The sound of something crashing downstairs woke Hermione from her deep sleep, blinking a few times she jumped from the bed and reached for her wand on the nightstand. Heart pounding, she made her way out the door. Quickly casting Lumos, Hermione slowly made her way down the hallway. The Malfoy family portraits began protesting as she walked by, clearly not happy that she had woken them up.

"Will you shut that off you Mudblood?"

She instantly recognized the voice it was the one with that Lucius had exchanged words. Ignoring him Hermione continued making her way downstairs to investigate the noise that had woken her.

Turning a corner she made it to the top of the stairs. Her heart pounded in her chest and she could feel the cold tile under her feet. Hermione held her breath as she desperately tried to not make a sound. She wondered where Lucius was and if he was okay. The thought of him being injured made her worry she didn't know if she could raise a kid by herself at least he had experience in child rearing she had none.

Taking one final breath Hermione pushed open the door to the dining room to find a table turned over with broken glass shattered over the hardwood floor and liquid spilled everywhere. Stepping further into the room Hermione noted the smell of liquor in the air. Shining the light around the dark room she saw a figure sitting at the dining table coming closer Lucius' face came into view his eyes were bloodshot and he was looking down at his drink. Clearing her throat, it didn't look like he knew she was there. He continued to stare off into his drink.

"Lucius, can you hear me?" Sitting down in the seat beside him Hermione lowered her wand.

"Why am I here?" He whispered his voice so soft Hermione wasn't sure she heard him correctly.

"What?"

Looking at her for the first time she could see he had been crying as his eyes were red and his face was wet.

Sniffling he repeated his question as his brows furrowed with his mouth pulled tight.

"Why am I here?" He repeated.

Hermione slowly reached out with her hand and placed it over the drink slowly removing it from his grasp he offered little resistance as she moved it to the other side of her.

"Lucius I'm not sure what to say I'm sorry." She could offer only comfort to him as he seemed to look right through her. Slowly standing Hermione stood beside him and wrapped her arms around his shoulders the smell of alcohol was strong, the potent smell had her holding her breath.

"Maybe we should get you up to bed."

The sound of her voice seemed to catch his attention as his grey unfocused eyes seemed to focus on her. Shaking his head, he pushed her arm from around him.

"No, I don't need to go to bed I…" Lucius' eyes widened, and he tried to get up but stumbled and fell back Hermione instinctively caught him by his arm and steadied him. He nodded and once he was steady, she let go but stood by him just in case he needed her. Taking slow steps Lucius made his way back to the spot where Draco and Narcissa had died. Falling to his knees he pulled at his hair and let out a scream of anguish that chilled Hermione down to her bones.

"Lucius please talk to me." She hated seeing him like this. The emotion he showed pulled at her heart and made her wish more than anything to make his pain go away, but she didn't know how or what to do for him.

Swinging his head around his grey eyes met her brown ones and she couldn't describe what she saw; it was like a mixture of grief and worry. Lucius quickly stood and staggered towards her falling she couldn't help but wince when his body hit the floor. Hermione moved to check and make sure he hadn't hurt himself but to her surprise, he quickly recovered and steadied his footing Lucius swayed a little forward grabbing her by the shoulders and shaking her while leaning in close his breath was hot, and burned her face with the stench of booze.

"I don't know what happened, but I know it has something to do with him, I just need to prove it."

Worried for him Hermione placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder and investigated his wild frantic gaze. Before she could offer any calming words Lucius swiftly moved her to the side and began attempting to walk away but he swayed left and right no doubt from the alcohol he had been consuming all day. She watched as he made it out the door and to the kitchen. Following close behind Hermione could only observe as Lucius ran into the small table cursing out loud and made his way to the back door of the manor.

Stepping outside Hermione trailed behind him. The yard was massive with trees and bushes scattered around. Treading through the overgrown grass Lucius was determined to get wherever it was he wanted to go.

"Lucius, where are you going? It's the middle of the night?" Hermione could feel her stomach twist in knots and hoped he wasn't having a mental breakdown or anything of the sort.

Ignoring her he continued forward his boots leveling grass and making a pathway through the yard. Hermione knew one thing: if she could get the master of the house back inside and get him some sleep and get some more rest herself, she was going to cut this grass herself.

Lucius stumbled through the yard but that didn't seem to faze him as he just kept going and refused to acknowledge her presence. She debated about just going back inside and letting him figure it out for himself, but Hermione knew she couldn't do that if something happened to him, she would never forgive herself.

He suddenly stopped and she kept her distance only observing him. He shook his head and turned right and lost his balance falling with a thud. Hurrying towards him Hermione saw that he had fallen right in front of a marble headstone. Lucius sat up on his knees and glared at the stone. She read the name on the stone "Abraxas Malfoy Born: July 1st, 1918 Died December 29th, 1989.

"It's all your fault if you hadn't brought him around maybe I wouldn't have lost everything. Why did you do it?" Lucius yelled at the stone but there was no answer. Hermione wasn't sure what to do. The whole thing was not something she encountered before.

Becoming angry by the silence Lucius picked up a rock and threw it at the headstone but it just bounced off infuriating him more. Standing up he marched forward and gave the stone a swift kick causing him to holler in pain and limp back toward where a stunned Hermione stood.

"Lucius please stop before you hurt yourself worse than you already have."

His brow furrowed as his gaze met hers. "Where did you come from?"

Shaking her head Hermione opened her mouth to speak but quickly closed it she didn't know what to say to that. Clearly, the Fire Whiskey he had consumed was messing with his mind.

Clearing his throat Lucius said. "I think we should get some sleep." The whole scene seemed bizarre to her but she didn't say anything and followed him inside.
