Cold

Thomas was cold. Cold, alone and suffering from insomnia.

Midnight had passed what seemed like hours ago but he couldn't be sure, and after an hour or so of staring at his ceiling he'd dragged his warm quilt over to the window seat and curled up there so he could watch the twinkling night sky.

The guardian force had been awarded quite a lengthy vacation and the youngest Shubaltz had turned down offers of travelling with Moonbay, camping with Van and Fiona and even staying with his older brother Karl, just so he could spend his free time alone. Since joining the Guardian Force he had found himself constantly surrounded by people wanting him to spend time with them, something he was sure he would never get used to. Spending time without anyone else around to bother him was something he had begun to miss, however, after the second week of leave the blonde had grown weary of the dull silence in his uncle's holiday cottage.

He let out a light sigh.

"That's a terribly lonely sigh," someone declared in a tone that bordering on a purr, chuckling lightly as Thomas sat upright and shot an alarmed glance in the direction of the voice, his bed. "Then again, you are out here all by yourself, aren't you Thomas? You were, anyway."

"Who are you?!" the blonde snarled pushing himself up from the window "How did you get in here?!"

There was silence, then:

"You really should get better locks installed," followed by the sounds of movement and a fuzzy black shadow rising to their feet beside the bed. Thomas' eyes narrowed as he recognised the outline. "If someone came here to, say, kill you in your sleep they would have no trouble - aside from your being awake, of course."

Slow realisation crept on Thomas and he cursed the shaking in his voice as he spoke, "You're here to kill me, Raven?"

"Yes." the maverick smirked good-humouredly at the fear he could sense from the blonde, moving forward until he was in the light from the window and closer to Thomas "I was sent here to kill you," he said, watching the other mans reactions closely "but I don't think I will. It'd be a shame to kill something so..." he let his eyes slide down his victim appreciatively "pretty." The resulting blush on the blonde's cheeks was exactly what Raven had expected, and when he continued there was a tinge of amusement to his words "I have a proposition for you."
