Bowser POV:
I got up and looked at my phone, checking the time to see it was still rather early, if 8 AM is considered early anyway. I walked out of my room to prepare breakfast for the kids while slipping my phone into my pocket, hoping it would vibrate during breakfast time.
Knowing the kids were picky, and wanting more time for myself, I grabbed some cereal and bowls from the counter and made them bowls of cereal. I hollered for them and they grabbed their cereal and left back for their rooms, thankfully so as I needed to go check on the plants.
I walked over to the garden, making sure the automatic sprinklers had turned on by seeing if the soil was wet for certain plants. Then I manually watered and adjusted the lighting for more complicated plants. After all of that, I checked the time. It was nearing 10 and I still had no text from Mario. I traveled to the living room and sat on the couch.
*bzzt*
I checked my phone to see a text from Mario. It was the pic I had asked for the night before. I opened the text to see the plant doing wonderfully, Mario's hand gently caressing the petals to show them off in better detail.
'It looks amazing!' I texted him. The plant looked arguably better than when I gave it to him, and I felt myself sink happily into the couch.
'Thanks for letting me have it! I've enjoyed taking care of it.' That text from Mario made me shake my phone a little out of happiness before I eagerly sent a reply.
'Has it given you any trouble?'
'Not yet lol'
'How are things with you?'
'Decent. Not much has gone on here for a bit.'
'I get that, not much has happened here either.'
'Hold on a bit.'
'Okay.' I sat my phone down on my lap, looking every three seconds in hopes of getting another text.
I heard some noises in the distance as I checked my phone again, finally noticing the time was a little past eleven. Using my reasoning skills, I assumed the kids were just making lunch for themselves. I thought a bit on how fast they were growing. Bowser Jr. wasn't so much of a junior anymore. I breathed a little at the though as a vibration sent me to check my phone.
'Sorry about that.." I unlocked my phone to reply.
'All good! What happened?'
There wasn't a response for a while, leaving me worried until another text popped up on my phone.
'Basically Peach came by and told me there's a ball happening later this month here.'
'That sounds nice.' I already knew where this was going, but I decided to let Mario lead it there himself.
'Do you maybe wanna go with me?' I called it.
'If you're okay with it.'
'If you are.'
'I just want to make sure you're fine with it because I know you've been a little impatient and I want to make sure.' I knew for a fact my single-dad instincts were kicking in a little but I didn't care to much. Making sure he knew what he was getting into was more important to me.
'I am, I promise! Also I love you. 3'
The first half of his message comforted me and the second half warmed me. Receiving that message felt like a nice warm cocoa on a cold winter morning. 'I love you too!'
A/N: I know I said no more author notes but another half-year break calls for another one. I was going to re-write the whole fic because I couldn't really write the different POVs and wanted to use a more normal 3rd person perspective and also parts of this fic are four years old (wow) and are maybe not the best compared to what I can write now, but then I noticed that there were some important uses of POV switching in here so I just decided to continue it. Maybe you can tell I'm rushing to finish a little but I have more fluffy stuff planned before then and I might actually be able to complete this fic.
Also Bowser is a single dad in this I guess. Didn't really plan that, it just added more character. And sorry this is a shorter chapter, I just wanted to post something.
