Ch. 18: A Little Drop of Poison
"As they say, if you want something done right..."
"There's another saying that goes, if at first you don't succeed, keep on sucking until you do succeed. Too bad you're stuck in a rut."
"If I wasn't so keen on maintaining this as an honorable duel, I'd strangle you, Potter."
"You just forced me to duel the animated corpse of my friend, but now you want to make it honorable? Just hurry up and duel me. These people would like to go home."
Voldemort looked angry, but this time said nothing. He then activated his ring.

"As your senior student -"
"Very senior."
"- I shall go first. I activate my field spell, Venom Swamp."
Instead of a Duel Disk, Voldemort was using his dark magic to make the cards float in midair beside himself. Several twisted trees sprouted on the field, and the entire ground became covered with poisonous sludge. Harry could even see a few bones sticking out of the muck.
"I play Pot of Greed, and then I set three cards, set a monster, and play the spell Snake Rain. I discard one card to send four Reptile monsters from my deck to the graveyard. I end my turn."
"I discard a card to special summon Apprentice Illusion Magician."

A tanned girl with long white hair appeared. She wore purple clothes and held a small staff in her right hand.
"When she's normal or special summoned, I can add one Black Magician from my deck to my hand. I set a monster, and now my Apprentice attacks your face-down monster."
She sent a blast of magic, and a large beige cobra with a red belly spread its hood and hissed.

A small snake made of venom shot out of the swamp and bit into the magician.

"I play the spell Pot of Greed and Wealth. I banish six cards face-down from my extra deck to draw two cards. I summon Venom Serpent."

Although it was named after the black mamba, this snake looked more like a large, black cobra with a horn on its head.
"I activate the effect of my serpent. I place a Venom Counter on your monster."

"I activate my trap, Magician's Navigate. I special summon Black Magician from my hand, and then I special summon another Black Magician from my deck."

The first version of the famous mage wore dark blue robes with silvery edging. His hair was white. The second wore purple robes and had dark hair.
"How impressive, but my attack still goes through."
The snake struck the magician girl.

"Now my serpent will attack your face-down monster, but first I activate my trap Damage = Reptile."
The two-headed snake struck the opposing monster and was sent flying backwards.

"I activate another trap, Offering of Poisonous Snakes. I target one face-up Reptile monster I control and two cards you control; all three are destroyed. I'll use this one your Circle and one of your Magicians. Nice try though."
The three cards were consumed by flames.
"I activate my final trap, Descent of the Snake God. When a face-up Venominon I control is destroyed, except by battle, I special summon from my deck one Poisonous Snake God Venominaga!"

This monster was a snake person just like Venominon, but was larger and female. Her hair was made of snakes, and her arms were two large snakes.
"I play this Quick-Play Spell, Order to Charge. I tribute a normal monster to destroy one of your monsters. I tribute my Venom Cobra to destroy your other Black Magician."
The cobra leapt into the face of the mage, and then they both exploded.
"Like her predecessor, Venominaga gains 500 attack for each Reptile in my graveyard."

"Attack his Black Magician!"
The snake woman sent one of her giant snake-headed arms at the mage, its massive jaws crushing him.

"When my beautiful Snake God deals damage to you, she gains one Hyper-Venom Counter. Once she gains three, I automatically win the duel."
"Yeah, okay, are you done?"
"I end my -"
"Hold that thought. I activate the effect of Magician's Robe. I discard one Spell/Trap to special summon one Black Magician from my deck."
This version on the mage wore blue robes with red edging. His hair was blonde.
"You and that pesky monster. I end my turn."

"Pot of Greed, and then I play the spell Magicalize Fusion. I fuse two monsters in my graveyard, Black Magician and The Legendary Swordfighter Chaos Soldier, to Fusion summon Super Magical Warrior - Master of Chaos!"

This monster looked like Black Magician was wearing the armor of Chaos Soldier except with a cape. He wielded a sword and shield.
"When this monster is Fusion summoned, I can target one Light or Dark monster in my graveyard and special summon it. I choose my Black Magician."
Master of Chaos raised his sword, and there was a flash of light. The famous mage reappeared next to him.
"I'll play this spell, The Eye of Timaeus. I target one Black Magician monster I control, and then I can Fusion summon one Fusion monster from the extra deck that uses it as material. I Fusion summon this monster: Super Magical Knight - Black Cavalry!"

This new monster looked like the Black Magician was riding atop a huge horse. The same horse Gaia was usually riding. Instead of a staff, he wielded a pair of lances.
"Neither of those monsters can match my Snake God."
"Well then it's a good thing I remembered to put this on my deck - Soul Release!"
Voldemort's eye twitched, "What?"
"I target five cards in and graveyard and banish them. I'm removing five Reptiles from your graveyard, which means Venominaga loses 2500 attack."
The huge naga writhed in pain as her power was drained.

"By the way, Black Cavalry gains 100 attack for every Spell/Trap on the field and in both our graveyards."

"Oh, and I also tribute Magician's Robes to summon Black Magician Girl."

A swarm of hearts appeared to herald the arrival of the equally famous counterpart to the Black Magician. Clad in her pink and blue robes, the blonde mage gave a smile and a wink.
"She gains 300 attack for every Black Magician or Magician of Black Chaos in the graveyards."

"Black Magician Girl, attack his Black Mamba. Black Burning!"
She sent a blast of magic from her staff at the snake.

A blast of magic destroyed the two-headed snake.

The mighty horse leapt over to the rattlesnake, and then the knight stabbed the snake with his lance.

"Very foolish of you to empower my Snake God."
"Not really. I just wanted it to sting even more once I win. Master of Chaos, attack his Venominaga and finish this!. Black Magic Chaos Blade!"
The warrior jumped high into the air and brought his sword down straight through the heart of the great reptile.

Bellatrix, Peter, and Crouch Junior looked shocked.
Voldemort looked psychotic, "I'll kill you. I'LL KILL YOU!"
Dumbledore immediately stepped between Voldemort and Harry.
"Out of my way, old man!"
"I think it's time for you to leave, Tom."
"Master," Peter said, "He's right. You've overexerted your power, you're not at full strength, and we only have a handful of your followers with us. More authorities are showing up. If we don't leave now, we'll be outnumbered."
"You must live to fight another day, My Lord," Bellatrix said.
Voldemort was breathing heavily. He had to admit, he had overtaxed himself using so much shadow magic.
"Next time you won't be so lucky, Potter. Let's get out of here."
"I will stay, my master," Barty said, "I still have the detonator. I will finish off Potter in your stead."
Voldemort snickered, "It's always nice to have such loyalty. Make him suffer, my servant."
Voldemort's smirk immediately changed back to an angry frown as he stormed off, with Bellatrix and Peter following close behind, and the Seniors Crabbe and Goyle behind them. No sooner had Voldemort disappeared into his self-made fog, it began to fade away.
Meanwhile, on the side of the stadium farthest from the main entrance, Ludo Bagman was talking to another man.
"Looks like you lost more money, Ludo."
"What?! I bet that Harry Potter would win, and he did."
"You think after all this anyone is going to honor your bet? Besides, betting on a duel with high schoolers is pretty low."
"That's rich coming from you."
"You also made bets on that tournament from last summer, and they didn't pan out. You can't get away this time."
"So that's why you didn't give us our share," Fred said.
"You always took risky plays, Ludo," George added.
"You brats shouldn't be gambling anyway."
"And yet you took our bet," Fred pointed out.
"I doubt the authorities would like this," George said.
The other man now looked nervous, "You big mouth, now they'll get the police involved."
"It's my word against theirs, and I'm famous. Who are they going to believe?"
"Oh, I have a feeling they'll believe someone who works for the government," Arthur said, coming from around the corner.
"Especially when we give them this tape," the twins added, showing Ludo that they were recording the conversation.
The mystery man face palmed, while Ludo just looked broken.
Back on the playing field, Barty was making an announcement.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I still have the detonator, so I suggest you stay in your seats. We still have a score to settle between us, Potter."
Harry looked ready to scream, but maintained his composure and said, "Yeah, I guess we do."
Dumbledore placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder.
"I know you're tired, Harry."
"That doesn't matter. I wouldn't want anyone else to go through this."
Harry then took a deep breath, stood up straight, and said, "Let's duel."
