Ch21: invasion

[July 25th, 2031]

"So if a replicator and a Jaffa got into a fight, who do you think would win?" Fischer asked over the communicator. Nat sat in one death glider with her CO, colonel Tan, while Dr Fischer and Major Cass rode in the second death glider.

"The replicator, within seconds," Nat replied.

"What type of weapons has the Jaffa got?" Cass asked.

"Any weapon."

"Then I'd say the replicator would win. Just hand him a p-91 and he'd win," Cass exlained.

"What?! No way! I still think a replicator would win! Most Jaffa don't know how to use a p-91, so the replicator would still win!" Nat exclaimed.

"I agree with Manslow. Many Jaffa have been killed off by replicators," Colonel Tan but in. A beeping sound filled the cockpit of the death gliders. "We're here."

"So, general, have you heard about Carter's new invention?"

"Yes. Major Carter submitted a formal report this morning," General Hammond replied.

"Have we contacted Thor yet?" O'Neill asked.

"We sent a message right after I read the report. No reply as yet," Hammond explained. "The president wants Major Carter to adjust the frequency ASAP."

"But that would require us to get a hold of Thor."

"So Fischer, can you explain this Ammit character again?" Cass asked.

"Cass, I've explained it to you 100 times already!"

"Well, tell me again!"

"This isn't really the time for history 101 Cass!" Nat complained.

"We're still in the death gliders, so its not like they can hear us from outside," Cass replied.

Fischer huffed under his breath. "Okay. In ancient Egyptian mythology, when a person dies, Anubis leads them to Osiris. Then his heart is weighed by Osiris. If his heart is light, he's lived a good life and can pass on. If his heart is heavy, it was eaten by Ammit, devouress of the dead. She was said to have the head of a crocodile, torso of a cat and behind of a hippo."

"Either that or she had a fat ass!" Tan but in.

"So Cass, do I need to explain to you how she ended up being Anubis' only daughter before he ascended? Or do you actually remember that bit?" Fischer asked sarcastically.

"Nah, I get that part. I just couldn't remember the ancient stuff," Cass explained.

"Well don't forget that Ammit's not like other Goa'uld system lords.. she literally ate Baal's heart while it was still beating," Nat explained. "I'd hate for that to happen to any of us," She commented as they exited the deathgliders.

The four quickly and quietly made their way down the corridors of the mother ship. After narrowly missing getting caught by nearby jaffa, the team reached a fork in the corridors.

"Cass, you're with me. Manslow, you head off with fisher. We'll have twice the chance at blowing the ship if we set our own bombs. Set timers for one hour. Should give us enough time to get out. Meet in the engine room," Tan ordered. Nat nodded and headed down the left path with Fisher in the lead.

"Carter, how's the device going?" O'Neill asked as he entered her lab.

"Finished. All we need is a replicator here so I can adjust the frequency," Sam replied.

"You said Thor had a simulated replicator on his ship right?"

"Yeah, but even if we wanted to test it, we still need Thor here," Sam explained.

"Good point.."

"Hey, this door says 'birth chamber' on it," Nat explained as she grabbed Fischer's arm, stopping him from waling off.

"Birth chamber?" He repeated. Nat opened the door.

"Oh my god.." The room was filled with tanks and tanks of Goa'uld symbiotes. The tank nearest to the door contained one extremely large goa'uld.

"That better not be what I think it is.." Fischer mumbled.

"It's a queen. There's thousands, if not millions, of symbiotes in here!" Nat exclaimed.

Fischer and Nat walked closer to the tank containing the queen. "I know this MAY be a dumb question, but why would Ammit bring thousands of symbiotes to an invasion?"

"I'm too afraid to answer," Nat replied. "But let's make sure it doesn't happen," She said as she pulled some C4 out of her bag. Fischer walked upto a few tanks containing symbiotes. "Don't get too close," Nat warned as she stuck the C4 under the tank with the queen. She set the timer for an hour and they left for the engine room.

[mess hall]

"Daniel Jackson, any word from Natalie Manslow?" An elderly Teal'c asked.

"No. Not yet. I hope she's going alright up there," Daniel replied, then took a sip of his coffee.

Teal'c sat down across the table from Daniel. "Natalie Manslow is a formidable warrior. She will make her way back here," Teal'c explained.

"Yeah. I know she will. Still doesn't hurt to worry," Daniel removed his thick glasses and rubbed his eyes. "I miss her Teal'c. I miss being back in sg-1."

"I miss those days too Daniel Jackson. Like you, I also miss the days when Natalie Manslow was in sg-1 with us."

Jack walked into the mess hall. His cane made a rhythmic tap on the floors as he walked up to Daniel and Teal'c.

"We just got a transmission from Colonel Tan. They're mission went bust. They're on their way back now.. barely," Jack explained.

"Is Nat with them?" Daniel asked, concerned.

"I don't know."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Natalie and colonel Tan set the last of the c4 in the engine room. "Okay. All bombs are set to go in ten. Let's get back to the death gliders!" Tan commanded. As Nat and Tan stood up and grabbed their backpacks off the ground, the sound of a zat gun opening could be heard.

"Fischer?" Nat mumbled. "What are you doing?!" Fischer had Major Cass in a headlock, with the Zat pointing to his head. Nat couldn't help but take a few steps back when Fischer's eyes glowed.

"I'm afraid I can't let you leave." Fischer smiled as two armed Jaffa entered the room behind him.

Tan grabbed his p-91 and Nat followed suit. "You know we're not going to go down without a fight!" Tan ordered.

Fischer smiled. "So be it!" He yelled before shooting Cass, and then aimed his gun at the remaining sg-1.

[July 2nd, 2003]

"Hey Teal'c," Daniel greeted as he entered the gym. Teal'c nodded his head in greeting.

--unscheduled incoming wormhole!--

Daniel and Teal'c ran out of the gym and headed for the gate room. Sam and Jack were already there. Jack turned to Daniel and Teal'c. "They can't get the iris to close. We're hoping it's Thor coming through," Jack explained.

Sure enough, Thor stepped through into the gate room.

"Thor! Buddy!" Jack smiled as Thor walked down the ramp.

"O'Neill. It is good to see you again. Unfortunately I've yet again come with some bad news," Thor explained.

"What's up?"

"During our war with the replicators, a sort of beacon was detected coming from this area of the galaxy. I came here by stargate because my ship would not have been fast enough," Thor explained.

"Fast enough?" Daniel asked.

"The replicators have pinpointed the origin of the beacon. They will be here in two days."
