Chapter Four – I'm Bored
Yoh forced himself up that morning. He was tired and he felt kind of sick. After all, he did run around in the rain yesterday. Still, he managed to get up and get ready for another day.
The first thing he did was calling his grandparents in Izumo. He asked them to bring the 'Super Secret Ultra Fragile Future Depending Embarrassing Thing', also known as 'That THING', to him. Then, he came out of the house and left to get SOMETHING to eat. He could have sworn that he heard his stomach say 'FOOD' while it was growling.
So, he went to a nearby café shop and ordered... bread and coffee. He had never drunk coffee before, and one reason was because Anna forbade him from doing so. However, he was still curious about how it tasted and what kind of effect it would have on him. From what he had heard from Horo Horo, it tasted great and it made you energized.
"I wonder HOW energized I would get..." Yoh pondered while waiting for his food. When the food did come, his mouth watered and he immediately grabbed the bread and shoved it in his mouth. Then, he excitedly extended his hand towards the coffee, only to have it snatched away and thrown into the garbage.
Surprised, he looked up to see Anna, frowning disapprovingly.
"I TOLD you not to drink coffee until you were 30. How many times did I throw out that stupid blue haired Ainu for talking to you about coffee?" she said, coldly. Yoh was still surprised, but soon, he smiled but said nothing.
"Mind to tell me what's so funny?" she asked, glaring.
"You're still the Anna I know," he said, simply. Anna's eyes narrowed further.
"No, I'm not."
"Then why are you caring for me? If you really had changed, you wouldn't even think twice about what I drank or ate," he said, still smiling. Something flickered in Anna's eyes but it was gone as soon as it came. She angrily but silently walked to the register and bought another coffee. She slammed it down on Yoh's table and left. Yoh sighed, paid, and left to the train station to wait for his father to bring 'That THING' to him.
Meanwhile, a smaller and weaker oni was watching the interaction between Yoh and Anna. Then, it headed towards the mountain where Anna's oni resided and reported what it had seen and heard.
"I see," the oni said, "Good job. You've served your purpose." Then, the oni ate the smaller oni.
"It seems like I'll be betrayed yet again by my mother. I could tell she still has something for him. I also felt a little bit of my power being released. I guess that was when her eyes changed for a split second. I'll play along for a while... I won't do anything harsh for now..."
Just then, Anna came to him. She looked rather mad yet thoughtful. Finally, she looked at the oni.
"I'm bored of him," she said with a voice filled with anger. The oni smirked.
"When?" it asked. Anna smirked along with it.
"Tonight. I'll lure him here," she said. Then she left.
That night, Yoh sat in his room, looking at 'That THING'.
"Soon... I'll ask her. Soon..." he mumbled. However, a knock on the door woke him up from his reverie. Slowly, he made his way to the door and opened it. No one was there. He looked down and saw a small piece of paper.
"Come to the mountain now," it read. Yoh's expression became serious as he stuffed both the letter and 'That THING' into his pocket and headed for Osorezan Mountain.
