sam.

"You're going to the alpha site aren't you?" Nat asked.

"I'll be staying here with Daniel, Teal'c and Jack until the last minute. Our expertise might come in handy. Good luck Natalie," Sam smiled. She hugged Nat.

"Lieutenant! Let's go!" Colonel Tan called from the door. Nat let go of Sam and ran out the room.

----------------------------------------------

"So colonel, what's the report say?" asked the red-haired man, looking over Nat's shoulder to try read the mission report colonel Tan was holding.

"Can you stop breathing down my neck Fischer!" Nat complained. The red haired man backed off and walked around so he was standing next to her.

"Sorry, just a little enthused about kicking some ass," Fischer joked. "Where's major Cass?"

"Getting the p-91s, zats and my ribbon device," Nat replied.

"Man, you love that thing! You know, it does give you an unfair advantage over the rest of us," Fischer complained.

"I can't help it if I like the idea of having my own personal shield. Plus, I'm the only one who's ever had a symbiote."

Fischer huffed. "You know, you're probably the safest person on this team."

"Or the most dangerous," Colonel Tan commented. He closed the file and put it under his arm. "If I ever had a snake in my head, I'd probably want to use a ribbon device too. Where's Cass?"

Just then major Cass ran into the room with a huge sack with the p-91s, grenades, c4 and zats. "Sorry I took so long, I practically had to beat sg- 14 for these weapons!" Cass exclaimed. He then handed Nat her ribbon device. "Here lieutenant." Nat said thanks as she put it in the front pocket of her backpack.

Fischer nudged his shoulder into Cass' arm. "Now why's she getting the special treatment?" Fischer joked.

"There's always time to be a gentleman Fischer," Cass explained.

"Hello! Impending doom on our doorstep!" Colonel Tan yelled. The other three team members stopped and listened. "Thank-you. Now, what you guys weren't told before is that our mission is a little different to the other sg-teams'. Yesterday we got news that one of the death gliders got shot down yesterday. It wasn't damaged much. The jaffa were taken prisoner and mechanics have been working around the clock to fix the glider. Our mission is to take the death gider, along with a second one we stole a few months ago, to the head-honcho mother ship and once we're in, we take out the ship by any means necessary. The main objective is to destroy these snake heads, and if we cant, to hold them back for as long as possible, and get through the gate at the last minute."

The other three teammates stood silent, flabbergasted.

"You wanna run that by us again colonel?" Fischer mumbled.

"You heard me. Gear up. We leave in 10minutes."

-------------------------------------------

--knock knock--

"Nat, can I see you for a sec?" Nat excused herself from her group who were still discussing plans on taking down the mother ship as they geared up.

"Hey Sam. What's up?"

"Just wanted to wish you luck. Also, I want you to take this," Sam instructed, handing Nat a Goa'uld communicator. "Daniel has the second one. It's modified to a frequency that only the second device can receive. Daniel said to let him know when your coming back to the SGC. Also, I got a Naquadria bomb ready for you in lab 315," Sam explained. She looked at the young soldier in front of her. "You're parents must be so proud of you."

Nat smiled. "I'm glad that Mum and Dad are on their way to the alpha site now."

"Just make sure you get back here to see them again okay?" Sam explained, knowing full well what was going to happen to Nat in a couple days.

[July 2nd, 2004: 4AM]

Sam woke up to the humming sound of her invention. She hadn't realised that she'd fallen asleep while working on the device. She turned it off and put her head back on the table, falling asleep again.

[7am]

Sam woke up again, feeling her stomach grumble. She opened the donut box that Teal'c left next to her laptop. Empty. She'd decided to stay in her lab and work on the device, but her stomach gave in and she got up to head for the mess hall.

[mess hall]

"I'm telling ya T! Coco pops the most popular breakfast cereal world-wide," Jack debated.

"I disagree O'Neill. I believe that fruit loops seem to be the most popular within this facility," Teal'c debated calmly.

"That's just because they're too chicken to grab coco pops for fear of being called a kid," Jack explained, waving his spoon around.

Just then Jack and Tea'lc saw Sam enter the mess hall. "Teal'c.. is that Carter?"

"I believe so."

"What the hell did you put in those donuts?"

"Motivation," Teal'c said with his usual tone, letting out a little smile.

"Was that a joke? Teal'c! waita go!" Jack laughed.

"I heard that," a female voice said from behind Jack. He turned around and saw Sam holding a tray of cereal a banana and blue jello.

"Welcome back Carter. Park your carcass down and join our little debate," Jack instructed, tapping the seat next to him. "What do you think is the most popular cereal? Coco pops or fruit loops?"

Sam looked at the two men with a weird look. "THIS is what you two are debating about? Personally I think cornflakes are more popular," Sam replied, digging into her cornflakes.

"Wha! No! I thought you were going to be on my side here!" Jack complained. "Where's Daniel when you need him. He'll be on my side!"

"I believe Daniel prefers toast, O'Neill," Teal'c explained. Jack let out a grumble.

"Whata bout Natalie then?" He eyed Teal'c.

"Natalie has had coco pops on a few occasions.." Teal'c explained.

"YES!" Jack whispered, cutting Teal'c off.

"Because we had run out of fruit loops," Teal'c continued.

"What! Do you go and study what we all eat or something?" Jack groaned, wrapping his arm around his bowl so Teal'c couldn't see the cereal.
