Title: Sympathy For A Proud Soul

Summary: 'HMS Surprise' – Diana, concerned after Stephen's brush with mortality, visits him, and unknowingly shames him with a fatal kiss.

Note: Gah. I felt badly, because no one is writing any M&C stuff, so I wrote this. Anyways, I wrote Jack's view of Stephen at this point in time, and thought there was more to say on Diana's account.

The touch of soft lips against his own was tender, and seemed almost a quiet, timid thing. Stephen could not help but feel shamed – this was out of pity, out of sisterly affection, this gentle caress against his mouth, cracked and dry.

Her tears fell against his face – his chin, his cheeks, his lips themselves. The fever raged, and Diana left him to his own.
