Chores
So Bri set to it, she set to doing her chores, her daily tasks around the castle along side any podlings that just so happened to be doing the same thing. Some of them even greeted her happily, some were old, some were young, some were big, some were small.
Her first task of the day was to empty the chamber pots in each of the rooms. She could never really get over the smell. Sure she toughed it out but in all honesty that just made her empty them that much faster especially skeksayuk's, dear god. She loved walking into skekekts room though, she often admired the pretty fabrics and lavish projects skekekt had going on, also it helped that her room smelled of flowers, like a funeral home. Any messes she made in the room, usually wasn't a big one, she made sure to quickly clean it up usually with whatever apron she happened to be wearing that day. She had managed to coerce skekekt into making her some slightly prettier ones than what the podlings had. She had 3 green and 3 brown, 6 all together.
After she'd empty the chamber pots she'd go through and scrub them, that's when it would get disgusting. After getting a bucket of water from one of the podlings that was sent to fetch the water since this place didn't have running water, she'd pull out a bar of crudely made soap. Taking the soap and creating a nice lather on the stiff bristle scrub brush she often kept, she set to scrubbing the devil out of the chamber pots. What would make her gag is that at least fifty percent of the time she'd somehow find dried shit on the inner side of the chamber pots, not to mention she was handling what would have been called a biohazard. To make things worse there was almost no way for her to be able to wash her hands right off the bat like she most certainly wished. This job would take her quite a while, having to scrub the living daylights of the chamber pots inside and out and then having to go back and put them back in the rooms.
As she came out of each room she'd unmake the bed and put the sheets in a pile in the hallway. Although she snarled her nose at the pee stain skeksayuk left. Sometimes he'd get drunk. He'd get so drunk she'd catch him peeing on the castle walls, no amount of therapy is going to be able to erase the image of a giant fat bird man with three dicks. Nonetheless, he was a lord and that title demanded respect, and respect it shall receive.
On occasion she'd turn around and find that one of the podling maids made off with the bedding to wash, most of the time though she would have to call one aside and have them take it to the laundry. Finally came skekteks room his room was the last. She always started from the most important to the least important. Every skeksis was important, sure, but there was an order. The most important was of course the emperor, then came the Chamberlain, after that she wasn't sure who came after. She knew one thing skektek was often picked on, so most likely he was the low man on the totem pole when comparing skeksis.
She began her descent to skekteks room however when she passed the balcony with the spyglass and she stopped. Surely Skektek wouldn't mind if she was a little later than usual when getting to his room.
She put her bucket and brush down and dried her hands on her apron as she walked over to the giant spyglass. She groaned a bit when she brought it down to her level. The skeksis she guessed were at least 7 ft tall while she was only 5ft 5.
Once down, she peered through the spyglass and her eyes began to explore thra. In the distance she saw a giant dome-like structure half hidden by plants and cliffs. She switched to an area closer to the castle. There she saw the carriage returning from someplace and spotted skekting and skekok in it, she wondered where he had been all day. At another area close to the castle she saw two podlings fighting over something, she giggled at their antics.
Meanwhile she didn't hear the signature "hmmmmm?hmmmmm." Of a certain whimper from a certain someone. "What not-gelfling doing peeping through spyglass?" Chamberlain asked suddenly behind her.
"BAH!" She said nearly jumping out of her skin and wiping around in a panic onky calming down once she saw that it was just skeksil. "Oh its just you lord Chamberlain." She said with relief, "Sorry, I just got curious is all. This world is beautiful. It'd be a shame if I didn't get to see it." She said.
"Suppose so. Suppose not-gelfling get into trouble in thra? What do then?" He asked.
" well, I'd figure it out. But surely i wouldn't find myself in trouble." She said resting on one hip and smirking a bit.
"Very well, but Suppose not-gelfling get in trouble with emperor for breaking rule?" He asked.
" well I guess I'd have to take it then won't i." She said.
"Things out there hurt not-gelfling. Not-gelfling not safe out there. Not-gelfling place here, until not-gelfling find way home." He said sounding almost like an over protective father.
"I can watch for myself. I'm a completely capable adult!" She said which she was, at least fifty percent of the time.
"Adult not-gelfling act like childling, much of the time. Not act like adult." He said coming up to the edge of the balcony and putting his hands on the rail and looking out.
"Oh like you haven't ever done anything immature in your life." She said coming up beside him and looking at him with a slight smile. However that quickly faded when she heard him sneer a bit.
"Chamberlain never act immature as much. Chamberlain wouldn't be made Chamberlain if did as pleased." He said.
"Well, that's you, not me." She said.
"Chamberlain suggests not-gelfling childling get back to task at hand, before emperor find out. Emperor not in best mood today." He said before turning and walking back inside.
She just rolled her eyes and went back to the spy glass to take one more peek. How ever when she did she spotted some strange creatures. They looked like elves but, not elves, the ears weren't the right shape. She pulled back from the spyglass and tried to think of what they could be, but couldn't think of a thing.
She picked up her bucket and brush and got back to work on her daily tasks. She'd have to figure out what those creatures were. Though to do that she'd have to ask around, which she didn't feel like doing right off the bat. She supposed she could sneak into skekoks room and take a peek to see if there were any books, but he kept his library locked. She could try asking, but the last time she did that the emperor forbade her from even going outside of the castle.
She wondered why they were so uptight on her safety, if that was even the case. Perhaps they were keeping something from her. For some odd reason she had a feeling that's what it was. Why tell her to not do something and then not explain why? Seemed fishy to her.
But that couldn't matter right now, all she knew was she needed to make plans, plan escape routes, when to attempt at escaping, along with packing amenities. She also had to learn the garthim guard schedules, and that could take weeks, and she'd most likely need help. She thought about all this while vigorously scrubbing the devil out of skekteks chamber pot and then moving to head outside to do her outdoor daily tasks.
