Ch23: The big plan

Hammond, Teal'c and Daniel joined Sam, Thor, Jack and Nat in Sam's lab.

Everyone stood around Sam's workbench. "Major, you said that you've come up with a plan?" Hammond asked.

"Yes Sir. At first, Thor thought that we should let the device attract the replicators to Earth, then we blow them up when they get here," Sam explained.

"But we can barely handle one ship of replicators, let alone many ships," Jack explained. Sam nodded.

"Well, do you remember Pwx-912?" She asked.

"The planet with Naquada deposits," Daniel explained. "The deposits were all over the planet, but the deposits were so small, there was no point in mining it."

"There were no deposits large enough to mine, BUT the planet is covered with Naquada," Sam explained, confirming Daniel's response.

Hammond sat down on one of the stools surrounding Sam's workbench. He rubbed his bald head. "Major, what's Pwx-912 got to do with anything?" he asked impatiently.

"Sorry, I'll get to the point. Thor and I both think that if we take the device to Pwx-912," Sam put her hand on her new invention. "Then the replicators will turn around and head for that planet. We wait until the replicators are nearby, then set the timer on a naquada-enhanced bomb," She explained.

"Because the planet is covered with deposits of Naquada, an intense bomb will cause the entire planet to explode," Thor finished explaining.

"No replicator could survive a blast such as this," Teal'c said. Everyone in the room smiled, except Thor, who gave a slight nod.

"Well, it sounds like a plan!" Jack smiled. He turned to General Hammond. "General, what do you think?"

General Hammond got off the stool and stood up with his shoulders back, looking very distinguished. "Sounds like a good plan."

--------------------------------------------

Nat walked into Dan's study. He had his head down, writing something. "Daniel?" Nat walked around Daniel's desk so that she was standing behind him. He hadn't even realised that she had come in the room. She stood on her toes and peered over his shoulder to see what he was writing.

...hopefully killing off all the replicators that follow the beacon. The only thing that's bugging me is that yesterday Sam would barely talk to anyone. Unless Jack did or said something to get her back to 'normal', I have no idea why suddenly Sam is so willing to talk to anyone, let alone come up with an ingenious plan...

"Yeah, I was thinking that too," Nat said aloud as she read what Daniel had just written. Out of pure shock, Daniel jolted in his seat, causing his shoulder to connect with Nat's chin. His pen was sent flying across the room. "Ow! Daniel!"

"Nat! I'm so sorry! When did you get here?" Daniel shrieked. He saw that Nat was rubbing her chin. He put his arms around Nat and hugged her. "How's your chin?"

Nat gave her chin another rub and then put her arms around Daniel's waist. "Er.. It's okay," She let out a little giggle. "You should have seen your face! I can't believe you didn't even notice me coming into the room!"

Daniel released his hug on Nat. "I figured you were deep in thought. I even called your name, but you didn't hear me so I decided to see what was so interesting," She explained.

"So you decided to read what I was writing in my journal?" He asked. He looked at the page he was writing on. As his pen flew across the room, it drew a long line across his page. "Great. Now it looks like a 5 year-old attacked my journal," Daniel joked as he assessed the damage to his journal entry. Nat laughed aswell.

"Well, I didn't KNOW you were writing in your journal. It looked like you were translating something, so I took a gander over your shoulder. But I gotta say, I agree with what you wrote about Sam. I noticed that also," Nat commented. She tried to take Dan's journal so she can see what else he wrote, but Daniel stepped in her way.

"Hey! There's some very personal stuff in that!" Daniel crossed his arms and looked through the top of his glasses. "Just because you've got 2 of my journals, doesn't mean you can read this one," Daniel explained, closing the book.

Nat huffed. "Fine," She sighed. "If I'm not wanted.." Nat began walking towards the door with a smile on her face. "Then I'll go find someone who wants me around.."

Daniel smiled, "AH, come on! You know I want you here!" Daniel tried not to laugh at the cute pout coming from Nat.

"No.. you don't want me.. maybe I'll just go find myself a new boyfriend.." Nat joked, still standing in the doorway. "Maybe one who's cuter.."

"Hey!" Dan squealed. "You don't think I'm cute?" He joked, running his hand through his short-cropped hair. Nat laughed.

She pretended to think for a second. "Mmm.. No," She joked then left the room. Dan could hear her giggling as she walked down the hallway.

--knock knock--

"Enter"

Nat opened the door and stuck her head in. "Hey Teal'c. We still meditating today?"

Teal'c patted the floor next to him. "Indeed. Although, our session may be cut short. Colonel O'Neill has informed me that we are scheduled to leave for the Tok'ra base in two hours," Teal'c explained as Nat sat down.

"That's okay. I just want a little time to clear my head," She explained as she sat into position.

"Are you having nightmares again, Natalie Manslow?"

"Yeah, a few. Last night I nearly knocked Daniel off the bed when I woke up!" Nat' eyes widened when she realised that she just told Teal'c that she's sleeping in the same bed as Dan at night. Teal'cs interests were peaked and he raised an eyebrown. Nat lifted her hands in a 'stop' guesture and waved them around. "Forget I said that! Let's just meditate!" Nat said, and then closed here eyes.

Teal'c nodded. "Block out everything but my voice," Teal'c began.

"Teal'c, do you believe in premonitions?" Nat interrupted, opening her eyes. Teal'c raised an eyebrow again.

"Why do you ask?"

"I had another dream last night. I dreamt that we were on a transport ship and that I was saying goodbye to Daniel. And I was crying and I didn't want to say goodbye to him! But what freaked me out more, was that when I woke up, I wasn't bothered by the dream, which is what bothers me!" Nat explained. Just then, before Teal'c had time to answer, there was a knock at the door.

"Enter."

Jack entered the room. He saw both Nat and Teal'c sitting on the floor, facing eachother. "Heya kiddos, I'm not disturbing your meditations or anything?" He asked.

"Indeed you are, O'Niell," Teal'c replied.

"Well, too bad," Jack joked back. "Change of plans, we're heading off in 20 minutes. Jacob's gonna have a transport ship ready for us sooner than we thought. Good news is that he's got it waiting for us at a planet that's close to Pwx-912, so we can gate to that planet, get our ship, and be at Pwx-912 quicker than the replicators. Carter sent the homing device to Pwx- 912 this morning, so we've gota get there before the replicators do! So come on, let's gear up!" Jack clapped his hands together. "Oh, and lieutenant, General Hammond said you can have that Goa'uld ribbon device, altough he doesn't know why you want to use it when it's inaffective against replicators," Jack explained.

Teal'c and Nat stood up. "Because, the ribbon device has a shield on it, and that does protect me from the replicators," She explained as they all started to head for the locker rooms.

"Well that's just dandy. But hopefully if the plan goes right, we wont even have to actually encounter any of those bugs," Jack explained.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

[July 2nd, 2003: Today sg1 and I head off to Pwx-912 to destroy the replicators. Thor's already gated to his home planet, where he's going to monitor our situation from his ship. When we get to Pwx-912, Sam's going to set up a bomb that will hopefully destroy that whole naquada-enriched planet. She's hoping that the blast will be big enough to destroy the whole fleet of replicators that are heading towards Pwx-912. This morning I thought I'd have another read of Professor Daniel's journals. I was pissed off because they have no mention of the me from this time in them. In those journals, I should be at least in my 50s, but im not there. In frustration I threw the journal across the room and the spine broke. When I picked up the book, a small note fell out of the journal. It was from future Daniel. He said that when things start to get really bad, that I'd know what to do. He made reference to Pwx-912 but didn't tell me what was going to happen. (which frustrates me even more!). I figure something bad's going to happen on this mission, so this might be my last chance to write in here. I just wanna say...

"Nat! What are you doing!?" Daniel asked form the doorway. Nat quickly turned from her journal to Daniel, who had an impatient look on his face. "You're not seriously writing in your journal now are you?" He asked. Nat gave a sheepish grin. "Well come on, Jack's waiting for us in the gate room!" Nat put her pen down and headed towards the door. Dan ushered Nat out of the room and they headed down the corridors to the gate room.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

[July 2nd, 2003: transport ship, heading for Pwx-912]

"Natalie Manslow, do you wish to continue our meditation session now?"

"Yeah, might as well. We've got 2 hours until we get to Pwx-912," Nat replied. Teal'c and Nat made their way to the cargo room and closed the door behind them. Sam, Jack and Daniel were left in the cockpit.

"Is Nat having nightmares again?" Sam asked Daniel.

Dan ran his hand through his hair. "Yeah, she told me she had a meditation session with Teal'c today. It helps her clear her head." He explained. Sam nodded, then she looked at her watch.

"I better go and contact Thor. He should have the ETA for the replicators by now," Sam explained then left for the cargo bay to get the communication device.

Jack and Daniel watched Sam leave the room. As soon as Sam was out of sight, Daniel whispered to Jack. "What did you say to Sam to make her seem normal again?"

"I don't know! Teal'c and I told her that Marty would want her to live her life, and not lock herself up in her lab," Jack whispered back.

"Well whatever you did, she seems to have changed very quikly," Dan whispered back, wathching out for Sam's return.

"You noticed that too huh?"

-------------------------------------------------

[1hr, 45 mins later]

Jack and Daniel were tossing a tennis ball across the room at each other while Teal'c monitored the ship while it was in hyperdrive.

"So, T," Jack called, still keeping his eyes on the ball. "Are we there yet?"

"We are not," Teal'c replied in his usual blunt tone. "We will be there in approximately ten minutes."

Jack huffed. "About time!"

Sam and Nat sat in the cargo bay of the transport ship, sitting around a naquada enhanced hudrogen bomb. Sam was making the necessary adjustments to it, and checking that was working properly. "So, we're going to go to the planet, see what the replicators' ETA is going to be, then adjust the timer accordingly right?" Nat asked. Sam looked up from the device to Nat, and then nodded. She noticed that Nat seemed to be inspecting the bomb. 'This could ruin my plans,' Sam thought to herself. "Are there bombs like this in your time Nat?" Sam asked innocently.

Nat looked up from the bomb. "No. They're similar but have more advanced functions." Nat replied. Suddenly, Nat had a look of realisation on her face, and Sam saw it just before Nat tried to hide it. She noticed that Nat seemed to be reaching for something, but she couldn't see what. "But in the future, the bombs we use aren't that much different from this one," Nat explained. Sam glared at Nat and quickly grabbed her gun. She pointed it to Nat, but Nat also had her right hand up, palm facing Sam. Sam noticed the ribbin device on Nat's hand. "I noticed that there's no timer.. and.. if you're trying what I think you're gonna try.." Nat mumbled as she looked at the bomb. She couldn't finish any sentence she tried to start because she couldn't believe what Sam was going to do. Sam's had begun to shake slightly.

"You had this planned all along!" Nat whispered to Sam.

Sam nodded. "Let me do it," She pleaded and her eyes began to water. "Please!"

Nat whispered, "I cant." She quickly leaped over the bomb towards Sam. Sam fired a shot, but it bounced off the shield from Nat's ribbon device. Nat jumped onto Sam, knocking her onto her back. Nat put one hand on Sam's shoulder to hold her down and with her other hand, she put the ribbon device to Sam's forehead.

"I'm sorry Sam," Nat whispered before using the device on Sam, knocking her unconscious.

Nat watched as the ribbon device let out golden streams onto Sam's forehead, knocking Sam unconscious. 'I'm Sorry,' she whispered. Sounds of footsteps could be heard coming into the cargo bay. Nat stood next to Sam's unconscious body as Jack, Daniel and Teal'c ran into the cargo bay.

"We heard gunfire!" Daniel explained. He saw Sam's body on the floor. "Did you shoot Sam?"

"No. But we've got a problem."
